you stare at him in disbelief, eyebrows furrowing almost instantly. do you trust him? of course not. you do not even trust yourself most days, let alone trust the stranger your father is trying to sell you off to without so much as a second thought. of course, he is handsome and perhaps you are staring for another reason as well, but it does not change the fact you do not know him well enough to trust you. and yet, when pink lips part to say so... nothing comes out. perhaps there is a chance you do trust him, but only for you do not care what he thinks or says. it is a lot easier to trust a stranger than your own family / your own cousin! however, you do not say so either, instead letting out a scoff. ❝ what does it matter if i trust you or not? that has absolutely nothing to do with anything. frankly, what type of question is that? ❞

yes, he really does.

he often acts like he doesn't notice it just bc.... a) its ryan and b) on the off chance he's wrong he doesn't wanna embarrass himself or dylan, but honestly if he or anyone were to see the smile pulling at his face when he turns away or dylan just is not looking... like its obvious! and in his own ryan way? he's absolutely flirting back too each time

simplicity. ease. comfort. while the history between them was rocky, jackie had always found a certain serenity & peace of mind when she was with michael. the past hadn't defined them as much as it bonded them. while they both had their troubles & the pair was in definite need of space at times, that didn't change the way she felt. when things were good between them, they were really good. she felt like she was at home when he was around. that kind of love doesn't just fade, it evolves. they may not be the same as they'd always been, but whatever they were now ----- it was better.

the changes they'd gone through made a reconnection feel possible. the distance & challenges helped them both in many ways jackie couldn't have imagined before. back then she was always so certain that letting him go would mean losing him forever. & even when her trust was broken & she felt their relationship sour, it felt impossible to call it quits. she was terrified of not getting her happily ever after with him like she'd always hoped. but she did. & they separated. & now she felt more confident than ever with him by her side. it was like a point had been proven, the groundwork was built, & the future felt bright again.

all of those feelings rushed jackie as she felt his arm slide across her shoulders, firmly keeping her by his side. normally it might be a little embarrassing having a man step up for her like that, & she considered telling him that she could handle this herself ----- but truthfully, she didn't want to. it felt good to know he still cared this much. she felt safe & protected & as if she was being chosen for once. especially now, while they were inbetween knowing that they want to be together & an ambiguous friendship, she felt like he was saying he chose her. no matter what she wanted them to be. it felt like real respect. something she'd been craving for a long time.

leaning into the touch, jackie made the choice to place her hand atop his, giving a final look at the man who tried dropping lame lines on her. she wasn't going to entertain it anymore, she'd gotten what she wanted. michael stepping up for her & being by her side was all she really needed. " jealous much ? you know i don't date guys with bleached hair. it's like, hello, i can see your eyebrows. you're not fooling anybody. " her head tilted upwards to look at him more clearly, smiling to herself as she noted that even if that man was hot, like supermodel hot, she'd still place her hand on michaels.
