              the grandmas next door had been gushing about the rumours of a certain world-class superstar returning to his roots for weeks now. anthony knew, despite promising himself not to check in on cassius anymore. it was pretty hard to ignore even after he’d deleted his burner account, considering half of the fucking country was obsessed with him. anthony had steeled himself for the worst, but when the unanswered questions and bittersweet memories that tormented him for the past few years came back in the form of cassius himself walking inside the bakery, anthony’s mind went blank in an instant. he didn’t think he’d meet him again this fast. “so. you’re really back.” anthony says. he can’t move his legs at all, as if the floor was a magnet and his feet were made of iron. seeing him, in the flesh and not through a grainy screen for once... it’s bizarre. “i’ve—i’ve heard. the neighbours wouldn’t stop talking about it.”
