Stannis’s true make Headcanon
“Robert was the true steel. Stannis is pure iron, black and hard and strong, yes, but brittle, the way iron gets. He'll break before he bends. And Renly, that one, he's copper, bright and shiny, pretty to look at but not worth all that much at the end of the day.“ - Donal Noye, A Clash of Kings, Jon I
Donal Noye is wrong in his description of Stannis. Stannis is more like Valyrian Steel, he always has an edge to him where iron can dull or rust. Like iron Valyrian Steel does not bend, mere men cannot change how it is shaped.

Stannis and Dragonstone
Is Stannis bitter about Robert taking Storm’s End away from him? Yes. Want to know what makes him the most pissed off? It was taken from him and given to a seven year old. Renly was SEVEN when Robert gave him Storm’s End. Robert took their ancestral home away from 20 year old Stannis, who had held it under siege for a whole year, and gave it to 7 year old Renly.
Robert then gave him a holding that was known to not give enough sustainable income for a fully established house. Dragonstone was the holdings of the Targaryen heirs because they would then not be wealthy enough to pay for someone to assassinate their royal parent. There is certainly a reason that Stannis is very bitter about Robert and makes a few mentions about how Robert did not love him, essentially.
