#okay I do not really like talking about celebrities on here#but do people not know what crisp rat means by 'not religious?'#he doesn't actually mean not religious#he's definitely still super Christian#like that's a whole thing in American evangelicalism#when I was a dumb youth group kid I used to see t-shirts and things that said stuff like#'it's a relationship not a religion'#every megachurch worship leader stumping for donald trump would say they weren't religious#truly cannot stress enough that this is a whole thing!!!!!!!!#it's just white American evangelicals putting down Catholics and mainline Protestants (but especially Catholics)#very 'well I'm a REAL Christian not like those other guys'#it's just bigotry and gatekeeping folks!!!!!!!#in this context 'religious' is used as a stand-in for any Christian religious tradition that the speaker disagrees with#'their rules are WRONG but my rules are HOLY'#(and yes obviously there are antisemitic roots to this as well but I don't feel qualified to go into that here)#but yeah it's a way white American evangelicals who are largely incredibly conservative#playact at being cool and hip#and also scapegoat all their hate on 'just a plain reading of the Bible'#(conveniently ignoring all the cultural baggage and bias they are bringing to that reading)#ANYWAY obviously this is just based on my own experience#and I do not know CP so maybe he really does mean that he's agnostic now or something#but I doubt it
