I keep seeing takes that JC and WWX's relationship was always doomed to failure and like. No? Any ONE of the relationships from the massacre of lotus pier to nightless city could have easily been the end of a relationship between two adults who were also significantly better adjusted and had access to therapy. A world where WRH doesn't yearn for world domination is a world of many terrible family dinners but they're still very much a family

It drives me nuts because their story is in fact the story of overcoming so many obstacles with the power of love until they careen face first into Yanli's death. Wei Wuxian fucks off to the burial mounds and Jiang Cheng is still like "Wei Wuxian, a person who should see my sister in her wedding robes and choose her son's courtesy name." Wei Wuxian kills Jin Zixuan and Jiang Cheng is still refusing to join in with the other sect leaders while they're swearing their oath! Wei Wuxian, overcome with grief, misery and anguish and making a whole bunch of choices he will regret the second he calms down still doesn't attack Yunmeng Jiang! I mean, depending on what version of the story you're going with eventually he gets there but! It takes so much! They try really hard and they love each other a lot, even when they don't know how to show it.

#Jiang Cheng #also yes they have different ideals and priorities but #1) it is actually good to have people who disagree with you around you sometimes #1a) we see in the second life that Wei Wuxian has actually come to agree with Jiang Cheng about some of the more practical aspects of #politics and reputation building #these are still not things he would ever sacrifice his ideals for #but they ARE things he pays more attention to in situations where he does not have to choose #which puts him in a better position overall!#1b) I feel like it is blatantly obvious how having someone with Wei Wuxian's perspective continuing to influence jc would be good for like #a bunch of people #2) they do still mostly want the same things?#like in a perfect world they both want to protect their people and also do good #especially as kids #Jiang Cheng cares way more about one of these things than the other #but it's on his list if he's not in a position where he feels like he has to choose there isn't even a conflict to begin with #if he's not facing what he thinks is an existential threat to his entire people and culture you can probably budge him
