Are you listening?

The Lord came and stood there, calling as at the other times, “Samuel! Samuel!”
Then Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”   1 Samuel 3:10
Hearing the voice of God takes patience…it takes being intentional about listening…and it takes an open heart to understand His calling and direction.  If you break it down even further, it takes a belief in Christ, a belief that God provides through your relationship with Christ, and believing that God does continually speak to us!  In the story of the calling of young Samuel, it wasn’t until the Lord spoke to Samuel for the fourth time that Samuel finally realized and understood what was happening.  Once he acknowledged that it was the voice of God, through the help of Eli, he made himself available and open to hearing God’s direction.  We need to be open to God speaking to us directly within our hearts, but also through the voice of others, but it starts with knowing that God wants to be in constant relationship with us, and He continually speaks…but are we listening?
