No Scrubs Allowed
A/N: I got another one for y’all. So, I was listening to the 90′s R&B/Hip-Hop playlist on Apple Music and “No Scrubs” by TLC came on and that's when I got the idea of writing a one-shot inspired by this very song. This is a one-shot of Erik “Killmonger” Stevens and his boy out and about during the summer when he stops the Black Reader and her friend beside them; he tries to shoot his shot. What will happen? Hmm...
WARNING: Profanity; c*ck blocking and pettiness.
RECOMMENDED LISTENING: No Scrubs by TLC
PAIRING: Erik Stevens x Black Reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media
July 4th, a hot summer day when Erik was in the passenger seat of a 2020 Fluorescent Yellow Neon Lamborghini Aventador. The inside interior was a glossy leather with a dark oakwood dashboard, banging sound system and red threading on the outer corner of the seats. He looked over his lighter complexion friend who drove 10 and 2. “A, why the fuck you driving like that man”, he asked leaned back in his seat.
“Because this is a nice ass car, man, and I ain’t tryna scratch it the fuck up.” Erik rolled his eyes before scrolling through Instagram. “Bruh, cars come and go, my G.” Aaron looked at his friend with an appalled face and said: “Niggaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, this shit was ex-pen-sive. Do you not see this detail. The dashboard was made Italy by delicate hands.” They finally pulled up to a red light when another car pulled up; a 2012 Nissan Altima. Erik looked over to see the driver, a woman with skin like his, long hair and bright colored nails. She was dancing to the Apple’s playlist.
Erik noticed another woman. Chocolate skin with her kinky curls in a low ponytail and a smile on her face watching her friend. Erik tapped Aaron’s arm before leaning out, whistling to get their attention. The driver looked over at him and rolled her window up until her friend smacked her arm to roll it back down. “How y’all ladies doing today? I’m Erik and this is my dude Aaron.” The driver looked at him up and down then at the car; she looked passed Erik then Aaron.
“Hello, Aaron. I’m Kelly and this is Y/N. How you doing” she said as she bit her lip. Aaron was too focus on the road. Erik looked at her face and chuckled until he saw Y/N looking at her. “How you doing, princess”, he asked Y/N and she said “I’m fine. It's just a little hot out here. They smiled at one another and before she can say anything else, Kelly blocked his view. “She is way too good for your freeloading ass. Ya game is weak as fuck and you need to get like ya friend. You broke ass nigga.” She turned up the radio as TLC’s No Scrubs played and sang the words loud enough for him to hear. He was about to tell her off until he noticed Y/N shaking her hand. He looked her as she signaled him to follow to the 7/ll straight ahead with a wink. Erik nodded watching them drive off and tapped Aaron saying “follow them but stay a few cars behind.”
Aaron looked to him chuckling and did as he was told. They followed the girls never being detected until the pulled into the lot. Kelly parked and Y/N got out the car with her phone in hand; they stood and talked for a while. When Erik saw her walk into the front door, he was stunned. She wore a tie-dye body con dress with Vans and her body was nothing like he ever imagined. She was thicker than a bowl oatmeal out the freezer. When Aaron parked beside them, Erik stepped out in his white tee, army cargos, and fresh air force ones with his black diamond watch and his father’s chain. Kelly scoffed and before she can even say anything, he placed his hand a few inches as saying ‘talk to the hand.’
When he walked in, looking for her when he spotted her in the chip aisle. He walked up to her with his hands in his pockets. “If I were you, I would get the Limon Lays. The perfect combo of salty and sweet.” Y/N looked up to him grinning before getting the chips. “Good choice.” She began walking when she signaled him to follow. “So, Erik. I just wanted to apologize for Kelly. She can be a huge b-word sometimes”, she said while choosing a watermelon Arizona; he nodded in approval. They began walking to the candy aisle when he said “Nah, don’t trip, little one. I’m used to those types of females. But why you hang around her? You seem sweeter than this whole fucking aisle.”
She giggled and said “that was a good one. See, ya game ain’t weak at all.” He chuckled with his fist to his mouth. “Nah, I’m playing. I knew her since we were younger. She was only the friend I ever had.” Erik looked out to see Kelly flirting with Aaron, touching his chest and all. Y/N watched them too when Erik said: “well, she ain’t ya only friend anymore, Y/N.” She looked up to him to see he was looking at her as well. He touched her arm with his fingertips and said “look, I don’t know her all too well but her heart ain’t in the right place. Kelly ain’t all that special little one”; he wrapped his arm around her neck as they walked around grabbing more snack.
They soon were at the register when Erik put his snacks with hers. “And who said I was paying for yours too”, she asked with an amused look but was being ignored by Erik who was smiling. “Your total is $45.98. Will that be cash, debit or credit”, the cashier asked and before Y/N pulled out her card, Erik said “cash” and pulled out a roll of hundreds out his pocket; Y/N watched as he handed him the money and got his change back. Erik pulled their bag to the side and her hand in his hand softly. She was mentally asking who he was and it was like her read her mind. He looked out and she followed his gaze, smiling and looking down. “So, Y/N. What do you have planned for tonight”, he asked with a smile making her blush even more.
He walked out with their bag in hand and saw how close Kelly was to Aaron at the front of the car. “Aight, A. I need the keys man.” Aaron nodded and passed them into Erik’s hands. Kelly folded her arms and asked, “Aaron, you are really gonna let him borrow your car.” She rolled her eyes when Erik went to the passenger side and received no answer until she heard the door open. “Aye, princess. Did ya get everything ya pretty self wanted” Erik and she raised the bags of Malibu Pineapple Rum, Vodka and Jack Daniels with chasers. “Sure did, E.”
“Damn, you gonna drink all of that,” Erik asked with a chuckle. She walked over to the car to get her small backpack then to him saying “well, you did say I could get anything and everything I wanted. It was all on you, remember.” He shrugged and said, “I am a man of my word.” She stood next to him when Kelly said “lemme get this straight. Aaron, you letting him borrow your car and money. Before Aaron said anything, Erik stopped and said: “Kelly, love do me a favor and read the license plate for us.” Kelly looked at him then to Aaron.
“K. L. L. M. N. G. R”, she read and Erik slowly applauded her; “very good. You can read”. He looked to Y/N and said “now, Y/N. Do me a favor and tell her my nickname. I just love how you say it.” She giggled and in a sweet voice, she said “Killmonger”. He shimmied as he opened the door for her and handing her the bags. “Oweeeee. The way she says it, makes a king feel good.” He looked at Kelly, closed the door and said “Ya see. I had to remove the vowels so that my whole name can fit. I let Aaron drive it because he has never been in one.” He stood in front of her and said: “ya know, with a such a pretty face, you sure do have a shitty ass personality.” He went to Aaron and gave him dap. “Aight, bruh. Get home safe. I know Kelly will give ya a ride.”
Aaron chuckled and Killmonger got in the car, buckling them in and asked Y/N “so, beautiful. What ya got a taste for” as he caressed her chin. She thought about and said “how about pizza? I know the best place in downtown. Waaaay cheesier than you.” Erik started the car and laughed. “Damn, must be cheesy as hell” Y/N smiled as they pulled off, leaving Kelly’s blood boiling, wishing she was Y/N.

2020 Subaru Legacy review: A feature-rich sedan with a vanilla wrapper

2020 Subaru Legacy review: A feature-rich sedan with a vanilla wrapper
It won’t win any fashion contests, but the Legacy’s real beauty is found within.
Jon Wong/Roadshow
Despite not looking all that different, the 2020 Subaru Legacy pictured here is a brand-new sedan. And while it might not stir emotions with its design, those who look beneath the conservative sheet metal will discover a spacious interior chock full of new technology, not to mention a more robust chassis that makes the Legacy much nicer to drive.

Beneath the skin
The 2020 Legacy rides on Subaru’s new global platform that also underpins the Ascent, Crosstrek, Forester, Impreza and Outback. This stiffer, stronger frame forms the bones of a sedan that’s about the same size as before, with a 108.3-inch wheelbase.
2020 Subaru Legacy: Sleepy styling, but filled with substance
See all photos
For those hoping the stiffer platform translates to tighter, more responsive handling, I’m sorry to say that’s not the case. Tossing the Legacy Sport into curves, you’ll experience some dive under braking and a bit of controlled roll at turn in. The car’s road-holding abilities are just OK through bends, but pushing it moderately hard results in howls from the 18-inch Yokohama Avid GT BluEarth tires. Even with the most aggressive Sport Sharp drive mode activated, the Legacy’s steering is numb off center, though weight builds progressively as you turn. The brakes boast strong initial bite at the top of the pedal stroke and are easy to modulate.
Where the Legacy really shines, though, is in the ride comfort department. The softer-sprung suspension and 50-series sidewall tires are great for comfy jogs around town, smoothing out impacts from bumps and ruts along the way.
Updated base and new turbo engine options
The 2020 Legacy has a new 2.4-liter turbo engine option that replaces the old boxer-six. Rated at 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque, it’s the same turbocharged flat-four you’ll find in the Ascent and Outback.
The 2.5-liter flat-four should return 35 mpg on the highway with all-wheel drive.
Jon Wong/Roadshow
My Sport trim, however, rocks an updated version of Subaru’s 2.5-liter naturally aspirated boxer-four with 182 hp and 176 lb-ft, mated to a continuously variable transmission and standard all-wheel drive. In the Sport Sharp setting, the engine delivers adequate grunt to get the Legacy hustling up to speed for highway merging. With the car in the default Intelligent mode, however, and acceleration is leisurely at best.
The Legacy’s CVT does a fairly seamless job of switching between ratios so the engine won’t annoyingly buzz like mad during wide-open throttle applications. Opting to change ratios yourself via the steering wheel paddles can be done, too, but the responses are so frustratingly muted that it’s best to let the computers handle “shifting.”
As for fuel economy, the base drivetrain setup returns an EPA-estimated 27 miles per gallon in the city and 35 mpg on the highway. That’s not shabby considering the Legacy comes standard with all-wheel drive.
The cabin is comfortable and cleanly styled.
Jon Wong/Roadshow
Clean styling with fresh tech
The Legacy is unquestionably understated compared to more fashionable midsize sedans like the latest Honda Accord, Hyundai Sonata, Mazda6 and Nissan Altima. Even with the Sport model’s additional touches like its unique grille, black mirror caps, black wheels and trunk spoiler, the car simply gets lost in the crowd. Then again, if you prefer to fly under the radar, this might be the sedan for you.
Things do get more interesting inside, at least. The Legacy’s cabin is airy with a lot of glass letting in oodles of natural light. There’s generous room for passengers up front or in back, with the latter gaining an additional 1.4 inches of legroom compared to the old Legacy. The interior has a relatively straightforward design and everything is built from high-quality materials with leather-wrapped, soft-touch and nicely stitched surfaces throughout. Even the hard-plastic portions feel sturdy and are nicely finished. The seats are cushy, there are numerous cubbies to stash things and the trunk, with 15.1 cubic feet of space, will swallow just about anything you throw at it.
The 11.6-inch display is colorful and easy to use.
Jon Wong/Roadshow
There’s a massive, 11.6-inch center touchscreen housing the Subaru Multimedia Plus infotainment system. It’s packed full of goodies such as a TomTom navigation system, Wi-Fi hotspot, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite radio and Bluetooth. While those occupy the middle portion of the display, the bottom houses climate adjustments like fan speed, vent settings and three-stage heated front seats. For the most part, I like the intuitive infotainment interface. It’s got big, clearly labeled icons and quickly swaps pages between different menu screens. Thankfully, Subaru doesn’t put everything in the touchscreen, with a couple of knobs and a few hard buttons on the side to adjust radio volume, tuning and cabin temperature.
On the driver-assistance technology front, every Legacy comes standard with Subaru’s EyeSight suite of features including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist with lane-centering and pedestrian detection. My test car is also outfitted with available blind-spot monitoring, reverse automatic braking and lane-change assist that all work as advertised.
How I’d spec it
After spending a week with the serviceable, but slightly underwhelming base engine, my ideal Subaru Legacy would have to have the turbo. I’d go with the Limited XT that begins at $35,095, including $900 for destination. With options like heated seats, a heated steering wheel, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert standard, I’d leave it at that and be happy as a clam. It’s a fair amount more than the $30,090 car reviewed here, but trust me, if you can swing the turbo, get it.
The Legacy offers solid all-wheel-drive value.
Jon Wong/Roadshow
All-wheel drive value play
Midsize sedan entries offering all-wheel drive aren’t as sparse as before with the Nissan Altima and Toyota Camry now available with this tech, though the Legacy remains the only one in the category with it standard. And with its $23,645 base price, the Subaru is the most affordable option if you are on the hunt for a midsize sedan with power going to all four wheels. To get all-wheel drive in the Altima you’ll have to part with at least $26,575, while the Camry will set you back $27,365 to start.
Yes, the Legacy lacks standout style and isn’t a hoot behind the wheel, but it’s a very well-rounded, comfortable sedan, packed with tech and features a spacious cabin at an affordable price point. It won’t set hearts ablaze, but those are nevertheless some strong merits to stand on.

Loaded 2020 Toyota Camry AWD or a Base ’21 Avalon AWD—Which Should You Buy ?
Before Toyota decided to add all-wheel drive to the 2020 Camry and Avalon sedans, your AWD mid-size four-door choices were fairly limited. The Toyotas double the options, so provided you’ve moved past the Nissan Altima AWD or the Subaru Legacy, which makes more sense? The 2020 Toyota Camry AWD, or the 2021 Toyota Avalon AWD? Load up the Camry with options, and you’ll find yourself spending just as much as you would for the half-size-larger, base-model Avalon XLE. So, which should you pick?
After driving both, we pored over the standard and optional equipment lists and then dove into Toyota’s online configurator. We selected the $31,920 Camry XLE AWD as our starting point instead of the slightly pricier XSE AWD ($32,460 to start) because Toyota does not yet offer the AWD option on the equivalent Avalon XSE (or Touring or TRD trims), so the luxe-oriented XLE makes for the best comparison.
From there, we threw everything major that cost money at the Camry XLE AWD: The Navigation (which includes a premium nine-speaker JBL audio system with subwoofer for $1,810) and Driver Assistance packages (Bird’s-eye-view camera with Perimeter Scan, Intelligent Clearance Sonar with Rear Cross-Traffic Braking, multi-stage ventilated front seats, and a 10-inch color head-up display for $2,375). Those elevated our Camry’s MSRP to $36,095, about $750 less than a base Avalon XLE AWD. (For the record, it’s also $1,640 more than an unoptioned Nissan Altima 2.5 Platinum AWD and $1,000 more than a Subaru Legacy XT Limited.) Here is how our Camry and the entry-level Avalon AWD compare:
The lower-spec Avalon lacks these fancy-Camry features:
Leather Upholstery—Standard on Camry XLE/XSE; Avalon XLE gets SofTex pseudo-leather. Actual leather is only available on the $43,130 Limited model
10-inch HUD—As above, a head-up display is only available on Avalon Limited.
Driver Assistance Package—These goodies are not offered on Avalon XLE, and even Limited buyers must spend another $1,150 to get them.
Dynamic Navigation/JBL—Avalon XLE buyers must spend another $1,720 for this package, which we included on our Camry, but they’ll end up with five more audio speakers (and at least the base Avalon starts out with eight speakers to Camry’s six, or optional nine).
Qi wireless charging mat—You’d have to spring for the Avalon’s $1,000 moonroof package to get this must-have widget.
18-inch wheels and 235/45R18 tires—Standard on Camry SE and above, the Avalon makes do with 17s wearing 215/55R17 tires (all are all-season).
Heated outside mirrors—Again, requires stepping up to Avalon Limited, on which they’re standard.
Color choices—Camry offers nine paint options, plus three two-tone versions; Avalon offers just eight monochrome options. And these colors are Camry only: Galactic Aqua Mica, Super White, Predawn Gray Metallic, and Blue Streak Metallic.
But, even the fanciest Camry AWD lacks these Avalon features:
Acoustic noise-reducing glass—Avalon gets it in the windshield and front doors, while Camry LE and above get the windshield only.
9.0-inch Infotainment screen—Camry makes do with an 8.0-inch screen.
Dynamic LED turn signals—Flashy animated indicators front and rear are Avalon-exclusive.
Heated steering wheel—This will be offered on Camry in a new Cold Weather package that has yet to be priced, so was not included in our tally.
Two USB-C charging ports—Camry XLE/XSE share Avalon’s three standard USB ports, but lack the Avalon’s next-gen ports.
Colors—These hues are Avalon only: Harbor Gray Metallic, Opulent Amber, Blueprint.
An extra 9 cubic feet of passenger space—The Avalon’s 1.8-inch-longer wheelbase pays off in 2.4 inches of added rear legroom and a slight width increase lends 1.4 inches more rear shoulder room.
1.0 cubic foot of added trunk space
Even though both the Camry and the Avalon technically share the same TNGA component set, the Avalon’s underpinnings are more closely aligned with those of the larger, more luxurious Lexus ES sedan. Therefore, the Avalon benefits from added noise, vibration, and harshness countermeasures that no Camry receives. The longer wheelbase results in greater ride comfort, and its interior is a bit more opulent looking—even if the “base” XLE’s seats are swathed in SofTex instead of cow skin. Manufacturer-claimed weights for base Camry and Avalon XLE are within 41 pounds, which the options on our proposed Camry would likely equalize, so performance should be nearly identical. The choice will come down to a matter of taste. This gadget-loving editor would pick the loaded Camry—but he’d take a long test drive in a $35,919 Subaru Legacy XT Limited with tech package to see how 58 more horses and 95 more lb-ft struck his fancy first. Of course, if a big-boy sedan is more your flavor, and you must have all-wheel-drive and can only spend about $36,000, the Avalon would suit you best.

Auto Showdown: 2020 Nissan Sentra vs. 2020 Honda Civic
Nissan dropped the new 2020 Sentra at the L.A. Auto Show this week, and with its first major redesign since 2013 it came looking ready to do battle with the leader in the compact segment, the Honda Civic. The current Civic has been a MotorTrend favorite since its launch in 2015, and we’ve praised it for its excellent driving dynamics, spacious interior, and peppy 1.5 liter turbo engine. The new Sentra counters with a full suite of safety tech included as standard, a new engine, and handsome good looks.
We won’t know anything about the way the Sentra drives until a little later this year, so driving comparisons with the Civic will have to wait. Luckily, Honda and Nissan brought multiple examples of the Civic and Sentra to the L.A. Auto Show this year, so we can still evaluate the two compacts based on specs and what we can see, and so far there’s a lot to like about the new Sentra.
Exterior Styling
Comparing the two cars’ looks will simply come down to preference, but both are now handsome offerings. The Sentra can be optioned with a black roof to contrast either its orange or white exterior colors, while the Civic is slightly more restrained, even in its sportiest trim. Both cars come with LED headlights as an option on higher trim levels.
Interior Design and Quality
The cabin in the new Sentra feels much more mature than the one in the Civic. Where the civic gauges and gauge cluster are angular and somewhat toy-like, the gauge cluster in the Sentra is classic. An analog tachometer and speedometer are split by a color, multi-function display. The Civic’s gauges are angular, and somewhat harder to read than the Sentra’s, and the center console of the Civic rises higher than the new Sentra’s, giving a much more cocooned feel inside. The steering wheel in the Sentra is more sporty, too. With a flat bottom and thinner spokes, it feels like a higher-quality item when compared to the Honda’s wheel.
So too does the rest of the cabin in the Sentra. The infotainment display—pilfered from the midsize Altima—sits high up on the dash, leaving space for three circular vents on the center of the dash and physical climate controls underneath. Both cars get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, but the Sentra comes with a number of safety features like blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, and automatic front and rear braking with pedestrian detection. The Civic counters by having adaptive cruise control as standard, but misses out on features like blind spot monitoring and cross traffic alert, which are available on higher trim levels.
After spending time in the Sentra’s surprisingly comfortable quilted leather seats (something you can’t get in the Civic), the infotainment system proved to be snappy and easy to get the hang of right away. Overall, it’s a revolution when compared to the previous car, adding style and substance and making a great first impression.
Drivetrain and Chassis
The new Sentra rides on a brand-new platform, but will have just one engine option at launch. Powering the new Nissan is a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter four-cylinder that makes 149 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of twist. The Honda, on the other hand, comes with either a 2.0-liter in the LX and Sport trims, or a turbocharged 1.5-cylinder in the EX, EX-L, and Touring trims. Compared to the Sentra’s inline-four, the standard engine in the Civic has 9 more horsepower, but 7 less lb-ft of torque. The turbo 1.5, on the other hand, makes a healthy 175 hp and 162 lb-ft.
With the addition of an independent rear end for the first time since the Sentra of the ’90s, both compacts now have an independent rear suspension setup, which should make the Sentra more playful on the road. Does that, coupled with the new chassis, mean it’ll match the Civic in terms of dynamism and engagement? We’ll find out soon. Stay tuned for the full drive review!

2020 Nissan Versa Review: More Attractive and …
Many Nissan Versa owners don’t care about cars. They look at its affordable starting price, sit in its spacious interior, and ask where to sign the paperwork. A popular car for ride-hail drivers and rental agencies, the Versa is known for being cheap and providing decent mileage. But apart from the last-gen Versa’s value, there was nothing really interesting about it. The design wasn’t compelling, and it lacked the technology that competitors offered. But that’s changing with the 2020 Nissan Versa, which is getting lower, wider, and longer, with better looks and safety technologies that will keep it up to date with its competition.
The biggest change is styling. The Versa finally ditched its quirky look for a much more convincing and contemporary appearance. Although the platform is still the same as the outgoing Versa, designers made the 2020 model 2.3 inches lower, 1.8 wider, and 1.6 inches longer. With the addition of Nissan’s Vmotion grille and signature headlights, the updated Versa gets new taillights and a C-pillar borrowed from the Maxima and Altima. Depending on the trim you choose (S, SV, and SR) you’ll get a slightly different look. The 2020 Versa S rolls on 15-inch steelies to the SV’s 16-inch alloys, but both get the same halogen headlights. The SR ups the game with LEDs, 17-inch alloy wheels, black mirror caps, and a darker grille.
The 2020 Versa’s interior also received a welcome upgrade. SV and SR models get a 7.0-inch touchscreen compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a new dash brings character to the interior. The dash on the SR is party upholstered in leatherette, and SV models can get it in a different color. These trims also get a 7.0-inch screen on the instrument panel, bringing more tech to the interior. S trims also get a 7.0-inch display, but it doesn’t have the Nissan Connect infotainment system, nor is it compatible with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. But regardless of the version you choose, all of them come with three USB ports, push-start button, and Bluetooth for calls and audio streaming. The 2020 Versa continues to be spacious, but the rear seats actually lost some legroom compared to the outgoing model. Although front passengers gained 2.7 inches of legroom, those in the back lost 6.0 inches—now getting 31.0 inches in total. This is a huge change, as the Hyundai Accent, Kia Rio, and Toyota Yaris all have more than 33.3 inches of rear seat legroom. The back seat doesn’t feel cramped, but it doesn’t feel as cavernous as before.
All 2020 Nissan Versas will continue to be powered by the same 1.6-liter engine from the outgoing model, except this time it produces a little more power—122 hp and 114 lb-ft of torque. The five-speed manual continues to be the standard transmission for the S grade, while the SV and SR trims only come with a CVT. You can still get the CVT on the S trim, but you’ll pay $1,670 for it—a lot, but that’s cheaper than the cost of adding a CVT on the 2019 model.
Like the outgoing model, the new 2020 Versa isn’t inspiring to drive; it still feels underpowered and slow. Step on the gas, and you’ll hear the transmission complain, as it whines to get its job done. When we merged onto Nashville’s highways, the Versa tested our patience as it took its time to gain speed; even when we floored it, the transmission wasn’t eager to react. Nissan says that it updated the powertrain to be quicker to respond, but we didn’t notice these changes during our drive. Once you get to a cruising speed, the ride is decent—the suspension keeps the body composed on the corners and the cabin is quiet for a subcompact sedan. The steering actually feels responsive and is on par with the rest of the segment.
When I started driving the Versa on the streets of downtown Nashville, I was hoping to get a similar experience to what the Kicks offers. The Kicks, which is based on the Versa, feels agile despite having only 122 hp; it has the energy and excitement you wouldn’t expect of an entry-level crossover. But the Versa doesn’t feel the same way.
The good news, however, is that the 2020 Versa adds new safety tech. All trims get standard automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, rear automatic braking, and lane departure warning. SV and SR trims add blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. Cruise control is also standard on all three trims, but just like the Kicks, there’s no adaptive cruise control available. Another nice feature that every Versa gets is auto on/off headlights and high-beam assist—something we only saw on premium cars until recently.
Buying a small car usually means high fuel economy, and the Versa continues to deliver on that. For the 2020 model year, the Versa gets 32/40 mpg city/highway for the CVT, while the manual gets 27/35 mpg. That’s an increase of 1 mpg for CVT models, but the manual loses 1 mpg on the highway compared to last year’s model.
Overall, the Versa continues to deliver on the basics, except it will now do it with more style, tech, and standard equipment than before. But those who walk into the Nissan dealer will find a decent increase on its pricing to account for these upgrades. With the 2020 Nissan Versa starting at $15,625 for the S with the five-speed manual and reaching $19,135 for the SR, the Versa isn’t as cheap as it was last year. One of the first vehicles on display at the start of the journey is the Mitsubishi division's fully electric utility vehicle. The S-AWC all-wheel drive is obviously part of the recipe, as is electric propulsion, while the silhouette is clearly avant-garde. Unfortunately, it was learned during the press conference that this super-SUV would not be mass produced.
