Revolution on Wheels: Honda Unveils the 2024 Prologue, Shaping the Future of Electric Travel from Our Auto Expert on Vimeo.
In a world constantly on the move towards greener, more sustainable living, the arrival of the 2024 Honda Prologue this spring marks a significant milestone in the electric vehicle (EV) evolution. Honda, a name synonymous with innovation and reliability in the automotive industry, is steering into the future with its latest all-electric SUV, offering a blend of style, performance, and cutting-edge technology that promises to electrify the market.
For three decades, Honda has been pioneering the path to electrification, beginning with early developments leading to the launch of the Fit EV in 2011 and the Clarity EV in 2017. The Prologue, however, is not just another addition to Honda's electric lineup; it represents a bold leap forward with an expected EPA range rating of 300 miles on a full charge, setting a new standard for EVs.
Set to be available in early 2024, with pre-sale activities kicking off later this year, the Prologue boasts an enticing starting Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) in the upper $40,000s. This price point, especially before potential government incentives or tax credits, positions the Prologue as a compelling choice for consumers eager to transition to electric mobility.
The Prologue will roll out in three trim levels – EX, Touring, and Elite – ensuring a fit for various lifestyles and budgets. It's designed to cater to the tech-savvy driver, featuring a tech-rich cabin complete with standard Google built-in, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto™ compatibility. Prospective buyers will have the choice between single-motor (front-wheel-drive) and dual-motor (all-wheel-drive) configurations, catering to different driving preferences and needs.
Safety is a paramount concern for Honda, and the Prologue aims to set new benchmarks with aspirations for IIHS Top Safety Pick+ and NHTSA 5-star ratings. It introduces an array of advanced safety features, including the Honda Sensing® suite, Rear Cross Traffic Braking, and Blind Zone Steering Assist, promising peace of mind for drivers and passengers alike.
Crafted on a state-of-the-art electric vehicle platform, the Prologue's design, led by Honda's Los Angeles team, exudes a neo-rugged style complemented by the largest wheelbase in its class. The spacious interior offers up to 136.9 cubic feet of space, ensuring comfort and convenience for all occupants.
Charging the Prologue is designed to be as seamless as the driving experience itself, with three charging packages including options like a Home Charging Station and public charging credits. Furthermore, the battery's capability to recharge 65 miles of range in about 10 minutes with DC fast charging highlights the practicality and readiness of the Prologue for everyday life and beyond.
Honda's ambitious electrification strategy aims to introduce 30 new EVs globally by 2030, with a vision of achieving 100% zero-emission vehicle sales by 2040. The Prologue is not just a vehicle; it's part of a comprehensive charging network in North America, targeting 30,000 charge points at 1,350 charging stations by 2030, underscoring Honda's commitment to a sustainable future.
With specific model pricing ranging from $47,400 for the Prologue EX to $57,900 for the Elite variant, before destination charges and potential incentives, Honda is setting the stage for an electrified future. The 2024 Honda Prologue is not just another electric vehicle; it's a declaration of Honda's vision for a cleaner, greener, and more connected world on wheels. As this electric marvel prepares to hit the roads, it signals a new era of travel, blending eco-consciousness with the thrill of driving.

Best Family used cars under $15,000
Vehicle sales hit a record low in April as most Americans stayed home and countless dealerships closed due to the corona virus crisis. But as a number of businesses begin to open, those who are in need of a vehicle may find that this may be a good time to shop.
A used vehicle purchase, in particular, is something to consider. Buying used allows you to get more features for your money when compared to a new car. The hardest part is finding a good one.
To help out, our experts have highlighted five used cars under 15000 below we will discuss in depth.
 1-KIA SOUL
Few vehicles can match the personality you get from a Kia Soul. This little hatchback has won over car shoppers with its quirky design, spacious interior, and long list of standard features such as Bluetooth connectivity and, in later years, Apple Car Play and Android Auto smartphone compatibility.
The fact that such a wide range of model years is available for an average price under $15,000 makes the Soul an anomaly. Shoppers should have little trouble finding the exact features they want to fit their budget. On the downside, the Soul’s ride quality can be a little harsh at times, and its fuel economy is below average for a small hatchback.
 2-Chevrolet Cruze
Average used price: $12,643-$14,601
After a significant refresh in 2016, the Chevrolet Cruze emerged sleeker than ever. Available in sedan and hatchback layouts, the four-door Cruze offers a myriad of standard and optional features for model years 2017–2019, and comes with a 153-hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine or a 137-hp 1.6L turbo-diesel four-cylinder. In vibrant colors like Kinetic Blue, Orange Burst, and Cajun Red, the Cruze is more than practical—it's a fun car to own under $12000
Look for standard features on the 2017-2019 Cruze base models such as:
·         Seven-inch touch screen
·         Apple Car Play and Android Auto capability
·         USB port (two on 2019 models)
·         Cloth seating surfaces
·         Four-speaker audio system
Tumblr media
3-Honda Accord
Average used price: $13,905-$15,815
The versions of the Honda Accord sedan that fall into this price range are from 2015 and 2016, meaning they have since been replaced by a newer Accord that debuted in 2018. But the Accord has been a regular on “Best of the Year” lists for a reason, and these models are no exception.
Accords from this period have smooth and powerful engines combined with a roomy interior and a comfortable ride. Standard features include dual-zone climate control and a rearview camera. Picking one of the more loaded trim levels such as the EX-L also gets you leather upholstery and more advanced safety and technology features, you can find more also with us if you looking for best used cars under 15000.
 4-NISSAN ROGUE
Average used price: $11,830-$15,414
It’s harder to find a quality SUV model model 2014 to 2016 at this price . But the Nissan Rogue strikes a nice balance of attributes that should please small SUV shoppers. It boasts a roomy interior and a smooth feel on the road. You can find used Rogues with an optional third row of seats, allowing you to seat up to seven people in a pinch, or a configurable rear cargo space that makes securing cargo a breeze.
This era of Rogue also offers a decent number of optional safety features such as a surround-view parking camera system. Drawbacks include lethargic acceleration and real-world fuel economy that rarely matches the EPA’s estimates. But this spacious SUV packs in a lot of value.

TEST OF THE 2019 TOYOTA CAMRY MORE THAN JUST RELIABLE
TEST OF THE 2019 TOYOTA CAMRY MORE THAN JUST RELIABLE
Tumblr media
TEST OF THE 2019 TOYOTA CAMRY MORE THAN JUST RELIABLE
More beautiful than ever, new Camry remains The 2019 Toyota Camry is a must-have family sedan that is difficult to compete with if you consider its reputation cast in concrete. But beware, it is a solid reputation but if you find yourself in a segment neglected by large numbers of consumers, missing for the most fertile terrain of SUVs, survival is not guaranteed.
Tumblr media
TEST OF THE 2019 TOYOTA CAMRY MORE THAN JUST RELIABLE
But give back to Caesar ... Toyota has always managed to make its vehicle attractive and pleasing to the masses, and that's why you necessarily know someone around you driving a Camry. Perhaps because of market trends leaning towards utility models, the company also realized that reliability was not enough. But this latest generation of the model is really more attractive, standing out from its competition with a bolder and more athletic style than ever before. Toyota has divided its range into nine trim levels with sportier versions including the SE, XSE and XSE V6 which have a slightly different design from the rest of the range. We find on these versions a more aggressive calender, for example. Toyota also offers quieter versions with a more stretched grille as we found on the vehicle we drove, the XLE (also available in hybrid).
Tumblr media
TEST OF THE 2019 TOYOTA CAMRY MORE THAN JUST RELIABLE
The Camry XLE receives a front-wheel drive system with the Traction Control System (TRAC), as well as the Navigation Package (priced at $ 2740). There's a panoramic sunroof, automatic two-zone climate control, and 18 "aluminum wheels (with the Navigation Package, or 17" wheels). This eighth generation of the Camry introduced for the first time in 2017 has been embellished and took advantage of small changes to renew its appeal, although we do not speak here of radical changes. Everything is built on Toyota's new modular platform (TNGA), which is shared with the Toyota Corolla 2020. A comfortable and well-thought-out interior The XLE version I was able to test is quite luxurious on the inside and that's where we tick when compared to the entry-level finishes which are still far less luxurious than the more expensive versions. This "luxury" design for the XLE may well be the competitive edge for the 2019 Camry. The cabin of our model was composed of an elegant beige leather which makes this Toyota inviting and comfortable.
Tumblr media
TEST OF THE 2019 TOYOTA CAMRY MORE THAN JUST RELIABLE
Although we may have to complain about the dashboard that lacks some inspiration, we welcome Toyota's effort to give this general-purpose car a distinctive atmosphere and, among other things, wood finishes that the we found before only among luxury brands. The door openings are wide and the thresholds easy to cross, as one is entitled to expect from a Toyota sedan. Once seated in the cabin of the Camry space is quite generous - again, not surprising, given the main purpose of this model. The Camry remains a large sedan and its folded chest offers a large cargo space, admittedly less than some competitors, but it even gets a good rating. That's one of the reasons it sells so well. The interior is ergonomic. There are many small storage well organized to keep what you want to keep nearby like the wallet, phone and other essentials.
Tumblr media
TEST OF THE 2019 TOYOTA CAMRY MORE THAN JUST RELIABLE
There are charging ports and USB connectors, but also a stereo JBL, a Wifi point, a 7.0-inch touchscreen interface Entune 3.0 for central control series and also available in improved version for the XLE and the XSE (this is called an 8.0-inch screen). Competent and fast, Entune remains a little difficult to grasp. It takes time to sort orders and we do not always find quickly what we want - which is problematic for impatient people like me. CarPlay yes, Android Auto no Among the most notable new features, there is Apple CarPlay, now includes series; unfortunately Android Auto is still not present at the time when it becomes commonplace.   Safety remains one of the most important aspects of the Camry, which remains one of the most well-equipped mid-size sedans in terms of equipment and features. Each model benefits from the Toyota Safety Sense package that includes a collision alert, automated braking, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning with steering assistance, or adaptive cruise control. Toyota's decision to make Series Assist technologies across the range needs to be highlighted and commended.
Overall, we find in Camry XLE a surprising interior for a vehicle of this category. It is a nice cabin overall, well organized and embellished with touches of upscale carefully thought without claiming excessive luxury. The irony, however, is that its high quality makes it hard to release the basic versions, which they do a little hard ...
Tumblr media
TEST OF THE 2019 TOYOTA CAMRY MORE THAN JUST RELIABLE
Mechanical and fuel consumption The XLE has a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 203 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque, an increase of 28 horsepower and 16 lb-ft of torque compared to the outgoing model. That's good, but not as exciting as the V6's sportier version of the 301 hp model with 267 lb-ft of torque. Anyway, they are beautiful powers compared to the previous model. The engine works in conjunction with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Consumption level is found for the XLE an average of 8.5 / 6.1 / 7.4 per 100 km (city / road / combined). These figures are impressive for a sedan that does not benefit from any electrical support for the powertrain. The problem is that I never got close to this performance during my week of driving, which took place early in the spring when there were still some last traces of snow on the roads. It is true that I did a lot more urban road than highway, but still, my combined total was 9.6L / 100 km.
Tumblr media
TEST OF THE 2019 TOYOTA CAMRY MORE THAN JUST RELIABLE
On the road The Camry is satisfactory for a "normal" driving without any craze or haste. The engine is economical and the transmission quite responsive to not feel it. The engine is neither noisy nor intrusive if it is spared, but out of his comfort zone it is heard. It is not as responsive as the similar power engine found in the Honda Accord, the rival of the Camry, or in the Nissan Altima. For those who prioritize the silence of the engine even during moments of aggression, they will find their happiness elsewhere. The steering is weighted although I found the brake pedal soft and a bit too sensitive for my taste, but the Sport mode makes them more powerful. The chassis raises the level of the Camry which is slightly more entertaining in the turns and the little athleticism that is found is largely due to the new platform. Several driving modes are available to the driver including Normal, Sport and Eco. We find the buttons that go from one to another just next to the gear lever. Going into Eco mode is ideal for a light and economical driving which fits perfectly to the Camry's personality. Overall, the Camry is a little stiffer and has never been so fun to drive and it keeps its reliability for everyday use. It is a sedan configured for comfort and economy, do not ask him more. It turns out that I recently had the opportunity to drive the Honda Accord Touring version, and I was amazed at how much this sedan is dynamic in its driving compared to the Camry. If you are looking for a classic family sedan, this latest Camry will be one of the best options. But if you want punch, then there ... Price Side Our XLE model costs $ 36,645, before additional charges. Prices range from $ 26,590 for the base L model and $ 41,190 for the XLE Hybrid Camry. If the performance of the Camry is a little pale compared to its more competitive competitors like the Honda Accord or the Mazda6, it remains comfortable and up to our expectations. If we ignore some mistakes, and if we take into account its largely improved exterior design, it is a real renewal for the new generation. It is therefore new horizons that open to the Camry that can now be chosen for its attractive look and not just for its legendary ratio / quality price with unparalleled reliability. WE love - Successful exterior design  - Spacious interior  - Premium high-end finishes  - Apple CarPlay standard  - Comfortable ride We like less - The quality of mediocre materials for lower finishes  - No Android Auto  - Lack of sports reflexes from Blogger https://ift.tt/2Mr5FPv via IFTTT

Every car must have a gearbox because this component sends engine power to the drivetrain. It tells the wheels when to drive forward or backward. It is a bit more complicated and we explain the details in detail in our manual.
An automatic transmission shifts gears based on engine speed and other factors. In a manual transmission, the driver must use a clutch and a shift lever to change gears.
Manual transmission
2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1
A manual transmission is also called a gear lever, and that says it all – the driver literally uses a gear lever to change gears. Your father's first car may have had a gearshift lever mounted on the steering column or dashboard, but in a modern car, the gearshift lever is almost always mounted vertically on the center console and connected to the transmission by a linkage.
To change gears, a clutch disc between the engine and transmission must be released using a third pedal on the left side of the brake. Let go of the clutch, engage the desired gear and switch the clutch on again. If you engage the clutch too slowly from a standing start, the disc will wear prematurely, and if you engage it too quickly, the engine will stall.
Learning the shift lever takes a little, but it's rewarding and much easier than it sounds. When you drive a joystick, you feel a connection to your car that is difficult to reproduce with an automatic transmission. In addition, drivers who can operate a manual transmission can drive practically any type of car anywhere in the world – even in countries where renting an automatic is easier said than done.
Three-speed manual transmissions were common in the 1940s, 1950s, and even 1960s; The original Ford Mustang was equipped as standard with a three-speed. Technical departments added gears as technology improved, cars became faster, and the need for efficiency increased. The four-speed manual gearbox became the norm for decades, then five and now six. However, some high-end sports cars – like the Porsche 911 – offer seven gears.
Automatic transmission
2017 Audi R8 V10 Plus
Believe it or not, a transmission that shifts independently was once considered a luxury and has long been an expensive option on many models. Search the local classifieds and you will inevitably find that the automatic transmission is as common as power windows and air conditioners.
There are two basic types of automatic transmissions. A conventional automatic is connected to the engine via a hydraulic torque converter, and an automatic double clutch relies on it – you guessed it. good job – a pair of couplings. Both can shift without driver input. The process is carried out hydraulically or electronically by monitoring important parameters such as the position of the accelerator pedal, the speed at which the car is driving and the engine revolutions. In many automatic vehicles, the gears can be selected manually using the gear lever or the paddles mounted behind the steering wheel.
Having only two pedals offers many advantages. With this configuration, it is almost impossible to turn off the engine, and an automatic car is usually quieter and more comfortable to drive than a gear lever, especially in stop-and-go traffic. An automatic usually also requires less maintenance than a manual one, although this can vary from model to model. After all, a dual clutch automatic transmission shifts frequently in just milliseconds to achieve more power and efficiency.
Four-speed automatic transmissions have long been the norm in the industry, and a small handful of models was still a soldier with only four gears. However, six, seven and eight-speed automatic systems are common today. Honda builds a nine-speed; Ford and General Motors even have a jointly developed 10-speed transmission on the market. More gears mean better acceleration, quieter driving on the freeway and lower fuel consumption.
CVT
2017 Honda CR-V
The third main transmission type is the continuously variable transmission, a name that is usually abbreviated to CVT. Instead of gears, a CVT is based on a belt and pulley system that offers an infinite number of gear ratios. In other words, the transmission never shifts. CVTs can also be found in scooters, motorcycles and snowmobiles.
In general, a car equipped with a CVT is quieter to drive than an equivalent model with a normal automatic transmission. A CVT can also improve mileage, which explains why many hybrid cars are equipped with one. However, they are not all professionals. Some buyers find driving a car with a CVT downright bizarre because it doesn't shift. The engine tends to roar when bolted to a CVT, and cars often provide rubber-band-like acceleration.
To increase consumer acceptance, car manufacturers sometimes offer CVT-equipped cars with paddle shifters that select pre-programmed gear ratios to mimic the gears in a regular automatic. Not every driver will appreciate living with a CVT. We recommend trying it before making a purchase and ensuring that you use it in many different scenarios, not just around the block. You may not notice what it does behind the scenes to keep you moving, or you may hate it completely.
CVTs are found in countless cars on the Japanese market and are used more and more in the United States. The Subaru Crosstrek, the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport and the Honda CR-V are among the models that are equipped with a CVT. In addition, some high-performance cars – especially the Subaru WRX – offer a CVT instead of a standard automatic.
Which gear fits me?
The type of transmission your next car should have depends on two important factors: the type of vehicle you are looking at and your driving style.
If the term "driving dynamics" is not at the top of your priority list, the likelihood that an automatic or CVT system offers safety is perfect for your needs. If you consider yourself an enthusiast – and if you don't commute and commute for 45 minutes – a manual transmission car is more attractive to drive. However, you may not have a choice as many new cars only offer one type of transmission.
When you're ready to give a shift, keep in mind that the list of new manual transmissions in the U.S. is shrinking steadily. The relatively inexpensive vehicles offered with a stick include the Volkswagen GTI, the Subaru Impreza, the siblings Mazda MX-5 Miata / Fiat 124 Spider and the Toyota 86.More expensive models such as the BMW M3, the Porsche 911 and the Jaguar F-Type also comes with a manual, although you may need to order one.

The Top 19 Cars Of 2019 On Silodrome
Each year we compile a list of the most popular cars on Silodrome from the previous 12 months, we rank them in the order of their popularity, and as always, there are a few surprises in the list.
For the first time in the almost 10 year history of Silodrome the top two cars are both the same make and model (though different years), and for the first time there’s a replica in the list, albeit one with a hefty dose of Tom Cruise Hollywood magic.
We’ve compiled the list below in reverse order, and there’s an honourable mention at the bottom that almost made it into the list but missed out by just a few hundred clicks. Each vehicle has an excerpt from its original feature article on Silodrome, with a link out to read the full text if you’d like more information on it.
And now with no further ado, here’s the Top 19 Cars of 2019:
#19 – THE CUSTOM KAISER JEEP M715 PICKUP TRUCK
The custom Kaiser Jeep M715 pickup truck you see here is one of the better built modified versions we’ve seen in recent memory. It’s now powered by a General Motors 350 cu. in. (5.7 litre) V8 engine offering considerably more horsepower and torque than the original inline-6.
This V8 is mated to an Oldsmobile automatic transmission to make daily driving much easier, it also means it’s now highway drivable as well – something that can be a struggle in the original 6-cylinder 4-speed vehicle.
Up front it rides on a Dana 60 axle and there’s a Dana 70 axle in the rear, both ride on new heavy duty leaf springs and the original drum brakes are kept as is the 2 horsepower front-mounted winch. The look of the truck is transformed by the 42” Super Swamper tires designed for off-road use but still more than capable of being driven on the road.
See the original article here.
#18 – THE FUEL BESPOKE DESIGN CUSTOM BMW E9
This article was written by John Ward of Fuel Bespoke Design – the builder of this immaculate custom BMW E9 named “Von Trapp”. When possible we like to bring you the story of a vehicle in the words of the person or people who built it, so you get direct insight into their thought process and methodology.
I found a sorry looking BMW 2800 CSA in a builder’s yard in NSW, Australia – the car had no engine or transmission but did look reasonably complete otherwise. I knew it would have some rust issues, they all do, back in the day Karmann the coachbuilders BMW outsourced to didn’t really focus on rustproofing the vehicles.
Having just completed the BMW 2002 aka “The Red Baron” I had a good idea of the journey I was in for, but this time I wanted to step it up a little. The E9 is in my opinion, one of the most beautiful cars to come out of BMW so I didn’t want to mess with the aesthetics but I did want to give it a new lease of life with more than a few hidden secrets.
After a complete strip down, it was off to Redistrip for a chemical dip to take it back to bare metal as it’s so much easier to repair a stripped clean body. She was pretty bad, just about every panel would need either repair work or replacement.

  #17 – THE BYERS SR100
The 1950s America was the world leader in fibreglass kit car design and construction. The composite material must have seemed like a gift from the heavens, allowing small scale car manufacturers to create beautiful, complex body designs without needing to handcraft each car from aluminum alloy or steel – a huge time saver.
One of the leading lights of this fibreglass car movement was Jim Byers. He had previously teamed up with Dick Jones to create and build the 1953 Meteor SR1 sports car but when Jones moved interstate Byers set up on his own. He improved the design and called it the Byers SR100, each body was made of hand-laid fibreglass and designed to fit a 100 inch wheelbase.
Customers who bought a Byers SR100 body would typically either build or source their own drive train, chassis, and running gear, finishing the car off in their own garage.
The SR100 and the SR1 on which it was based were designed to accommodate the engine in a front-mid engine configuration allowing for optimal weight distribution. The fibreglass body tipped the scales at just 125 lbs, and the completed car would typically weigh in at a little over 2,000 lbs and be fitted with a V8 capable of 200+ hp and over 200 ft lbs of torque.

#16 – FERRARI 250 GT SPECIALE BY PININ FARINA
This Pinin Farina Speciale 250 GT was a masterpiece of design, vastly different from the tastefully understated 250 GT Boano. This one-off car features enclosed headlights, lavish but tasteful chrome throughout, a hood scoop to feed the V12, large vents on the side of each front fender, and an almost impossibly elegant side-profile.
Some of the car’s design features would be integrated into the series-based 250 GT Pinin Farina coupes that went into production at the end of 1957, but the Speciale remains unique.
Princess Liliane kept the car in her private collection for 10 years before gifting it to a doctor, from there it passed through a number of hands until it ended up with the current owner – who has had it for 20 years.
See the original article here.
#15 – THE 1969 BAJA PORSCHE 911
The Baja Porsche 911 project was funded by Arc Audio as it was to be their SEMA show car for the 2017 event. Far from being a stationary show car with no actual ability, the Baja Porsche 911 was built to be a highly capable off-road racer.
No corners were cut and no budgetary restrictions interfered with its construction. The original all-steel Porsche 911body was mounted to a tubular steel Baja racing chassis with a tuned 2.3 litre Volkswagen flat-four cylinder engine with four open exhausts exiting above the engine bay, and a four-speed gearbox.
VW flat-four engines have been tried and tested in desert racing for decades, the simple air-cooled motors obviously don’t need heavy liquid cooling systems – eliminating one potential point of failure. Aftermarket parts availability for high-performance VW engines is excellent, with custom builds producing 180 to 200+ hp, up from the ~39 hp they made from the factory.
See the original article here.
#14 – THE 1971 PLYMOUTH ROAD RUNNER RAPID TRANSIT
The car you see here was widely considered to be the highlight of the 1971 show cars. It was built by Chuck Miller of Styline Custom for Chrysler in 1970 and it’s characterized by its one-off body modifications including a unique front end that extended the car by 6 inches, twin hood scoops, and a tail with an unusual integrated spoiler.
Quad headlights are situated behind a steel grille with integrated headlight covers, and there are 3D vacuum-formed translucent custom Road Runner heads on each corner of the car, which led to the nickname “The Chicken Head Car”.
Under the hood you’ll find a 383 cu. in. V8 with a dual-snorkel air cleaner backed by an automatic transmission. In Road Runner specification this V8 had a 4.25 inch bore, a 3.38 inch stroke, 335 hp at 5,200 rpm, 425 ft lbs of torque 3,400 rpm, a 9.5:1 compression ratio, and a Holley 4-barrel carburettor.
See the original article here.
  #13 – MARK HAWWA’S 400 HP MAZDA RX-7
Mark’s RX-7 is a 1983 model now fitted with a rebuilt 13B rotary fitted with a GCG T35 turbocharger running 14 lbs of boost and an air-to-air intercooler. Engine management is taken care of by a Motec ECU running Bosch injectors and a Tune Flex able to run E85 or 98 octane fuel.
In its current configuration the car is putting out 400 hp at the rear wheels, this was far too much for the original differential and axle so Mark’s car has a Toyota Hilux rear axle that can get the power to the wheels without grenading itself in the process.
BC racing suspension is used and the car is fitted with an S5 gearbox, and a Group C bodykit similar to that used on the now legendary Allan Moffat car raced in Australia in-period. The car has Techno Toy control arms, tension, and lateral rods, as well as Nitto NT01 semi slick tires and Compomotive wheels.
The car is currently wearing its InFast livery for the InFast Rally, a private endurance rally that is strictly invitation only and takes place annually in Australia – typically covering over 2,000 miles in 7 days.
See the original article here.
  #12 – THE AUTECH ZAGATO STELVIO AZ1
The Autech Zagato Stelvio AZ1 is a Japanese-Italian joint project based on the underpinnings of the 280 bhp turbocharged Nissan Leopard that had been tuned by Autech – Nissan’s in-house tuning division similar to BMW’s M division or Mercedes-Benz’s AMG.
At first glance the car can be mistaken for an Aston Martin V8 Vantage Zagato of the same era, it also predated the Alfa Romeo SZ  which shared some stying cues. Unusually, the Autech Zagato Stelvio AZ1 has its front wing mirrors integrated into the body, giving the front end of the car an interesting look whilst at the same time referencing the prominent front wing mirrors that featured frequently on many Japanese cars of the ’60s and ’70s.
The joint project between Autech and Zagato kicked off in 1987, during one of the most significant booms in Japanese economic history. At the time the country was the global leader in electronics production, and a leader in automobile and motorcycle production. Products like the Sony Walkman and the Nintendo Entertainment System were dominating their respective industries and cars like the Toyota Corolla and the Honda Accord were among the best selling in the world.

#11 – THE DUNE BUGGY DRIVEN BY STEVE MCQUEEN IN THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR
The Meyers Manx dune buggy driven by Steve McQueen in the Thomas Crown Affair is undeniably one of the most famous screen cars of its era. It’s due to come up for open auction with Bonhams in a few weeks time and it’s almost certainly going to become the most valuable Meyers Manx beach buggy in history.
Steve McQueen is one of the best-known petrol head actors of the 20th century, alongside other screen icons like Paul Newman, James Brolin, and James Garner.
It isn’t common knowledge that McQueen was personally involved in the process of building the custom Meyers Manx that was used in the film. He enlisted the help of Pete Condos of Con-Ferr who had previously worked with McQueen to build his custom Jeep.
The two men laid out a specification sheet for an exceptionally fast beach buggy that a millionaire like the fictional character Thomas Crown would drive.

#10 – AN ORIGINAL AEROCAR ONE
This is one of just six original examples of the Aerocar One (some say only five were built), it’s in airworthy condition and ready to fly, and it can also be driven on the roads in the USA.
In order to own an Aerocar One you need both a driver’s license and a pilot’s license, you also need to buy both automotive and aircraft insurance, and you need to pay for both automobile registration and aircraft registration.
Still, if you’re in the market for a flying car with a value approaching $1,000,000 USD it’s doubtful that things like insurance and registration costs are going to be a concern.
See the original article here.
#9 – THE ALPHA ONE GTO DRIVEN BY TOM CRUISE IN VANILLA SKY
The Alpha One GTO is one of the better-known Ferrari 250 GTO replicas, they were based on the Datsun Z-car platform, typically the 240Z and 260Z, with some using the later 280Z.
Many owners ordered their cars as turn key vehicles from Joe Alphabet’s company which allowed them to specify a wide variety of options including Chevy V8s, uprated suspension and brakes, automatic or 5-speed manual transmissions, and an array of paint colors.
This particular Alpha One GTO is doubtless the most famous of them all, it was used in the 2001 blockbuster film Vanilla Sky with Tom Cruise behind the wheel. For car people the scenes with the 250 GTO driving around the abandoned streets of New York City were some of the most memorable in the film.
See the original article here.
  #8 – THE SNOW CRUISER – ANTARCTICA’S ABANDONED BEHEMOTH
The Snow Cruiser – Antarctica’s Abandoned Behemoth is a short documentary that gives a concise history of one of the most unusual land-based vehicles ever built.
The film uses a combination of archive video footage and still images to tell the story of the Snow Cruiser, it’s a remarkable tale of ambition and engineering that resulted in the Snow Cruiser being designed and built in Chicago between 1937 and 1939 before being driven on public roads to Boston, over 1,000 miles away.
In Boston it would be loaded onto a ship and taken to Antarctica by way of the Panama Canal and New Zealand. I won’t go into what happened next as I don’t want to ruin the film.
See the original article here.
#7 – ELEANOR FROM GONE IN 60 SECONDS
The 2000 film Gone in 60 Seconds was a big-budget remake of a 1974 H.B. Halicki film of the same name, which featured a similar plot, plenty of chase scenes, and of course, Eleanor. The 1974 film was made on a far smaller budget and it’s well worth a watch if you have the time. Of course the remake from 2000 was a big budget Hollywood film featuring an all-star cast including Nicolas Cage, Angelina Jolie, Giovanni Ribisi, Christopher Eccleston, Robert Duvall, Vinnie Jones, and Will Patton.
The modern Gone In 60 Seconds was made with a budget of 90 million, it received mixed reviews from critics however the public loved the film, and it was a significant commercial success – taking in over a quarter of a billion dollars at the box office globally.
Some have attributed the surge in interest surrounding restomod vehicles to Eleanor, Chip Foose’s dream Shelby GT500 evocation, and it’s certainly likely. Many restomods follow the styling cues laid out by Foose with Eleanor, and American muscle cars like the Mustang are popular targets for restomodders.

#6 – MICKEY THOMPSON’S ORIGINAL CHALLENGER IV BUGGY
In 1977 Mickey Thompson (MT) set out to build one of the most technically advanced off road race vehicles ever created. While the fastest off road cars on the dirt (at the time) were Class 1 Unlimited Buggies based off of VW suspension, with a whopping 10 to 12″ of wheel travel, and 2276cc VW motors, Mickey decided to “Super Size” his ride with an American V8 and 15 to 18″ of wheel travel.
Mickey started with a chassis (known as Challenger IV or CH4) built by Smokey Allerman, who was famous for building sprint cars back then. The car looked a lot like a sprint car but the suspension was altered to get more wheel travel out of it with custom built A-arms and a 3 link rear suspension arrangement.
While the chassis was built by Allerman, Mickey had John House (MT’s crew chief), son Danny Thompson, and Bruce Parrish finish the racer and drop in a 383 stroker Chevrolet V8 engine pulled from one of his old Indy cars, along with a 2 speed Powerglide automatic transmission.

#5 – THE KEN MILES CAR FROM FORD V FERRARI
The Superformance Ford GT40 you see here is a 1966 MkII model, it was built from scratch by the team at Superformance in Irvine, California.
Rich MacDonald of Superperformance reached out to representatives at Fox Studios about the possibility of featuring the cars in the new film. He explained how historically accurate the company’s replicas are, and the filmmakers clearly agreed, as they used two of them with liveries painted to match both the black GT40 driven by Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon, as well as the memorable blue/white/red livery used on the Ken Miles and Denny Hulme car.
Unlike the original car however, this one is now fitted with a prodigious Roush 427IR V8 stroked out to 511 cu. in., now producing 604 hp and 572 ft lbs of torque. Looking inside the car it’s clear that Superformance went to great lengths to ensure that every detail was tended to in order to make it as authentic as possible, the toggle switches and screws, the interior materials, and the other small details are exemplary.
The car you see here is the one used by Christian Bale (and the stunt drivers) in the film, it’s been signed by Ken Miles’ 1966 crew chief, Charlie Agapiou, and Peter Miles, Ken Miles’ son, and it’s been displayed at numerous red carpet events alongside the stars of the film, on ESPN, and on CBS Sunday Morning.

#4 – THUNDERBIRD 2 – THE BEST CAMPER VAN ON EARTH
The Thunderbird 2 you see here is a 100% road-legal conversion with a bespoke metal body based on a 1994 Toyota Previa (2438cc petrol/automatic). It has eight windows at the front, the two in front of the driver have windscreen wipers, and there are two circular ports on either side.
Entrance and exit is by gull wing doors on either side with gas struts and a pull handle, the interior is color-matched to the exterior, and it has all the requited headlights, indicators, and brake lights to keep the boys in blue happy.
In the back you’ll find a a Thunderbirds themed bed and a roof-mounted DVD system (so you can watch Thunderbirds obviously) and your view outside is provided by the circular portholes.
It might not be the most practical camper van for sale but you’d have no problem at all making friends when you roll into the campground. Alternatively, it’d make an excellent novelty AirBnB listing.

#3 – PORSCHE SPEEDSTER PROJECT CAR
As far as we can tell, this Porsche Speedster is the best Porsche project car for sale in the world at this moment. I know that’s a big claim to make, however this is an authentic numbers-matching Speedster – one of the most important Porsches of its era. It’s being offered with no reserve out of the private Shook Family collection in Corpus Christi, Texas.
The Speedster is in running, driving, and stopping condition. It clearly needs a lot of work but there’s been increasing interest in recent years from enthusiasts and collectors in cars that are totally original and unrestored – as that authenticity is becoming increasingly rare. You can restore a car as many times as you like, but it’s only an unrestored original once.
The story behind the creation of the Porsche Speedster is fascinating. It was conceived not by Porsche but by the legendary Austrian/American auto importer named Max Hoffman. As a European who had immigrated to the United States, Hoffman had unique insight into how to talk to the European automakers, and he had insight into what Americans really wanted to drive.

#2 – THE ORIGINAL STEVE MCQUEEN BULLITT MUSTANG
This is the hero car from the 1968 Steve McQueen film “Bullitt”, it’s a Highland Green 1968 Ford Mustang GT and since the film was released this car has become one of the most famous Mustangs in history, possibly even the most famous outright.
Before filming began, two Highland Green 1968 Ford Mustang GTs were supplied by Ford who were hoping to capitalize on a little almost-free publicity from the film. Bullitt has been sending Mustang buyers to Ford now for over 50 years, including a number of official Ford Mustang Bullitt special models with the most recent being in 2018, so it was undoubtably a good investment.
Interestingly, McQueen partnered up with real-life San Francisco Inspector Dave Toschi, it was Toschi who inspired McQueen to wear a shoulder holster, and Toschi later partner with Inspector Bill Armstrong as the lead San Francisco investigators of the Zodiac Killer murders. These murders began shortly after the cinematic release of Bullitt.

  #1 – PATRICK DEMPSEY’S 420 HP 1965 FORD MUSTANG FASTBACK
In 2008 racing driver (and actor) Patrick Dempsey worked closely with the team at Panoz to develop what he believed was the perfect 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback.
The project had no limit on price, the key was to build the greatest custom ’65 Fastback of all time. By the time the car was complete over 3,900 hours of labour had been spent on it, as well as over $300,000 USD.
Dempsey is best known for his role as neurosurgeon Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd in the television series Grey’s Anatomy and his slew of leading film roles, but in the motor racing community he’s known as a genuinely talented racing driver in the vein of Paul Newman.
In interviews Dempsey has said he’d quit acting and race full time if he could, he’s competed at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Rolex 24 at Daytona, and Ensenada SCORE Baja 1000 off-road race.

HONORABLE MENTION : THE SHELBY DE TOMASO P70
Carroll Shelby wanted the new car to be fitted with the lightest possible 7 litre V8, de Tomaso and his team believed they could stretch the capacity of the 289 cu. in. (4.7 litre) Ford V8 to 427 cu. in. (7 litres). Sadly this turned out to be physically impossible as there was insufficient room to increase capacity by boring the cylinders and fitting a stroker crank.
The original design of the body by Peter Brock had been sent from Shelby in California to the coachbuilder in Italy, Shelby wasn’t impressed with the finished product so he sent Brock to Italy to personally supervise the building of a new body with the team at Carrozzeria Fantuzzi, a Modena-based coachbuilder.
Just as Brock was in the process of fitting the completed body to the second iteration of the Vallelunga-derived chassis he received a call from California, it was Carroll telling him to get on a plane and come home. The project was being cancelled as Shelby had just been hired by Ford to run a competition campaign fielding some new sports racing cars at endurance races like the 24 Hours of Le Mans, fielding a racing car called the Ford GT40.

2019 Honda Ridgeline AWD Black Edition First Test
The 2019 Honda Ridgeline marches on in the midsize pickup truck segment that welcomes two new players this year—the Ford Ranger and the Jeep Gladiator. How will the Ridgeline stack up? Before we throw it in the ring, we thought it’d be a good idea to get reacquainted with Honda’s pickup.
The second-generation Ridgeline hasn’t changed much since its introduction in model year 2017. Highlights include new colors, more USB ports, streamlined trim levels (from 12 to nine), and the addition of a moonroof and power-sliding rear window to the midlevel RTL and RTL-T models. We got our hands on a very loaded Ridgeline AWD Black Edition with a hefty $44,465 price tag. That said, the Black Edition is essentially an appearance package for the Ridgeline RTL-E ($42,965), and a decently equipped RTL-T is priced at $39,945. A base, front-drive Ridgeline RT can be had for $31,035.
Honda’s ubiquitous 3.5-liter V-6 carries over, sending 280 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque to a six-speed automatic. Not surprisingly, its straight-line performance numbers are nearly identical to the 2017 Ridgeline AWD RTL-E we last tested, running to 60 mph in 7.2 seconds and the quarter mile in 15.6 seconds (compared to 7.3 and 15.7 seconds).
“A little poky from a stop,” road test editor Chris Walton noted about our 2019 Ridgeline tester, though “upshifts at redline are reasonably smooth/fast.”
It’s quicker than the top-selling 2018 Toyota Tacoma we recently tested (7.6 seconds to 60 mph), but it lags behind the 2019 Chevrolet Colorado and 2019 Ford Ranger, which posted 0–60 times of 6.4 and 6.8 seconds, respectively. Both domestics have stronger engines and gearboxes with more cogs (and shorter first gears), and they aren’t much heavier than the Honda. Our Ridgeline tester tipped the scales at 4,475 pounds, just 11 and 75 pounds lighter than the Chevy and Ford.
With an EPA rating of 18/25 mpg city/highway, the Ridgeline AWD barely edges out the Colorado V6 4WD at 17/24 mpg. A drop in the bucket in times of relatively cheap gas. A comparable Tacoma returns 18/22 mpg; the Ranger hasn’t been rated as of this writing.
The Ridgeline’s unibody chassis remains an outlier among its body-on-frame peers. If you value ride quality above anything else, the Honda can’t be beat. It’s noticeably smoother around town and on the highway and is much more controlled through corners. “Very different than the others,” testing director Kim Reynolds noted after posting a 27.7-second lap around the figure-eight course. “Steering quality is much better including turn-in.” That said, the Colorado’s and Ranger’s handling disadvantages on the figure eight were essentially erased by their stronger powertrains, with the Chevy beating the Honda by 0.1 second and the Ford coming in at a tie.
Part of the Ridgeline’s appeal is its ability to combine car-like road manners and its ability to do work that trucks are expected to do. Our tester’s max payload rating of 1,499 pounds is right there with the Colorado and Ranger we tested, and almost 300 pounds more than the Tacoma we had on hand (though we should note that payload ratings vary more with the body-on-frame trucks depending on configuration).
Meanwhile, the Ridgeline is capped to tow 5,000 pounds, about 1,400 to 2,500 pounds less than the aforementioned three trucks. Although we didn’t do a standardized tow evaluation this time around, we did praise the Ridgeline’s ability to tow a 3,000-pound trailer in a previous test.
The Ridgeline’s truck bed is a showcase of Honda’s clever tricks. The lockable in-bed trunk (with 7.3 cubic feet of cargo) is unique to the segment, and the super handy tailgate swings down and is also side-hinged, giving you closer and easier access to your payload. The available in-bed speaker system is pretty trick, as well, and the bed is also fairly spacious. Though not as deep as its competitors, it does provide 50 inches of space between the wheelhouses, which is about 5 inches more than the Ford and Chevy and 8 inches wider than the Toyota.
Another highlight is the rear passenger area. Not only is the floor completely flat, but the seat bottoms and support frames fold up and away to maximize cargo space. It’s simply cavernous compared to its competitors. Unfortunately the Ridgeline appears to be last in line for Honda’s infotainment upgrade, so you won’t find the sharper and more intuitive interface (nor a volume knob) found in other models.
Interior fit and finish is excellent, storage solutions are scattered throughout, and the front center armrests (straight from the Pilot) are a nice touch. In all, the Ridgeline still charms us with thoughtful engineering, smooth ride, and decent capability. But with new and fresh competition on the way, the Ridgeline could benefit from a few tweaks that’ll hopefully make their way to a midcycle refresh soon.

Some steered the bottom model can go with a one.5 liter turbo-four sensible for around two hundred power unit. A larger 2.0 l turbo-four with up to three hundred power unit is additionally a true risk. each these engines are expected to be mated to a half dozen speed manual within the base configuration and solely to the front wheels. an all-wheel-drive model is additionally terribly seemingly. really we tend to believe Honda can supply the all-wheel-drive so as to permit the Prelude to achieve a rather jam-packed market. this can seemingly be offered solely with the cars equipped with an automatic which can seemingly be their new ten-speed shell that evidenced to be one in all the quickest and a lot of responsive automatic in its category.

First Drive: 2019 Acura RDX
WHISTLER, Canada — “Beautiful British Columbia” is what it says on the license plates, and this is truth in advertising. The gorgeous forested mountains of the Canadian southwest were chosen for the press preview of the new 2019 Acura RDX, a vehicle said to be absolutely critical for the marque—but then again, that seems to say that about every new car it launch nowadays. This time, however, the Acura folks are being as truthful as BC’s license plates.
Though it won’t come out and say it, the RDX must be something of a sore spot for Honda’s luxury division. It’s one of the strongest-selling models in the Acura lineup—not to mention the entire compact luxury SUV segment—and yet it’s also one of its most conservative offerings. Acura wants to be known for advanced technology, such as its sophisticated Super-Handling All-Wheel-Drive system and the nifty Sport Hybrid drivetrain, and yet the current RDX employs a traditional V-6 engine and a low-tech, low-cost all-wheel-drive system. And so the RDX’s designers were given a delicate mission: Bring the car up to date without alienating existing customers.
The 2019 RDX rides on a new Acura-exclusive platform and wears a new design motif outside and in. It boasts an innovative control layout and a new-to-Acura turbocharged powertrain. And yet plenty remains relatively unchanged, including general size, configuration, and entry-level price point. Repeat RDX buyers will find plenty of familiar things to love, and the hope is that refugees from other brands—specifically, younger folks transitioning from a sporty sedan to an SUV—will as well.
From a driver’s perspective, the new RDX is quite good. Most recent Acura models have left me wanting in some way, but I found the RDX very satisfying to drive. Handling is a high point; the seasoned sedan drivers Acura is seeking will find the RDX’s steady ride, medium-weight heft, and lack of body roll to be utterly familiar. Still, in an era when most SUVs drive just like cars—when, from an architectural perspective, most of them are cars—the RDX manages to be slightly more car-like than its competitors. It’s a distinction as subtle as a passing breeze, and yet just as unmistakably present.
The RDX borrows its 2.0-liter turbo-four from the Honda Accord, though the engine has been modified for Acura duty. It’s rated at 272 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque, but foot-to-the-floor power isn’t as impressive as I had hoped. For most of the driving I did, however, the RDX’s engine felt right up to the task. It is also surprisingly quiet—noise suppression has never been a Honda strong point—and the full-throttle engine note toes the line between Honda’s sophisticated four-pot snarl and the deeper thrum of German 2.0Ts. (Acura uses electronic sound enhancement, which always disappoints me, though I suppose I can understand why; it’s probably best that the RDX doesn’t sound like a Civic at full tilt.) All 2019 Acura RDXs get Honda’s home-grown ten-speed automatic, a gem of a transmission that swaps its cogs unobtrusively under light throttle and yet firms up the shifts when the driver telegraphs even the slightest signs of urgency.
Super Handling All-Wheel-Drive lives up to its marketing hype, though you’d be hard-pressed to notice, the irony being that the best AWD systems are the least obtrusive. SH-AWD is a torque-vectoring system that can shift power between left and right rear wheels, and it uses this ability to improve dry-road handling by pushing power to the outside rear wheel. Acura demonstrated the system’s rear-drive bias by setting up a muddy slalom course and having the assembled autojournos run it in an RDX with stability and traction control disabled. Our brief was to go foot-to-the-floor from a dead stop, and the RDX gleefully spun its rear wheels and got itself as sideways as Lindsay Lohan on a bender. Point proven.
Still, there’s a lot more to a successful luxury vehicle than driving dynamics, and it’s in these other areas that the RDX is trying to push ahead. Take styling. Acura has chosen a design motif that is modern and attractive and yet instantly recognizable as an Acura—from the front, at least. The unadorned rear end does it no favors, however—the RDX looks like an Acura coming and a Honda going. The optional A-Spec package blacks out the RDX’s chrome trim, making it look sporty without veering off into silly. And kudos to Acura for not being afraid of bright colors: The RDX’s paint palette once again includes arrest-me red, bright blue and metallic brown.
The interior of the 2019 RDX is based on the Precision Interior Concept Acura showed on the 2017-2018 auto show circuit, and it’s a definite high point. The look is modern, mature, and purposeful. Genuine materials are all the rage nowadays, and Acura has gone nuts with genuine wood, genuine aluminum, and, in A-Spec models, genuine suede, though the leather is only genuine on three of the RDX’s four trim levels. Five interior colors are on offer, including a jazzy red offered only on A-Spec models. But the cabin’s styling is best enjoyed from the passenger’s side: Over on the left, the instrument binnacle is encased in a large slab of what appears at first glance to be Honda-grade plastic. It’s not; the driver’s dash is actually softly padded and feels great under the fingertips. Unfortunately, that’s not the first impression you get.
Making its debut on the new RDX is what Acura calls the True Touchpad Interface, which uses a touchpad on the center console to control the 10.2-inch HD display screen. Acura says the system provides the ease of a touch-screen but allows them to set the screen higher and further back, closer to the driver’s line of sight. It’s hard to pass judgment on this new interface with only a few hours’ experience; my first impression is that it’s not as easy to use as a touch-screen, but far more intuitive than Lexus’ mouse-like controller and less concentration-intensive than a dial controller.
Other interior details: Climate controls use traditional buttons and dials—thank Heaven!—and the heated and cooled seats have an automatic setting that works well. The front seats feature a pleasant pattern of stitching and piping and offer between twelve and sixteen modes of power adjustment; too bad about the lack of thigh support. Storage spaces are plentiful, though the RDX lacks a wireless phone charging pad.
Rear seat occupants fare pretty well, too. The seat is well sized and supportive, and the full-width flat floor is a nice feature. Legroom looks good on paper, but the lack of toe-space under the front seats makes it difficult to stretch out. On the upside, the standard-fit panoramic sunroof provides a spectacular view from the second row, especially in beautiful British Columbia.
Safety is also a priority for the RDX, with a full suite of driving assistance aids as standard equipment in all trim levels. The optional ELS Studio stereo system, which has four of its 16 speakers mounted in the roof, will make you fall in love with your music all over again (provided it’s on an iPhone; the RDX doesn’t offer Android Auto as the phone OS doesn’t support the new touch-pad interface). Those looking to buy American can feel good, too: Not only is the new RDX built in Ohio, with much of the content sourced from North American suppliers, but it was engineered and styled in the US as well.
Value was a highlight of the outgoing RDX, and the new version follows suit. The $38,295 starting price (including destination) is identical to a 2018 RDX with the AcuraWatch safety suite, which was optional on the old car but standard on the new one. Acura will offer the RDX in four trim levels (base, Tech, A-Spec and Advance) and while the top-end price of $48,395 is $3,200 higher than the outgoing RDX—a reasonable increase considering all the new kit—it’s still seven to ten grand cheaper than comparably equipped European rivals.
All in all, the 2019 Acura RDX is an impressive effort. It’s not easy to execute a redesign that will attract new buyers without alienating the old ones, and I think Acura has managed to walk this narrow line without losing its balance. That said, brand image is a critical factor in a luxury buyer’s purchase decision, and in this respect Acura has a long way to go—nowadays an Acura doesn’t impress the neighbors the way a Mercedes or a BMW does. But this is a problem for the marketing team and not for the RDX, which is well worthy of the hype that Acura desperately needs to create.

TESLA RECALLS 123 THOUSAND CARS AROUND THE WORLD
The American company Tesla recalls 123 thousand electric vehicles of the Model S brand all over the world. The reason lies in the details of the power steering, which are prone to corrosion, Tesla said in a message sent to customers on Thursday, March 29. The manufacturer of electric vehicles found that corrosion strikes the power steering bolts in regions with a cold climate, which in turn can complicate control. In this case, only models produced before April 2016 are subject to recall. The company intends to replace the steering parts in the recalled electric vehicles. The company Tesla, despite the growth in turnover, suffers record losses. So, in the third quarter of 2017, losses amounted to 619 million dollars – more than ever in one quarter. In addition, the company can not reach the declared production volumes of the budget model of the electric vehicle Model 3. This is reported by Deutsche Welle.

KIA SHARED ITS SALES RESULTS OF THE FIRST MONTHS OF 2018
Kia Motors Corporation has released data on global brand sales for the first 2 months of 2018. While sales in the domestic market of South Korea grew by 2.6%, global brand sales decreased by 2% For the first two months of 2018, more than 400,000 Kia vehicles have found their owners worldwide. While Korea’s sales grew by 2.6% compared to the same period in 2017 (76,110 and 74,170 vehicles in 2018 and 2017, respectively), global sales fell from 410,478 vehicles in 2017 to 402 310 for two months of 2018. The reason for this was the decline in production, due to fewer working days in February, which was the celebration of the Lunar New Year in Korea. In this regard, the supply of popular models, such as the new Rio, Stonic, etc., to foreign markets, including Ukrainian, were postponed to a later date. Thanks to the joint efforts of the distribution company Falcon-Auto and Kia Motors Corporation, the rhythm of supply of Kia cars to Ukraine will be restored in the near future. Just recently, sales of the updated Kia Sorento started, with 2/3 of the first delivery of the new items already prepaid and will go directly to the newly-made owners. It is expected to replenish the warehouse of other models. In particular, the compact crossover Kia Stonic, the new generation Kia Rio hatchback, the popular versions of Kia Sportage are available for pre-order, both from delivery and production. Since the debut in Ukraine, these cars are in high demand, therefore, as in the case of Sorento, a significant part of these cars are already “under the client.” Proceeding from this company Falcon-Auto recommends that the fans of the Kia brand do not delay the visit to the showroom and buy cars from the availability, or pre-order.

SUVs are one of the fastest growing segments in the automotive industry, which makes now the best time to put one’s best SUV foot forward. Jeep, a name more associated with offroad vehicles, broke into the SUV market with the Cherokee as far back as the 70s. But as it expanded its portfolio, adding the luxury Grand Cherokee to its roster, the Cherokee seemed to have gotten left out of the massive changes, the grand innovations, and the big splashes. And so for 2019, Jeep is giving the SUV a much-needed pampering, giving the Cherokee a new face, a new interior, and a new powertrain, all while keeping it an unmistakable part of the Jeep family.
The SUV segment is an important one for the car maker. After all, it claims to make up the largest SUV segment on the planet, with 9 million unit sold across the globe, a third of which were sold in North America. In 2017 alone, it was able to sell 1.4 million worldwide.
But while its sales were strong, the Cherokee itself seemed to have been overshadowed by its siblings. Comparing its product range to a family made of related but unique members, the Cherokee was like that awkward teenager that got left behind and needed to grow up a little bit. That growing up is happening in the 2019 Jeep Cherokee.
Jeep didn’t need to overhaul the Cherokee’s design. It already had a mold to use. For the 2019 SUV model, Jeep decided to bring the Cherokee closer to its premium SUV, the Jeep Grand Cherokee, in terms of design while still keeping its own unique identity. It inherits the Grand Cherokee’s proud-looking face, but tones down the grille a bit. The raised leading edge of the hood gives it more of a blunt shape but still retains the mature look of the luxury SUV. LED projection headlights look and perform great.
In the rear, the license plate no longer sits on the rear bumper and has been moved up to the tailgate. As expected in this segment, swiping your foot under the bumper releases the liftgate. Jeep took pains to make the trunk not only spacious but usable: its 25.8 cubic feet has been reconfigured to fit two sets of golf clubs. Should you need more room, folding down the rear seats boosts cargo capacity to 54.9 cubic feet.
Inside, Jeep continues its globetrotting with the cabin color motifs, taking inspiration from places around the globe. The Latitude and Latitude Plus sport a design patterned after Iceland’s black volcanic rocks and blue-grey ice water; the Overland’s Dark Sienna colors are, meanwhile, taken from Marrakesh’s deep browns. Whichever the trim and color, the 2019 Cherokee’s interior now delivers more streamlined controls along with greater cargo capacity.
It’s under the hood where the main changes take place, since the 2019 Cherokee also upgrades its powertrain. The Latitude, Latitude Plus, and Limited now have a base 2.4 cylinder gas engine with 180 HP and 170 lb-ft of torque. The Trailhawk and Overland now a 3.2 V6 gas engine with 271 HP, 239 lb-ft of torque, and 3,500 lbs of towing capacity as standard. Jeep’s biggest improvement, however, is its new 2-liter direct injection twin-scroll turbo gas engine, yielding 270 HP and 295 lb-ft of torque. In addition to those numbers, all trims come with electronic start-stop (ESS), an engine oil heater, and two four-wheel drive systems, three on the Trailhawk.
After spending a decent amount of time behind the wheel of the new 2.0-liter, I struggled to notice any turbo lag. Indeed it feels impressively punchy – courtesy of the additional 30 lb-ft of torque – and every bit as potent on and off the road as the V6.
Think of the Cherokee as the attainable midsize SUV capable of competing with the likes of Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4, but with the added bonus of Jeep’s off-road performance. What’s a Jeep event without some sort of off-road obstacle, right? So off-roading we went. To be fair, the automaker had selected a fairly moderate course for us and, though competitor cars were on hand for driving on the road, Jeep wasn’t allowing them to partake in the off-road course for side-by-side comparisons.
Instead, I focused on the new 2019 Cherokee Trailhawk, with its Active Drive Lock 4X4 system that allows you to lock the rear differential. Throughout the course, switching between different terrains was as tapping a couple of buttons and twisting the Selec-Terrain traction management knob.
The five Selec-Terrain traction off-road modes consist of AUTO, SNOW, SPORT, SAND/MUD, and ROCK. For the off-road portion, we stuck to the SAND/MUD and ROCK modes, which are programmed to distribute different power ratios to the front and rear axles, and allowing for various amounts of wheelspin in order to tackle uneven terrain.
Crawling through large/uneven – and often giant – boulders was a walk in the park for the new Cherokee in ROCK mode. A large section of the trail required climbing and descending an extremely steep hill, but in SAND/MUD mode the Cherokee fair glided right up and down. That’s in no small part down to its relatively large approach angle of 29.9 degrees, and departure angle of 32.2 degrees.
After completing the course, I found it impressive that there wasn’t a single scratch to be found anywhere. That probably speaks more to Jeep’s legendary off-road performance than my own trail skills.
On the road, meanwhile, the Cherokee feels nimble thanks to the all-around improvement to the drivetrain, engine configuration, and of course shedding a total of 150 pounds in weight. Jeep claims that owners can expect better fuel economy regardless of the engine selection, too; final EPA numbers aren’t available yet, but expect the new 2.0-liter to come in slightly better than the V6.
In terms of technology, the 2019 Cherokee isn’t getting left behind either. It now features the latest-gen Uconnect system, with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Starting at the Latitude Plus trim, buyers will also be offered a selection of over 80 safety features, include forward collision warning with active braking, lane sense with correction ability, adaptive cruise control with full stop capability, and blindspot mitigation, among other things.
The 2019 Jeep Cherokee is more than just a pretty face. The new design, new capacity, and new engines bring it right up to date in the SUV segment, while still staying firmly rooted in Jeep heritage. The 2019 Cherokee will have a starting price of $23,995 for the Latitude, $26,495 for the Latitude Plus, $30,375 for the Limited, $36,257 for the Overland, and $33,320 for the 4×4 Trailhawk.
