It’s been a while since I’ve talked about @2000adcomic here. Gonna try to do that more regularly starting with the latest Regened issue. Yesterday I was in the mood for some recent @insta2000ad with some old school feel. So I read the second Regened collection. I actually received this weeks @insta2000ad prog this week! The first of this year’s four all-ages Regened progs, once again this felt less “just for kids” and more classic 2000 AD. Except for the Cadet Dredd story and the Future Shock, this featured all-new stories, although most with connections to classic strips. I would love to see them all return at some point, but I have a particular enthusiasm for Mayflies. I’m a sucker for Mike Carroll’s writing, Simon Coleby’s art and stories set in the Rogue Trooper universe and this features all three. Thanks to my stint in Instagram jail for liking too many of the photos on my feed, I haven’t posted about @insta2000ad for a couple of progs. I’m gonna skip ahead to the latest one, the final all-ages Regened issue for the year. Once again, it felt like classic early 2000 AD, appropriate for younger readers but satisfying for long-term readers like myself. My wife was particularly excited to see a dinosaur on the cover! I was kind of sad that all the strips featured classic characters, rather than done of the strips that have been created for previous Regened issues with new characters. Still, the strips were all really good, and I’m not upset to see work from folks like Paul Cornell here, or another visit to Rogue Trooper’s Nu Earth. And I’m particularly excited to see that, while each episode is self-contained, it feels like @cavanscottwriter’s Anderson strip (a particular favorite character of mine) seems to be building to something bigger. I’m ok with the quarterly schedule of these special issues, but I’d be ok if they appeared even more frequently. So it turns out that I really love the all-ages Regened issues of @insta2000ad. Apparently, they’re big sellers as well. This issue seemed particularly special, with only one story—Cadet Dredd—featuring an all-ages version of a classic character. Otherwise, we got continuations of stories from previous Regened issues, like Finder & Keeper, new original concepts like Department K by Rory McConville and @pauljasonholden (it’s a Dreddworld story but with new characters) and the wonderful Pandora Perfect by the slways fantastic @hotelfred and Brett Parson, and a really good Future Shock. I look forward to 2000 AD every week, but I don’t mind that flow interrupted every quarter with a Regened issue. I also wouldn’t mind seeing those Regened stories more often, as long as it’s not at the expense of regular 2000 AD.
