— ing / headcanon, aesthetic & playlist
summary / —ing is minjung’s second full-length album, and each song is a standalone to the entire story she tells of being at one place at each time. there’s an underlying cohesiveness to the whole as when the album’s listened to from start to finish (excluding the bonus tracks), there’s a certain wistfulness in the aftertaste akin to the feelings of currently going through something. (each photo in the aesthetic represents a specific song on the album) — hc to elaborate on each song playlist summary / during this process, each song was either a hit or miss in terms of the creation process. the majority of the album was created or partially created by someone she specifically sought out — no issues on their part. the lyrics were her own task, and she’d find herself either in moments where she’d be able to write the entire song, or she’d find pieces of writer’s block. in those times, it was the emotional hold on thinking about the event or person the song pertained to that prevented her from writing. in return, she would find inspiration by dozing off or getting distracted by listening to songs that she found lied similarly to the general ‘mood’ of the song she wanted to convey. warnings / none wc / 1193

lilac & lullaby
i’m grouping these together because the melody and arrangement is credited to ash. minjung basically asked ash to create two songs, no guidelines — go free, run with it. in result, she got these two songs
lilac ended up being the title song, and she thinks it’s because it’s the most lively out of all the songs on there? there’s something you can build out of it on stage whereas the other songs aside from coin don’t really have that special sparkle that gold star wants
she enjoys the city pop vibes of lilac, especially because city pop is a genre she hasn’t touched upon and is one of her favorites. she listens to a lot of city pop, so when she was presented with the song — it was a done deal that the beat was something she could write something to
i’m not going over meanings of songs since i did the whole verifications, so if ur curious go read those
lullaby is a slower paced song, contrasted to lilac. and she likes this one because it almost bounces from her last album’s title track, through the night. except, it’s more subtle and almost more soft spoken? the emphasis with this song is the simple piano chords that compose the backtrack, and she thinks it’s pretty — almost like background noise to where someone wants to have her own inner monologue?
all in all, happy with what she asked for — 10/10
ah-puh
this is a song she asked an npc idol friend to create, and she got something more fun? like light beat on your toes type vibes.
as a result, she got to experiment more with the lyrics and the execution of how the lyrics were sung.
i hc that this is a song her fans are more hit or miss on, considering it’s not really that catchy, but good enough to put on background as you wash your dishes or something
this is one of her favorite songs on the album
coin
coin was a co-collaboration between minjung & her npc friend, who is a producer for smaller company idol groups.
this song was more edgy, and she liked that there was a point where she could put a rap albeit the rap wasn’t out of the world execution, but it’s fun
the real charm of this song was the mv. the mv was minjung’s vision to life, and more than she could’ve asked for from gold star. it had pieces of whimsicality, fun liveliness — basically alice in wonderland for gamblers, and she loves this song a LOT
but she also likes that for once she gets to wear a pant suit when she sings this as the second staged song. never had she ever been styled like that, so when she got the opportunity — pant suits were a new found invention to her
above the time
this song was created by joosung, and minjung specifically asked joosung because she knows the potential / the creativeness that joosung holds. plus, he’s pretty much her work husband. so, when she asked for a song, she really got a masterpiece
she did not expect the bridge to transition like what sounded initially like a ballad song, so that made the writing process for the song that much more entertaining
it’s not your typical ballad, which ngl when she first heard she thought she got a ballad song. instead, there’s a bit of a surprise factor weaved through the song — which gave her another weird genre? if you can call it that, to work around. it made fitting words into the melody a bit difficult, but it was more like a challenge she embraced considering the song a+ 10/10
drama
drama was another song created by an npc alongside minjung
the fun part about this song was how light hearted it was. upon first listen, it literally sounds like one of those children songs that children sing in pre-school (ie: twinkle twinkle little star). and a lot of the time the songs she creates have a lot of layers / complexities to them aside from somber ballads, so it was refreshing to take part in a song so simple that it puts the listener at ease
flu
duri did the melody of this song, which minjung specifically asked considering he’s worked wonders in titan’s discography + his own works which have had catchy tunes that she’s caught herself humming one too many times
and that’s what she got when she got the melody to flu — it’s catchy, and the song’s very modern? in a way that when you listen back in twenty years, it won’t sound like a twenty year old song. instead, it molds into whatever generation it’s in.
10/10 song a+
blackout & hi spring bye
grouping these together because these are the only two songs that minjung wrote entirely by herself
with black out, it’s a lot of noise. there’a lot of clanks and clutters spread throughout the song, to where the lyrics pack a poignant punch when you listen. it’s the intention that she wants people to listen to, where there’s almost a sarcastic taste in the song — aka a i live my life and you do you
there’s literature references and it really becomes one of the songs in her discography she’s most proud of since it’s a really minjung song (idk how to describe it other than that)
hi spring bye is a different genre, it’s so soft? it is really reminiscent of retro — not in the city pop nutro concept etc. but in the sense that it almost sounds like it belongs in a 2005 drama ost, and that’s what she likes about it
because when she was younger, that’s what she grew up on. and the hi spring bye concept adds to that nostalgic touch that spring always brings forth whether she welcomes it or not
it’s a dreamy song (how i describe it)
unlucky
unlucky has a heavy piano rift as with the majority of her songs
there’s almost a theatre feel to it — like she’s tap dancing on stage, and it’s a song that she envious herself to busking on the steps or like she’s singing to trees as she’s walking down a line of cherry blossoms
this is also one of those ‘childlike’ songs, except the chorus has a more mature feel which makes it come full circle to the concept of —ing
sleepless rainy night & meaning of you
these two songs are just covers that she re-arranged. these are songs dedicated to her parents, one for each of them as they are favorites of her parents.
she asked duri to feature on one because even though duri is known for his vocal abilities of singing tears in the original key, she wanted his voice to showcase in a lower smoother, less stretched out song
these two songs really fit the retro bill as they’re old songs, and she just wants to do them justice to the original creators
though tbh out of the two, her favorite is sleepless rainy night because of how hip it is to her.

aesthetic & playlist — city pop
summary: city pop is a style of retro japanese music, meant to feel really “urban.” fuse, with the multitude of concepts they’ve come across in the past, have not really touched upon city pop and it becomes one of the few concepts that minjung wishes she could do. the aesthetic of city pop in the bright neon, and cool-tone lights is also something that’s recently inspired her. playlist summary: city pop is one of the current genres that minjung has on repeat. though it serves as little inspiration to the album she crafts, it’s easy listening to ease her through nights of writer’s block or times where songs don’t sound cohesive to her ears. mindless listening, and she’s able to dance around in her living room pretend like she’s a child of the 80′s. the resurgence of city pop makes her hope that gold star will give fuse a city pop sounding song one day, but till then she’ll just continue listening onto her favorite city pop tracks on this playlist. (some songs aren’t really city pop technically, but the vibe of it is there).
브레이브걸스 — 운전만해 (brave girls — we ride)
유빈 — 숙녀 (yubin — lady)
원걸스 — i feel you (wonder girls)
아이유 — 라이락 (iu — lilac)
뮤지 - 생각 생각 생각 (muzie — think think think)
키스누 - Same (kisnue)

playlist / guitar 101
guitar is something she’s picked up in past recent months — managing time constraints, and squeezing in a lesson here and there. given a base of piano, she translates that over to the guitar, going through the initial jump of calluses and broken strings, she’s learned to play a few songs and jump on her own to find songs to practice here and there. sometimes, it comes as finding tabs, or watching youtube tutorials or just free-plucking. either way, she’s become enchanted with the guitar, and finds herself gravitation towards it more than the electric piano in her home studio. the songs highlight her favorite to play, and songs she’s attempting to learn — ranging from songs that just focus on key chords and others that have more focus on plucking rifts.
1. lua — bright eyes 2. first day of my life — bright eyes 3. gravity — john mayer 4. better together — jack johnson 5. my happy ending — avril lavigne 6. wake me up when september ends — green day 7. wrong places — h.e.r 8. swing swing — the all american rejects 9. i miss you — blink 182 10. a little less 16 candles — fall out boy

aesthetic & playlist — girly girl
summary: minjung is not a stereotypical ‘girly girl’ (i don’t mean to say that all girls need to love pink, love makeup, etc. — i just reference it in the sense of the stereotype specifically). she doesn’t normally gravitate towards bubbly pop music nor picks out pinks in her wardrobe. however, there are times in her personality where it comes out whether it’s with perfume choices, or a lip tint — even in her music choices. playlist: for the most part, she’s happy about fuse’s musical choices often thinking that fuse releases some pretty good hits regardless of their nature (aka, she doesn’t care if it’s a red or velvet side, she loves them both normally sans zimzalabim and hands up). more so, she’s grateful that fuse isn’t pushed to do the overtly sexy concepts or the girly pop because she wouldn’t feel very herself doing songs like those. however, she enjoys the hi-teen renditions in kpop as well as western artists that bring her back to believing like she’s on some american sitcom show. warnings: none
1. ASAP — 스테이씨 (STAYC) 2. Next Level — 에스파 (AESPA) 3. black mamba — 에스파 (AESPA) 4. 치맛바람 (chi mat ba ram) — 브레이브걸스 (brave girls) 5. hey juliet — LMNT 6. kiss you — one direction 7. here’s to never growing up — avril lavigne 8. pretty much — teacher 9. upside down (bouncing off the ceiling) — A*TEENS 10. us against the world — play

aesthetic, headcanon & playlist — webtoon favorites
summary: webtoons to minjung are dreamy — hyper-romanticized versions of what she suspects is everyone’s taste of romance. she falls trap to it inevitably, and becomes an avid follower not only because of the topic itself, but also because the drawings are doing beautifully (not the characters but the backgrounds have fun colorations). it’s dreamy, ethereal, and because of that — seo minjung ends up a schmuck for webtoons. playlist summary: sometimes the webtoons she reads comes out with random tracks here and there — where she doesn’t expect much, the songs that come in often make it to her daily playlists and she finds herself getting a better sense of the webtoon when there’s an ost that follows. (her dream at this point would be to sing an ost for one of her favorite webtoons). the songs highlight some of her favorites that play on repeat in the background as she reads then re-reads through each episode for the full mood. the songs balance the indie, light feel guitar strings as there’s no edm-poppy music for the background of these happy readings. warnings: none wc: 489
playlist:
1. 산들 — 취기를 빌려 — 산들 (sandeul — slightly tipsy) 2. 규현 — 내 마음이 움찔했던 순간 (kyuhyun — the moment my heart fluttered) 3. 치즈 — 이렇게 좋아해 본 적이 없어요 (cheeze — never liked it like this) 4. 적재 — 나랑 같이 걸을래 (jukjae — want to walk with me) 5. 허각 — 고백 (huh gak — confession) 6. 이하이 — 그 한마디 (lee hi — dear you) 7. 노을 — 지켜줄게 (noel — saving all my love)
headcanon
minjung reads a lot of webtoons and half of them are just used as time killers, despite how much time she invests in webtoons
what starts off as a few episodes ends up in a full night’s binge where she’ll read it through the entire series of what’s available till the sun rises
when she’s left on a cliffhanger, she’ll be shameless and pay the money to get the cookies needed to go onto the next available episodes
between daum webtoon and naver webtoons? she likes the daum ones more, but still has both apps downloaded since she follows a lot of webtoons closely
for the genre, she used to be into the more interesting topics? such as 외모 지상주의 (lookism? i think), but after a while that got the same and boring so she moved onto different genres.
that led her to the romance, light-hearted love genres — she hates to admit it, but she falls victim to those webtoons one too many times. that includes her favorite school-setting romance webtoons that she reads too many of
she doesn’t let many people around her know this fact? simply because this sort of webtoon reading is relegated to her “alone” time, and she feels slightly embarrassed at the thought that other people would know she reads content like this
still, that doesn’t stop her from being an avid reader. in fact, most times in the van or between schedules she’ll be reading a webtoon — she nearly has one new episode to read on the daily.
the webtoons fall into the certain prototype of a male lead, cool off and collected that strays far from the crowd. then the female lead, which always is some cute or beautiful girl who is either spunky(?) out there in her personality, and steadfast in her beliefs. or just quiet and reserved like the lead boy, and they all fall in love slowly but surely and that deals with a happy ending.
as for specific webtoons itself? she likes 취향저격 그녀 (she’s my type?) because of the lighthearted far-off aspect of it. plus, she considers the ost for this webtoon unmatched as it carries some of her favorite songs at the moment. she also likes 바니와 오빠들 (bani and the boys) for her easy reading, 바른연애 길잡이 (a guide to proper dating?) because that sort of love is almost annoying at times, but she gets caught up in reading it. 우리집이거든요 (this is my house, you know?), 여신강림 (true beauty), 여주실격 (no longer a heroine) as it ties bits with her life in the fame world, 소심한 팔레트 (shy palette) for her art hoe taste, 원수를 사랑하라 (love your enemy) because the main lead drawn is closest to her ideal type?
aka she reads a lot of webtoons for no reason, wastes a shit ton of money on reading ahead. romance is her ish, and this is somewhat of a secret she harbors

aesthetic & playlist — gold star girl groups
summary: gold star media is a company headed by bang sunyoung. a ceo with a powerful female has created some of the biggest names in the industry. each group doesn’t really clash with the other’s concept, leading to each having their own distinct color and sound. playlist summary: gold star has four girl groups, soon to be five. throughout the years of being in this company, minjung’s had her fair favorites of girl group songs that have come from the in-house company producers at gold star. though fuse has done a lot of their own different concepts, each girl group excels at their own niche — each one has their charms. that minjung can agree with. she prefers fuse’s sound for the most part, but still she comes across certain favorites from specific groups that lead her to listen in from time to time. plus, it gives her the benefit of shouting out her fellow company members during interviews. warnings: none
1. silhouette — bad girl, good girl 2. aria — i’m so sick 3. fuse — psycho 4. femme fatale — as if it’s your last 5. silhouette — ddd 6. aria — %% 7. fuse — rookie 8. femme fatale — lovesick girls (to be released lol)

aesthetic & playlist — 위로가 필요할때 (when you need comforted)
darker times, lonelier thoughts — the instances where the world becomes a harrowing place of empty faces you can’t attach yourself to. she walks around with a pretty smile, flitting from one place to the next. no repercussions except when she’s left alone to house the empty echoes of these secondhand thoughts of the ‘harsh’ world.
playlist summary: a playlist filled with songs that make you feel comforted during the harder reflections of life. loneliness isn’t a curse, and with all the rest of the shit, everything eventually passes. the playlist highlights the songs that best dig its touch upon the melancholic feelings, loosening it giving easy listening to the times where you don’t want to think about anything and instead just drain out every piece of shit with warmer lyrics.

aesthetic, headcanon & playlist — chores
summary: minjung appreciates a clean home, a clean home happy home — this is emphasized by the look of tidiness that stems from a ‘mess’. there’s commonality in beiges, and open wardrobes that pinpoint her go-tos. what she serves is the look of something ‘lived in’ rather than ‘put together’ and too polished / extra-clean. playlist summary: when she cleans, there’s a specific playlist she puts on. it’s the type of music correlated to a lazy afternoon — not so much lulled inside a quiet rhythm, but more up beat and ‘chipper’. the extra step to a day with the smooth r&b beats that makes it easy to hand mop floors and vacuum everything / take care of laundry — the songs she’s come across randomly, and if it fits the “vibe” she puts it into the cleaning playlist. she won’t admit, but there’s a healing aspect to cleaning her apartment, emphasized by the scent of fresh laundry hanging on the drying rack when she listens to these songs. wc: 603
playlist
1. samm henshaw — broke 2. spencer sutherland — sweater 3. BENEE — supalonely ft. gus dapperton 4. n.e.r.d — maybe 5. mac miller — the spins 6. surfaces — good day 7. forrest — so good
for the most part — minjung likes doing chores. but not in the way that she asks to go over to her friend’s houses, to sweep floors and do laundry on their behalf. it’s a selfish thought process that comes when she only has to do the chores pertaining to her own space
the way she cleans is simple: dust, dry sweep, wet mop, dry. vacuum in each room — there’s a certain cleanliness she likes to keep.
everything / every room is not spotless and without a spec of dust. it’s not all polished floors and clean white walls, but instead something that’s the awkward middle area of — is it clean? or is it purposely cluttered? it’s the latter, and there’s a definitive place for everything. hence, the last picture in the aesthetic of draped over chairs filled with random plants / pots.
she likes how there’s a clear cut positioning to the disarray of her house, and she keeps it that way for a reason. when someone offers to clean her house for her, she refuses and prefers that they leave it be especially because she has things there for a reason
aside from the general orginization, her floors are for the most part clear. her house decorated in a nude tone / beige color set. there’s rarely a pop of color, just shades of gray and neutral tones. it’s not pastel pink or pastel blues, or that soft tone coloration because she doesn’t cling onto color for long — the neutrality and the overall ‘boringness’ of the color palette is what drives her interior decor thought process
she likes having patterns on her curtains, little pieces of art that she steam cleans once every month (this is probably her most menial chore, and the one she is less excited about. but she still does it to keep the integrity of the piece alive)
she likes wooden tones too, but the problem is that dust collects really well on wood and it’s visible despite the pine colorations being lighter. still, the aesthetic trumps the inability to keep up with formalities and that’s why she keeps it as that.
other chores include doing the dishes, which she doesn’t like. however, she also can’t stand to see dishes piling up in the sink, so she’s one of those ‘cook and clean right after’ types. she knits her own scrubbers and they’re placed in a basket to the corner — discards it as needed, does not cling onto things for that long.
the soap she uses is meraki, and that’s just because of the specific scent it holds. freshness, and that’s enough to keep using it.
other chores include cleaning the bathroom, which she doesn’t mind — it’s easy to clean this on the daily, and there’s rarely guests that stay over overnight so keeping to herself is easy. the bathroom gets deep cleaned once every two weeks, but she manages little things on a day-to-day basis
laundry is the last main thing? probably her most favorite thing to do on this list — the therapeutic nature of doing laundry is worth no words. she uses le labo detergent, and cleans her sheets once every two weeks. the laundry she does as much as she can, considering it’s free therapy
she’s the type to separate whites and colors — do that separately, and hand wash as necessary for the more delicate pieces
laundry gets hung up on the drying rack, and serves as a place of humidity during the cold winters + heated floors
if given the choice, she’d do laundry every day.

aesthetic + playlist — the awkward middle school years
summary: the middle school/early high school years were a formative period for minjung. the awkward phases of knobby knees, braces and american apparel all logged in on myspace and cyworld. and an awkward personality to match — as much as she never talks about it, this period ends up becoming one of her favorites.
playlist summary: like mentioned above, these years of her life become a formative period. too korean for america and too american for korea — she balances in between switching from american schools to korean schools. this shift, or stuck in limbo phase was the trigger needed to find her own niche, own place where she would find herself. in this phase, she temporarily strayed away from the chart topping poppy music and turned towards the alternative / pop-punk genre, thinking it was ‘trendy’ and ‘different’. but in reality, she wasn’t different — just a trend follower. but this playlist highlights her favorite pop-punk ‘scene’ bands from the ‘scene queen’ era of her life.
1. six feet under the stars — all time low 2. 개야 짖어라 — 시나위 (bark dog — sinawe) 3. jamie all over — mayday parade 4. emergency — paramore 5. grand theft autumn — fall out boy 6. hero/heroine — boys like girls 7. slow down — the academy is 8. stolen — dashboard confessional 9. a little less sixteen candles, a little more “touch me” — fall out boy 10. into your arms — the maine

aesthetic & playlist — disney
aesthetic summary: she’s not a fan of disney movies, not in love with the whole damsel in distress aspect. in fact, more times than not she’d choose pixar over the classics — still, safe to say she’s watched a majority of the old disney movies (only once, never binge watching on repeat — that’s boring to her). her three favorites are arial, belle and alice in wonderland. playlist: seo minjung doesn’t understand what’s so catchy about disney soundtracks. doesn’t get the people that listen to it on repeat, and singalong for longer than necessary. the whole aspect of an animated musical does intrigue her, but doesn’t self-service more than just an hour of entertainment. however, despite her somewhat bitter taste of disney soundtracks, there’s a few songs that she finds more in tune with her personal taste and she’s cracked a smile when people mention these specific songs as they’re the only songs that really have stuck in her head. (warning to those that burst into disney songs: she’ll avoid you like the plague, smile along only to shake her head and think — overrated.)
1. i’m late — alice in wonderland 2. belle — beauty and the beast 3. kiss the girl — the little mermaid (yes, this is a cliche. but the sha-la-las can’t be ignored.) 4. i won’t say i’m in love — hercules (she loves megara) 5. hawaiian roller coaster ride — lilo and stitch 6. out there — hunchback of notre dame 7. something there — beauty and the beast

playlist ; back to your roots
summary: there comes a time that she’s too far in promotions (back to back). it gives her complete distaste to sing the songs she’s forced to sing. instead, she falls back to a simple playlist made — one of those ‘song compilation’ that becomes easy listening. sure, she can curate new playlists or put her whole library into shuffle, but for some reason she just finds herself mass re-playing these songs. maybe she likes it, or maybe she just wants to listen to something non-industry related. it’s a picture of her roots once more in the indie scene, a scene she’s forced to give up for the time being because her current ventures consist of playing the role of a ‘ballad’ gal.
1. regent’s park — bruno major 2. lovememore. — dosii 3. sunflower — rex orange county 4. hey girl — boy pablo 5. if you want to — beabadoobee 6. lemonade ft. alfie templeman — circa waves 7. cannonball — damien rice 8. broken — jake bugg 9. 1957 — milo greene

aesthetic + playlist ; minjung the ballader
aesthetic summary: gold star has started their attempt at re-branding minjung — this time, they’re pushing the artsy / 여리여리 image onto her. they’ve attempted to do so with the song 180 degrees, lyrics originally written for a different vibe. they took her lyrics and decided on a track by @fmdsooah to convey a song about 180 degrees shift of personality before an impending breakup. playlist summary: it’s not as if she detests ballads, no. it’s the opposite — she enjoys wheesung, gummy, baek z young and even modern powerhouse balladers like dimensions soloist 3 and gold star soloist 2. there’s an art to it she appreciates, the aspect of using a wide vocal range, completely controlled and the skill it takes to belt out something. but singing ballads herself? it isn’t her forte. it strains her voice, and leaves her completely strung tired each time she sings the song. this playlist is meant to highlight the ballads she does respect/listen to on a weekly basis — plus, the songs that often pop up when she goes to karaoke.
1. 홀로 — 지아 (이하이) // holo — jiah (leehi) 2. 홀로 — 정키 ft. 김나영 // holo — jungkey ft. kim nayoung 3. 내 마음이 움찔했던 순간 — 규현 // the time my heart fluttered — kyuhyun 4. 거짓말이라도 해서 널 보고싶어 — 백지영 // even if i have to lie, i want to see you — baek z young 5. 모든 날, 모든 순간 — 폴킴 // everyday, every momen — paul kim 6. 그때 또 다시 — 임창정 // again — lim chang jung 7. 첫눈처럼 너에게 가겠다 — gold star soloist 2 // i will go to you like the first snow

playlist — vinyl favorites
summary: typical art hoe collecting vinyls, or that’s how the cliche goes. but it’s not a hobby to minjung as she doesn’t actively seek different vinyl cds and record players. she just has one record player, and amasses a collection that people have gifted or some that she bought in the spur of the moment. most of the time, she rarely changes the vinyl playing on her record player as she gets wrapped up in a specific ‘mood’ to listen to one thing for months at a time. but as of lately, she’s making it a habit to make use of all the vinyl cd’s inside her small niche array. the best part is that she discovers different songs since she can’t necessarily skip songs / has to listen the whole way through.
1. always love — nada surf 2. let there be love — oasis 3. smile like you mean it — the killers 4. a lack of color — death cab for cutie 5. coconut records — west coast 6. hide and seek — imogen heap 7. over and over — the 88 8. why don’t the buildings cry? — youth group

aesthetic, playlist — christmas, december
aesthetic summary: there’s something about christmas that get seo minjung in the holiday spirit. the lights and the decorations that the department stores do with the constant christmas music. although seoul hasn’t snowed on christmas for a while — it’s the fact that she has some of that western culture from being in america that eventually grew to be a part of her. happier this month — and maybe it’s because christmas is in december.
