I'm actually going to switch this up and give you a line from an original story I'm working on.

"Fresh kelp was offered for barter amongst the Archipelago selkies, and Lonan had witnessed one of Roni’s aunts engage in a form of haggling he could barely follow, simultaneously trying to get the best deal in trading for a pail of clams while insisting that the clams were worth more than she was offering."

#current working title is “In the Company of Selkies” and will be published under my pen name #it's part of a larger setting I've been tooling around in my head for years #it's a world where the gods are dead because they had to break themselves down into their barest essence to terraform a new planet #and magic works by channeling that essence #each book is going to be a standalone that features people from different parts of the world #for example I have one planned where the main character is a magic practitioner trying to break a difficult curse #another that takes place at the yearly magic conscription where all strong practitioners have to come siphon their magic for a couple weeks #(it's actually on a rotation basis where you go the same month every year but it's always happening and you get paid well to be there)#(except this year a scandal gets uncovered and intrigue abounds)#I have another one about a prince who is secretly working with rebels to overthrow his father because he Does Not Want to be king #and then I have plans for one based on “This Assassination Attempt Could Have Gone Better” but with original characters #similar to how I turned “Discipline at the Devils' Den” into my novel “Butterfly's Kiss” and you absolutely can't trace it back to Widomauk #if you want to check that book out it's available through my publisher JMS Books under my pen name “Feral Sephrian”
