Anya: "Hey! I was just at the part where he invented the internet." Buffy: "Anya, he fights better than I do. And I'm the slayer." [Points to self] "The Slayer! That's supposed to mean something, right?" Anya: "Oh! Buck up, you." [She punches Buffy in the arm very softly.] "You kill the best." [She makes rah rah gestures.] "Go you. Kill, kill." Buffy: "Actually not needing validation right now, but thank you."

she had, admittedly, been a shaking mess when she’d made the phone call or she probably wouldn’t have made it in the first place, near hysterical as she babbled down the line into thumper’s voicemail. she couldn’t call the other boys, no, she had to be strong for them, but thumper? thumper didn’t need her to be strong for him, didn’t even want it, and her fingers had connected the call before she could think twice.

the group had split a few days earlier, the boys going off to make headway on their next case and jordan staying behind to clean up a few loose ends. it should have been easy, they’d already done all the footwork, but apparently they hadn’t done enough research on this thing because the second she had been about to deliver the killing blow, this thing started pulling every nightmare out of her head and making her relive it all in technicolor. It had been so fast that for a few moments, she hadn’t been able to comprehend that it wasn’t real, which is what earned her the nasty, purple gash taking up most of the right side of her temple, before she’d finally fought through and killed the thing.

now hours later, she’s finally stopped shaking after scrubbing herself absolutely red raw in the shower and she was trying to settle down for sleep that she knew would never come when she hears the knock on the door and cautiously creeps forward to look through the peephole, letting out a sharp exhale when she sees who’s on the other side before she throws the door open. She thinks about questioning what he’s doing there when the best she had hoped for was that he would simply delete the voicemail and at least not bring it up to her, she thinks about chastising him for leaving Rowan and Colt on their own, she thinks about a thousand things.
