maybe! i had the idea though that they were in the same year - i see moss being autistic as practically canon, and i was thinking that maybe he tried uni as soon as he could, but various factors (large changes to routine, social isolation from living away from home, etc) made him drop out and have to try again later in life

(its something im certain ive seen in college, and its something im worried about for myself in regards to uni, because i love putting my own struggles into my writing LOL)

as someone who started attending college at 15 ive always found the factors behind why someone might attend further/higher education at an age older than expected pretty interesting, and its something i wanna explore in writing :3

currently trying to do research into the it crowds timeline without rewatching the show and trying to spot any little detail i can, how accurate is the fandom wiki? rambles under cut

the main details im looking for are when the show is set + roys age, which afaik neither can be directly proved? it says that s1 is set in late 2005 despite airing in 2006, though i looked around the channel 4 website on the wayback machine and i saw a comment claiming that the writer had said filming for s4 would start in march 2010 - that series started airing june of that year so if we assume that filming times were the same then we can assume that filming for s1 was around november 2005 if that series aired in february 2006, maybe thats where they get that number from?

it also states that roy was born in the same year as his actor, chris o'dowd, in 1979. while this can be a reasonable assumption considering in s4 its mentioned that hes in his early 30s, and assuming that this is in 2010 then that would make him 31, it also states that moss was born in 1977 - the same year as his actor, richard ayoade - but this is untrue according to the wikis own timeline. moss states himself in s1e3 that he is 32, but if he were born in 1977 and if the year that this was set was 2005 then he would have been 28. So Like. does he have a canon age or what

(but also, this was spurred on by thinking abt my roy-and-moss-meet-at-uni fic i wanna write and, while i dont hc them as getting together until MUCH later, i still dont wanna accidentally make their age gap too big at this point - i was already worrying about a 4-year age gap of 18 and 22 (assuming that s1 is set in 2006, moss is born in 1974 and roy is 32 in s4 (headcanon pre-wiki check), thus being born in 1978 - i was imagining that roy would go to uni as soon as he could i.e. when he turned 18 in 1996), let alone a 6-year age gap of 18 and 24 - they may have been in the same stages of life considering theyre both starting uni but still, that doesnt sound exactly right 😭)
