HOW TO: Forget Your Phone

First we’re going to need to get rid of those stress inducing mobile phone.

That’s right, bury them. 

It’s the only way you’re going to be able to have some meaningful one-on-one time with mother nature.

“Yo, let’s go get some nature.”

After you realize your rock cell phone will not cut it, a thing called cell phone deprivaiton sets in.

Consider these exercises that let you focua on the present, like ttying to balance your walking stick, do it for as long as you can. It will help you concentrate and be in the moment.

Try and take a photo of that rare bird that you tell your friends about, but they never believe that you’ve seen it.

Look for the most beautiful thing you’ve seen on your trip, and take a charoal rubbing of it.

Walk the trails and find the most perfect skimming stone. Try and beat your old personal best or 88 skips, 79, 80, 81, 82, 83...

Get creative and paint a Vista on the smallest canvas ever made.

There are so many ways we can enjoy nature without the use of technology. So sit back, relax and enjoy nature.

HOW TO: Soak It All In

In this module, we’ll explore, soaking it all in. We need to slow down from the pace of the urban environment. This will help us lower our stress and be more at peace in the present.

Find the comfortable place in nature, be still and observe your surrounding on the macro level. Focus on the present and engage your senses. Smell, taste, touch, hear, see, like you never done before. 

Consider puting your troubles inside a rock and leaving them there. 

“What if E did not equal mc2 ?”

“Is that sasquatch real ?”

“Why did the client send me a JPEG and not a TIFF ?”

“I wonder how many hours I‘ve spent on social media ?”

“Your rock, rock.”

Trees give off a grounding energy, that gives us a feeling of calm. Try giving one a hug or introducing yourself to one, or just sit back and write a haiku.

“Above the moutains haze, fall asleep as I satgaze, lost in the nature’s maze. ”

And organically wander with no destination in mind. 

HOW TO: Respect Your Mother

This is mother nautre.

You need to respect your mother.

Consider picking up litter you find along the trail. The rule is pack out anything you pack in. 

You should never step on anything. You can step arround. 

Stacking stones is simply vandalism. Don’t do it. It can damage the animal ecosystem. You never know what critters are laying beneath.

You should always be kind to mother nature, and never play loud sounds outdoors. Let her sounds prevail.

By protecting and celebrating the ourdoors, we can find the harmony with nature.

HOW TO: Nature on the Daily

Going to the outdoors can be daunting.

You don’t need to go kayaking down a 20 foot waterfall to connect with nature. 

You can interact with nature daily on the smallest scale.

Notice the small things in your daily routines, like that plant in the parking lot you’ve walked by a thousands of times. Or those birds that fly overhead everyday at 5pm. Start giving them each names and spot their unique differences. Take amoment to sit outside and stare at a tree. Litsening to the leaves rustle in the wind.

Weekly, go for a stroll in a nearby park or public ourdoor space. 

Monthly, go for a day hike, maybe something a little more rigorous.

Yearly, visit a national park or special place you’ve always wanted to experience. Spend multiple days there, hiking and taking in nature, away from the urban city.

Let’s recap the nature pyramid.

Daily, notice the natural world that surrounds you.

Weekly, visit public outdoor space.

Monthly, plan a day hike close to where you live.

Yearly, visit that special outdoor destination.

By appreciating our surroundings and finding nature everywher, you will improve your wellbeing.

So get out there and let nature soothe you.
