thinking about dio as a fertility deity + dio as a shadow work deity + dio as a queer deity and how all of those things intersect . fertility is so rooted in comphet reproductive narratives that all other meanings and nuances to fertility as a term for " capable of creation " is just lost . shadow work is about unearthing the parts of oneself that don't see the light and reaching radical self-acceptance through that process . queerness as subversion , queerness as vibrant centerpiece , queerness as the " both and " AND " neither no " . all this is to say , fertility is not solely sex and viticulture when it comes to him , it's any generative process . and what could be more generative than working within to create a new understanding of self , especially as it subverts expectations and allows ultimate freedom through self-expression ? honoring dionysus means honoring the whole self too , in all the messy , dark , painful , " shameful " iterations thereof . and when those around him do that ? consider him satisfied and satiated .

you love them and you're not sure they know. but that's okay. you're used to loving more than you are loved. you give more than is given. and maybe others don't understand but you don't expect more. you tell yourself the love in your heart is not meant to be savored by anyone other than you. it's more than enough to get to exist at the same time as them. you stand in their shadow and you thank the sun for casting it. they touch your arm but they do not feel the same warmth which lingers on your skin for days. you gaze at them and they might even be looking right back but they are not seeing into your soul the same way you have memorized theirs. it's enough you tell yourself. it's enough. it's enough. but what if it's not? and what if you're wrong. what if they see you and all this time you have been too scared to ask what they're looking at.

also friendly reminder that dio's childhood dismemberment at the hands of the titans is his divine version of top surgery , and also resulted in a sort of stitched together look . if one were to look very closely at his major joints ( ankles / wrists , knees / elbows , hips / shoulders , neck , and jaw ) and occasional random other spots on his body , he has jagged scars all the way around the joints in question . this is from when he was quite literally torn apart and then put back together . because everything else was put back in the same way it was torn , he healed rather well , but the missing chest tissue is what lead to more pronounced scarring there .

as a shapeshifting deity , dio is not unaccustomed nor unwilling to represent attributes of animals important to him . while this is most commonly present in the clothing and accessories he chooses to wear , in his divine verses he does grant himself horns ( i , ii , iii ) that are most often bull horns , but can be goat / sheep .

he doesn't always have these out , and really just saves them for these specific events / circumstances :

relaxing in privacy with just his wife , pets , children , etc.

fancy galas or other diplomatic events where he has a statement™️ he wants to make

in the throes of his own madness , at a bacchanal or otherwise

( it's for practicality that the horns aren't always present , but when they are , he's counting on other people's critical thinking skills to determine which circumstance applies . )
