Ethnically correct Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus fancast, you cowards

None of you asked but I don't care. Have a list of faces (save for Percy, Annabeth, Grover and Luke) I would/will use in pjo edits, who also match looks and ethnicity.

Thalia: Emily Rudd

I loved Emily Rudd because she has these surprisingly soft features that are so striking when she gets emotional that really scream Thalia. Just look at her eyes, that haircut. Legendary. I really had a hard time choosing between her and Taylor Bex-Klaus, but they're both great choices, so go crazy. Mind you, Taylor is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns.

Nico: Finn Wolfhard

I'm tired of seeing Finn Wolfhard everywhere but he's sadly the best visual representation I have of Nico. He's got this tired, pale, kinda scrawny look about him that's really Nico after running away, and he's capable of pulling off both the jaded, annoyed preteen who thinks he knows everything AND the scared dumb kid who just wants his sister back. Jack Dylan Grazer and Asher Angel were runner-ups in this case.

Frank: Brandon Soo Hoo

This one was incredibly difficult because I tried to focus on capturing Frank's look and not just getting the first Chinese actor I found. There's a huge lack of plus-sized Chinese actors, and especially so of plus-sized Chinese actors who are/could CONVINCINGLY play a teenager. Jesus wept. But look at him. An angel. I would die for him.

Jason: Colin Ford

For Jason I wanted to go with the whole "All American Boy" style that Reyna describes him with in Blood of Olympus. So not just the blonde and blue-eyed combo, but someone that you look at and you can visualize them as the epitome of middle class white America. Another option is Mason Dye, who played young Chris Dollanganger in the remake of Flowers in the Attic.

Piper: Stella Maeve

Ok so Piper was a challenge. Normally I'd go with Devery Jacobs and call it a day ( and I do ) because there's barely any native American actresses as it is and, and the amount of people claiming even the slightest bit of Cherokee heritage is insane.

There was once a great post about Devery-as-Piper talking about how the Mohawk and Cherokee both belonged to the Iroquoian people at one point and I know that's not a justification but my God, it's difficult to find any actual actress that are/could play Piper's age ranger and are also Cherokee so bear with me on this. My only problem with Stella is that you can tell she's 30, which isn't a bad thing, but if you're planning on using her for book-era then there's a problem.

Other options that are also Cherokee are Jamie Loy and Jenny Albright, but they have very little resources as well. There's Angel Haze, but she's black/Cherokee and agender so I'd consider before using her as Piper IF you're seeing her as cis and/or you're not seeing Tristan as black/Cherokee (or at the very least Aphrodite as black in that moment since the gods don't actually have a race). I thought about adding Kelsey Chow but it turns out her claims of Cherokee ancestry are dubious at best so I steered away from that.

Hazel: Skai Jackson

Apart from the fact that comparing anyone with black or brown skin to food is boring and outdated, there's NO dark skinned actresses that match her description (fucking cocoa bean colored skin, I want to die) and are also young? Yara Shahidi, Zendaya Coleman and Amandla Stenberg, the most popular faceclaims, are too light skinned. Riele Downs and Reiya Downs are two other options but their resources aren't as plenty and they look a little too old to play Hazel, book-canon wise.

Leo: Anthony Revolori

As someone who's also Latina I'm the first to talk about how you can't interchange Latin Americans, but Anthony, despite being Guatemalan as opposed to Mexican, is perhaps the best face for Leo ever. Especially when he plays Flash Thompson, who can be seen as Leo but with more of a jerkass atittude. It's all in the facial expressions. Another choice is Xolo Maridueña, who's actually Mexican, but he's too serious and not as loose and, I'm not sure how to say this, but elastic in his expressions as I'd envision Leo.

Reyna: Jamila Velázquez

Reyna is Puerto Rican and she should have only one, not have two surnames if she was not legally recognized by a mother, thank you. I debated between her and Paola Andino, but Paola is too light-skinned for my liking, although I don't completely cast her aside. Jamila has fewer resources, but she's got Reyna vibes and I love her curly hair, that square-ish jawline! Sue me.

Octavian: Dane Dehaan

So Dane Dehaan is… also old, but like I said with Piper this is purely for editing purposed and not for any actual fancast of a hypothetical tv show or movie, so if you use him then ay. I focused on Percy's description of Octavian as looking like Luke but washed out, so I searched for the same blonde-blue eyed combo albeit paler. But another thing I focused on was someone who could really sell to me Octavian. Someone who can actually convince me to go fight against another group of teenagers and see them as a threat, who could balance "slightly intimidating and unhinged" with "ok I can see why people would trust him".

That and he looks like he hasn't slept in 30 years which is an Octavian aesthetic. Tom Felton is second because he's also got some features I like, esp during the Draco era.
