Me: is the soccer show good? No. Not really. It takes itself so seriously on the most ridiculous things it comes across as a comedy most of the time. Everyone has a different shade of mental illness. The guy who genuinely thinks a monster lives inside of him is one of the most normal people in the show (I love you bby). Only a couple of characters are actually fleshed out, and most others are bits masquarading for personalities. There is sexist humor. The themes also contradict the stated goal of the series. Oh, and if the fact that they basically kidnapped 300 teens under the false pretense of giving them a bright future only to actually crush their careers wasn't enough, there's also a scene where they reveal their suits have built-in electric charges which they used to zap a kid for trying to punch his teammate. They also put said kid in a straitjacket right after, and this was never commented on.
This is a show about high school soccer.
Everyone acts like it's life or death when they play. If someone actually died in a match it would still be less dramatic than some of those plays. The stakes are simultaneously way too high for no reason, and not high at all because you can absolutely tell who will progress and who won't. Except for that igaguri guy, for some reason.
Also me: *gets meta brainworms for this show in the middle of the night*
Me: must a show be good? Is it not enough to be stupidly entertaining, pointlessly dramatic, and overall way too intense?
