I genuinely appreciate Margaret Atwood keeping up with name trends and acknowledging that the Commanders (men who seem to be primarily in their 30s-50s) would not perpetually be named Fred and Glen. And obviously Gen X/millennial/Gen Z men can be just as terrifying and misogynistic as their older counterparts. But I can't read "Ofkyle" without thinking of that Robot Chicken sketch ("I'm...not sure how you know so much about Commander Dylan's troubled past").

#the testaments #the handmaid's tale #the name kyle peaked the year i was born #so if you meet a kyle he's more likely to be 31-32 than any other age #at least in america #it seems like it would skew slightly older tbh?#anyway: i lost interest in the hulu show after the first season #first because i don't want to feel like puking so much when i'm just watching tv #second because they'd finished with everything in the book and i assumed shit was going to get at least moderately stupid #and i was kind of leery about even a sequel by the same author after so much time #(especially because i don't think atwood's futuristic books are even her best ones)#but it turns out i am very interested in what a girlhood in gilead would look like
