adore every new episode of demon slayer that comes out this season because i can be the same delusional i was for jjk where i can imagine, somewhere, at some point, izan is just hanging out around in the hot spring--- trying not to fall asleep and drown.

KIMETSU NO YAIBA VERSE. alternative universe that covers the kimetsu no yaiba/demon slayer manga and anime series.
Still more pacifists would argue that a nonviolent reaction may not save lives immediately but would in the long run. The acceptance of violence for any reason makes it easier to use in other situations. // The unendurable oppression of the lungs -- the stifling fumes from the damp earth -- the clinging to the death garments -- the rigid embrace of the narrow house -- the blackness of the absolute Night --
the year is 1908 and a treaty is signed as the taisho era approaches the horizon. izan soche is but a young child as they are drifted across the sea in the arms of their mother and into the coal mines of hokkaido.
the family does not last.
buried in the collapsed mines, izan's mother and father die before their eleventh birthday-- and the only solution they have is to simply continue working. so they do; despite it all. tirelessly, endlessly, morning to night, days to weeks, blackened lungs and fingers and mockery from children in the village for their irregularity. they do not mind. it is survival; and that is what matters.
when they are sixteen, they too meet the fate of their parent's-- buried alive, prematurely pronounced deceased. when they dig themselves out, lungs burning, breathing but ashen; a man visits them in their home and asks them how it is they have survived. their only answer is that they refused.
izan could never truly become a proper demon slayer. their endless endurance and physical durability held a promise beyond measure-- but refusal was their vice. death delivered by their blade was sloppy; hesitant. ( death to death begets death. so they ran, or endured, or waited. the sun, the flowers. ) but it showed advantage for the living, for the human dead, so they were assigned as kakushi. a talent for handling the deceased and returning to next of kin a particular of the odd kakushi.
at twenty-seven, izan is particularly well-known among the villages of japan. a wayfarer in black cloth with the particular smell of wisteria always following wherever he goes. says it keeps certain company at bay; and for others, that it keeps others at peace. where the dead go, so too does izan follow, human and demon-- with a polished hand and clenched fist, withholding the urge to burst.
tldr; izan, once a child of indigenous migrants to japan from colombia, is pulled into the demon slayer corps after surviving a cave-in that similarly killed their parents years prior. unable to advance further as a slayer, they become a kakushi; having a particular talent for caring for the dead. wearing black garbs that have been treated with wisteria oil, they provide their services as a traveling nomad under the corps direction.

" --- because it is my preference. " and so it shall be.

izan cannot speak on the legitimacy of his title. they can assume, as many most likely should, that it is a self-made title; child that he is, boorish and naïve. ( but not so young that he cannot be made a soldier for the people. regrettable, they think, but habitual in this line of work. )
they gain a small peek at his features when the mask has been pushed back, but it's just enough to see his reaction. a pleasant one, worthy of reward. " take another. " this time, held in the center of their palm, the candy presented as something the boy would have to reach for. melon flavored-- and just as bright and green as one would expect. " a big meal would be in order after the task of demon slaying, i believe. don't you think, o' king of the mountain ? " how amusing. ( they might just like the title after all. )
