All the Little Things Meme | accepting!!! 💢 - Something other’s do that gets on their nerves?: When other’s disrespect the constabulary or his superiors. Hobbs has always been protective of those he works for, even if they don’t need or want his protection, he still looks after them even when they don’t know he’s doing it (like putting a blanket over Jackson when he finds him asleep in the dead room). He knows the public might not always trust the police to do their job (especially given that the Ripper was never caught), but he doesn’t like hearing it sung about, or gossiped about, the police can only do so much. 👶 - As a kid, what were they like?: Hobbs had a short lived childhood, but he was well-behaved, quiet, and observant. Often times he’d find himself going on walks with his dad and the family dog, Rabbit, rather than playing with his older siblings (though he loved them fiercely). It wasn’t until his youngest brother was born (and his mother passed away hours after) that he quickly began to have to grow up and look after the baby while his dad went off to work (and his older siblings eventually left the house).

Headcanon 15 ~

Walking his beat one day, Hobbs discovered a small kitten alone and shivering in the snow. Quickly scooping the feline up and bundling her in his coat to keep warm, he took her to the nearest pub and paid for a bowl of milk for her to eat. 

It wasn’t easy to take her back to the station and hide her from Reid and the others, but fortunate for him, Artherton had heard the tiny cries coming from his coat and decided to help Hobbs keep her secret until his shift was over and he could take her home. 

And this is how Hobbs got his house cat, Boots (Artherton put her in his boots behind the front desk because she was small enough to hide in there).

Headcanon 14 ~

Hobbs eventually has two children with his wife. His first born is a girl, and his second is a boy.

muse headcanons! | accepting!!!☠: my muse’s biggest fear:His biggest fear is anything happening to those he cares about; he’s lost both his father, and younger brother, and never wants to go through that again. However this also connects to his fear of failure. Failing his loved ones and friends, failing those he helps through his job with the police. It’s very hard to learn that you cant save everyone, but he tries, and hopes never to fail.

Headcanon 13 ~

After his first experience assisting Jackson in the Dead Room, Hobbs started volunteering to help in their more often. Partly so he could overcome his fear and discomfort around bodily fluids, the deceased, and autopsy themselves, but mostly so he could grow and learn as a constable. 

This is why he’s tested in A Man Of My Company by Jackson, and why he stands so proudly after he answers correctly.

Headcanon 12 ~

Hobbs is very aware how dangerous his job is, and that going into work could mean he doesn’t come home. So every morning before he goes to the station he kisses his wife like it’s the last time he’ll ever see her again, cradling her face in his hands and memorizing everything he can about her (how she looks that day, what she smells like, her smile, her eyes, her dimples, her freckles etc).

She was the last thought he had before he died.

Headcanon 11 ~

When his father was murdered Richard (who was only ten years old at the time) and his younger brother Jack were the only ones home at the time (both his older siblings were out). So when a constable came round to inform him of what had happened, he had to drag his younger brother down to the station to identify and confirm that it was his father. This was his first experience being in a police station, surrounded by constables who were going about their work. One officer, a Constable Price, had offered to sit with his brother while Richard went to view the body in the morgue. The station house was small, and the dead room even smaller. Three bodies were on the floor, almost laying on top of each other, one was even being worked on as Hobbs entered the cold rancid smelling room. Seeing the body exposed and open in such a way left a scarring memory on the young boy, especially knowing it would soon be his father’s turn (if he hadn’t been seen to already). It took only one glance for him to confirm it was father, and as he left the room he was quietly informed of what had befallen him. Murdered. The motive unclear, the killer not yet caught. There were too many questions, and not enough answers, and as an officer escorted him and his brother home in a carriage, Hobbs vowed to one day work for the police and bring his father’s murderer to justice.

Hobbs once got in a food fight with his younger brother. It started by accident, an innocent flick of the spoon and porridge ended up splattered on his face. Instead of reprehending him, he retaliated and scooped out some of his own breakfast tossing it back at his youngest sibling. They were lucky no one was home, otherwise they’d both be in trouble for wasting what food they had. However hearing his brothers laughter, which was sometimes a rarity, made it all worth it in the end.

Headcanon 8 ~ 

Robert Hobbs was a wise man, who instilled his four children with many life lessons. The most prominent one that Richard took away, and applied it to his life, and work with the constabulary was: “With darkness comes light. There will be bad days that come, but good will fall upon you once more. Never give up that you will find happiness through the sadness.” And Richard sees this. He sees it in the work he does, in the people they save, such as Lucy, who through the torment, struggles, and death, has finally found peace with her children. Knowing you cant save everyone makes the job hardest of all, but it’s those that you can help that makes it most worth it. That is the kind of Detective (and one day father) he wishes to become.
