anyway, it's issues like this one that remind me why i kind of hesitate over some of the retcons in the recent spurrier runs, like the one with him now having opened dream's pouch of sand and stolen some before they even met. because like, it's easy enough to look at john constantine now — with 70 years of worst possible choices and unresolved trauma crystallizing underneath his skin to cover up all the soft, hopeful bits where he's used to getting hit — and assign him arbiter of ill intentions, magus of wasted potential, saint of shit choices, but man . . . he was new to this, once. he was still new to this 80 issues in.

80 issues in, and he's not used to losing friends yet; he even has time enough between catastrophes to grieve each individual one. still has enough left to live for at this stage to necessitate running and hiding, instead of bodily throwing himself at the problem like he learns to later, or sitting apathetically by to do nothing except smoke and watch the world fall apart when he finally gives up. fuck, he still apologizes.

and you're telling me this guy, this soppy wet cat motherfucker hiding from the devil in a church basement, so guilty over not knowing what happened to the guy that he paid people (paid chas, so chas could pay people) to attack that the bottle he's holding in this scene isn't even his second or third........this guy's past, more innocent self lied right to the face of DREAM OF THE ENDLESS and got away with it?

three headcanons you never told anyone.

i : wednesday doesn't thrive in solitude and silence. it is helpful when she's focusing on writing or solving whatever crime she stumbled upon, but she does not enjoy it. she's unfortunately a social creature, like any other human. she may not display her needs at all for that matter, but she needs other people around her, be it her family, her friends or a romantic partner. you may often see this whenever she involves your muse in her plans. it's not machiavellian, just her way of interacting and not being alone. ii : she has psychopathic tendencies. the everyday is about me quote and how her gloomy eyes light up whenever she gets what she wants ; or the contrary, the look of utter dispair when tyler revealed how he tricked her. these two examples show her psychopathic tendencies. she's aware of how society works and how she doesn't fall into any stereotype that would include her in said society. therefore, the only alternative is to be herself and in consequence, put a barrier between her and the outside world. if the outside world treats her as a menance, then she'll show them how far she's willing to go. it helps that she has a high self esteem and she puts her intellect before her sentiments. aka emotion equals weakness. iii : she's afraid of rejection. which means, when she feels threatened, the primal instincts kick in and she bares her teeth as one last warning. okay, make the last phrase metaphorical, although i can still see it happening. the reason why she avoids technology like the internet is because of her fear of failing, which comes right before rejection from the few individuals that stood by her side up to that point. same goes for inviting people in an unconventional way (that is, from her perspective), like how she asked xavier to the rave'n. since she wasn't doing it her way, the mask fell off and she was no longer in control, which meant she could get rejected. even if they knew each other before and xavier clearly wanted her to ask him out. this all ties up with the first two headcanons, so enjoy!

three things your character likes to do in their free time.

i : writing ii : listening to music iii : preparing for doomsday (by pretending to be dead, haunting others without their knowledge, mastering her skills in possession by learning how to mind read others etc.)

three people your character loves.

herself : there's no denying. wednesday will always put herself first. she may have some relapses and look like she puts someone else first, but at the end of the day, the only person that stands by her is herself. all that self preservation comes at a cost : her only true love will be herself. and that doesn't make her a narcissist (as i too believed at some point), that's just a perk from psychopathy. wednesday's a master of personal gratification for a reason!

joel : it's true what they say, you can't forget your first love. it happened when she was twelve. joel was the first outsider that, albeit scared of what she was capable of, still adored her. it reminded wednesday of what her parents have. she vowed she'd kill her husband without getting caught and she visualized killing joel. isn't that romantic of wednesday? there's a part of her that will always rejoice and love joel, no matter how much time has passed. he showed her that she has needs and it's because of him she planned on becoming the greatest black widow in the history. what's there not to love at joel?

your muse : you know it had to come to this. wednesday was content with the fact she will remain a solitary little murderous thing in the intricate web that is life. that was until she met you. but her source of contentment was nothing but a dichotomy. she cannot remain solitary while also letting her murderous tendencies free. she needs you. wednesday did not lower her guards just yet, she hasn't showed you what her true monochromes are. she loves you nonetheless. you are, after all, just a piece in her chess game. we'll see how it goes and who will be the one to claim the checkmate. until then, rest assured, she has her eye on you, always prepared to smother you in your sleep.

two things your character regrets.

i. letting her guard down. emotions equal weakness and weakness gets you killed. she is guilty of letting her sentiments show every now and then and everytime it costed her dearly. that doesn't mean she will stop trying to achieve excellence. it will come a day when her mask won't come off and only her ruthlessness will reign. you should fear that day and hope you're gone before she comes your way.

ii. not being able to fit in. there's nothing more she desires than being accepted and acting normal. she just can't bring herself to do that. it's easier for her parents because they want to live with the illusion that society changed and the people won't exile them with pitchforks anymore. but they believe this illusion. wednesday doesn't because she notices the world around her. even when she arrived at nevermore, she was still the odd man out. she regrets not being able to fit in, but she won't let it be shown. conceal don't feel don't let them know or some shit.

i. fear of rejection : pretty self explanatory ii. agoraphobia : becomes anxious in unfamiliar environments or perceiving that she has little to no control. iii. haphephobia : extreme fear of touching or being touched, stems from her personal boundaries and her need for personal space.
