Romani Khalid | 45 | Wellness Coach ( Zoe Saldana. ) Karma Khalid | 29 | Barista ( Jaylen Barron. ) Kaya Khalid | 27 | Actress-Singer ( Jamilla Strand. ) Korey Khalid | 22 | College Student ( Nico Parker. )
Romani Khalid was being let down by men for long before it was in a romantic sense. A shitty dad that left her and her mom with nothing to fend for themselves. An even shittier teacher at school that wrote her off because she turned down his advances, a shitty first boss that took half her wage when she got a job busting tables to help out at home.
It was really no surprise to her when Bennett turned out to be a dead beat when he got her pregnant at 16 and ran for the hills to avoid having to pay any child support. It was really no surprise to her when Alex turned out to be the same type of man leaving her with two babies under three, with no real way to look after herself and her girls at 18 but it as one man too many and Romani finally felt herself snap, moving herself and her girls to live with her aunt in LA.
The move was only supposed to be temporary until she received the news her mom had died whilst she was gone and Romani felt there was nothing for her to return to. When the first photographer approached her about using Karma and Kaya in a photoshoot for a kids line she nearly wept with the pay check she was offered but she vowed she wouldn't use her girls that way again - until the money ran out. Karma hated it, always refusing to play ball with her mom but Kaya was a natural and was always ready to help out.
Kaya's first TV role was what secured their future in LA though and from then on Romani knew she would never need a man again, she had raised her girls and they could take care of her in return, though she could never bring herself to tell the girls about either of their dads. It seemed history was deemed to repeat itself again though when Korey game along and Romani was left with three girls and not a baby daddy in sight.
Their mothers example has done nothing to prove to the girls that real love exists or that they can really ever trust a man in their lives. They stick together as a close unit but there are times the girls wonder if Romani would have stuck out with them as long as she has if they didn't earn her a paycheck and they find her new line of work as a wellness coach the most ironic part of their whole lives.
