i'm gonna write this in more detail later when I'm not so freshly awake and have more than one functioning braincell , but for now, here's this, which has been mulling in my head since i started to analyze his interactions with the kids in after.life: ray has a big soft spot for people deemed outcasts, delinquents, and weirdos. the others. ray himself is one, yes, but he also interacts with these people regularly. not only are his fellow ghost.busters these kinds of people, but ray's shop is literally an occult shop next to a m.anic p.anic store. you know, one of the most popular alt hair dye brands? it's safe to say he meets a lot of "weird" people, but ray doesn't find them weird. they're like him. ray knows what it's like to be shunned for your interests and how you present yourself, so he makes his shop the safest place he can. this means he'll get a lot of visitors who just want to talk rather than shop, but he's okay with that. he's always happy to help -- and hug!

1. him covering winston from the explosion after defeating gozer (when they’re shown getting up, ray’s on top of him and i refuse to believe he just happened to get tossed that way)
2. the dad vibes from his interactions with the player/the rookie in the video game
