Marissa Meyer

Marissa Meyer hazánkban egyre ismertebb amerikai írónő. A diplomáját a Pacific Lutheran Universityn szerezte kreatív írásból és gyermekirodalomból, mesterdiplomáját pedig “publishing” (kb. kiadói ismeretek) szakon szeretné a Pace Universityn. Már egészen kiskorában megmutatkozott benne az írói – vagy legalábbis a könyvszerető – véna, az egyik első szava az volt, hogy „story” (aztán a „bath” és a „cookie” következett, azaz fürdés és a süti). Nem csak a verbális fejlődésében nyilvánult meg a történetek kedvelése, de a kedvenc játéka is egy puha kis könyv volt. Nem csoda tehát, hogy amióta az eszét tudja író szeretett volna lenni.

14 éves korában ismertette meg egy barátja az anime és a fanfictiönök világával, amelybe bele is szerelmesedett. Ennek következtében Alicia Blade írói álnéven összesen több mint negyven Sailor Moon fanfictiont publikált – művei még mindig olvashatók a fanfiction.net weboldalán. Mielőtt teljes munkaidős íróvá vált, öt évet töltött könyvszerkesztéssel Seattle-ben. Szabadidejét főként gyermekeivel és férjével tölti, imádnak utazni és családi programokat szervezni.

Munkássága

A hírnevet a Cinder című kötet (Holdbéli Krónikák 1. része) hozta meg neki, ami hazánkban is kiadásra került, még az Alexandra Kiadó gondozásában 2012-ben, nemrég a Könyvmolyképző Kiadó újra megjelentette ezt a fantasztikus kötetet. A Cinder egy újramesélés, azaz retelling, a híres Csipkerózsika sztori fantasy-sci-fi változata, amelyben Cinder egy kiborg, aki egyben Új Peking legjobb műszerésze is. A koronaherceg, Kai a műszerészeti tudása miatt fel is keresi Cindert, Szerepel a történetben egy különös holdbéli királynő, Levana is – vajon sikerül  gonosz uralkodónak a földet meghódítania? Cinder kezében a megoldás és a jövő kulcsa – lélegzetállító kalandjait pedig nem csupán egy, de 4 kötetben olvashatjuk.

Marissa további magyarul megjelent művei közé tartozik a Scarlet, ami a Piroska és a Farkas újramesélése, és a Cinder folytatását képzi. 2014-ben került kiadásra a kötet szintén az Alexandra gondozásában, reméljük újra kaphatóvá válik a közeljövőben. A sztori ott veszi fel a fonalat, ahol az előző véget ért, de számos új szereplő megjelenik, köztük természetesen Scarlet, azaz Piroska is.  Megismerkedhetünk Farkassal is, aki egy vonzó – de persze ijesztő is – pankrátor, akivel együtt erednek Scarlet nagyanyjának nyomába, aki eltűnt. Később persze Cinderrel is összefutnak és közösen próbálják Levana királynő fondorlatait megakadályozni.

Marissa harmadik magyarul megjelent kötete a legfrissebb, Heartless – Szívtelen című története. Marissa az újramesélések mestere, ez a kötet az Aliz Csodaországban feldolgozása. Főszerepben Catherine, a jövendőbeli szívkirálynő, aki azonban inkább cukrászati babérokra törne, pékséget szeretne nyitni legjobb barátnőjével. Igaz, hogy a Szív Király kedvence, de az ő szíve az udvari bolond, Jest felé húz. Kapcsolatukat azonban a király és Cath szülei miatt csak titokban folytathatják. A helyzet persze nem egyszerű, a sorsnak más tervei vannak, mint a lánynak, ez a varázslatos és őrült, szörnyekkel teli vidék számos meglepetést rejt.

Angolul több kötete olvasható az írónőnek, többek között a Cress, amely a Holdbéli krónikák harmadik kötete, amely az Aranyhaj újramesélése, valamint a Winter, ami pedig a Hófehérke történet más aspektusból való megközelítése. A Stars Above pedig egy novelláskötet szintén a Holdbéli Krónikák univerzumban, valamint a Fairest című kötet is ide kapcsolódik, Levana sztoriját meséli el.  Meyer két másik kötete is megjelent már angolul, a Renegades és annak folytatása, a Archenemies.

Thursday. Class. Went to the gym with Jing! Took her home. Went home and showered and took a short nap. Went to the Ten Ren's fundraiser then went to the Daiso store with Andrew. Our new fave store! Then just went home after.

Friday. Dropped off Jane's Pitch Perfect dvd. Went to the dentist for the second part of my teeth cleaning and it didn't hurt as much as the first time! Got my eyebrows did. Dropped my notes to Sara. Went home and tried to eat but my mouth was still to numb to. Went to the Gilly Hicks interview. Hopefully they hire me! Went back home and got ready. Picked up Andrew. Went to the IC bowling event. It was pretty chill. Went to Guppies afterwards. Good day! (:

Sunday. Went to church. Saw Nicole's new car! Went straight to the Whatever Tea Lounge fellowship study session. Oh my, our drinks took forever to come. But the sesh was chill. Picked up Andrew and went to Dollar Tree. Dropped him off at the gym after. Then went to Gangsta's Paradise after to watch the Super Bowl! First time sort of watching it. I was just too excited for Beyonce's half time performance. Oh my, I was going crazy throughout the whole thang. And when Destiny's Child popped up, oh my. I was dead. Loved it! But yeah, finally played BP with Ash's new table and the Stella Rosa was on point! Visited Andrew again after. And now I'm supposed to be studying for my midterm tomorrow. Ugh, what is life.

When I'm sitting in a moving bangka, wind whipping through my hair and the heat of the sun stinging my skin, I try to lean forward into the sea, to catch cool droplets of water.

I feel free, unconstricted by concrete and smog and warm bodies rushing, always rushing to get to a destination. The world slows down, and there's nothing left to do but to savor the moment. I feel so small, in a world so big. And beautiful. 

It was February 1, my last day at work. In response to me telling her that I was leaving, the person who hired me said, with a wide smile, "Why not?"

At that moment, I thought again of that feeling of being in the open sea. I had been fighting being weighed down by the thought of unemployment, uncertainty. Her words reassured me. It was time to let go.
