Isaiah Marin, Oklahoma inmate 726373, born 1993, incarceration intake in 2015 at age 22, sentenced to life without parole
Murder
In September 2015, Isaiah Marin plead guilty to murder in the first degree for the October 30, 2014 killing of 19-year-old Jacob Crockett.
Marin was escorted in chains into the court room to begin proceedings in a competency trial to determine if he was mentally fit to stand trial.
On October 29, 2014 Stillwater Police dispatch received a call from Marin stating he has just killed someone. After police arrived to the scene of the crime, Crockett’s body was found with multiple stab wounds and his head nearly cut off.
Marin was found walking west on Highway 51 covered in blood with the murder weapon in hand. Marin’s defense lawyer started the proceedings by stating the defense had no problem with his competency evaluation made by the Oklahoma Forensic Center, located in Vinita Oklahoma, which found him mentally competent to stand trial. The defense waived the right for a jury trial and District Judge Phillip Corley accepted Marin’s competency on behalf of the court.
The defense then announced that a plea bargain had been struck with the district attorneys office and Marin was ready to plead guilty for the charge of first-degree murder. Marin then approached the bench to make his plea.
When asked by Corley if he was aware he was making a plea of guilty Marin responded yes. Corley then asked Marin to state what he was pleading guilty to. Marin stumbled through his response, whether due to nerves or remorse, “I...I took the life of Jacob Crockett intentionally by stabbing him to death.”
The court accepted Marin’s plea.
At this point Judge Corley called Marin to the stand and announced that the court has found him guilty of murder in the first degree. Marin was then sentenced to life in prison without the option of parole.
As part of the plea deal Marin will receive physiological treatment while incarcerated.
Corley then made his statement to Marin.
“This act that you did commit, you will remember every day in prison what you did to him until you no longer exist.”
Marin then waived his right to an appeal process.

Vibe
It was late at night and I just couldn't sleep. I had gone to London for a meeting and now I was awake. You know that feeling. The spot just between being frustrated at not being able to sleep as it transitions to just accepting being awake. So I did what any sane person would do.
I went for a walk.
OK, sanity is relative, but the air was... meh. Nothing really helped. I starting feeling dumb from going out. Then I heard the beat. It was like some electronica. Someone was having a rave. Except... was that a saxophone? It pulled on my curiosity like a cat trying to unravel the crocheting.
I found a church, but what was going on inside would pull bobbies from miles around to break it up. I approached the door and she smiled. I asked if there was admission and she said yes there was if I entered.
It was one of those. Where everyone was being weird by being themself. The kind that you murmur to yourself when you're out of earshot and wonder what kind of movie you'd get if you took Escape From New York and cast it with theme park mascots then act dismayed when it doesn't win an Oscar for Best Use Of A Trout In A Romantic Scene.
The good kind of weird.
People there were just talking and being real. I walked around. Talked to them. Sipped from giant plastic cups that tasted like sweetened, watered-down margarita mix, except it was good. Nobody cared I was there but they were glad I came. The music was just all over the place where you felt like you could just dance the world away but you'll sit this one out, maybe the next song.
And all over, I saw her. Making sure people were taken care of. Explaining how Vibe operates (apparently that's the name of the place). They've been operating out of London for years. Always after midnight. Just look for some stuffy old church where this sort of thing would be frowned upon. It was a specific phase of the moon. Hope you're having fun.
Not once did she check on me. I wondered about that. Maybe she knew I wouldn't be back. I had fun and that's all that mattered to me. I tossed out my cup and headed for the door. Sun was coming up and I knew at sunrise, the doors would close.
She met me at the doors. "Don't go yet. I need to tell you how to get back." She grabbed my hand and started pulling me along, describing things I couldn't quite grasp even now. There was one point where she was showing me photos of a funeral for a couple insects.
I commented, "It's like trying to remember a dream."
She smiled, "I think you got it. Come back any time you dream."
I laughed, sadly. "Thank you, but I can't control my dreams anymore."
"Everybody says they... wait, what do you mean you can't control them anymore?"
"When I was younger, I learned how to dreamwalk. I saw the most vivid things. Beautiful lands. Horrific nightmares. Things that you;'d think the mind could never conceive. I played with them all. But I gave it up. So I could actually dream again."
She was sad. Give a puppy to a kid, watch them in delight, and then take the puppy away. That's how she looked. She was on the verge of tears. "It's not fair."
"It never is."
=============
I woke up at 0548. I swear I could still taste that fake lime flavor just under my tongue. My wife was still sound asleep, but I couldn't lay there. I had to get this down. I woke up sad that it was over but glad I had been there. Some might call it bittersweet but it was more soursweet to me.
Just like the drinks.
So if you find yourself wondering around London late at night during a specific phase of the moon, try checking out some of the churches. You might just find an electronic beat. Where the drinks are taste cheap and taste so good. With music you can dance to but don't want to right now. And people you enjoy and will never meet again.
Vibe.
