#232 koneko
Bracket D Round 1
Poll 20
Donavan - Dov (@thebewingedjewelcat) vs. Koneko Traxivan-Emerson (@livoftheparty)
231. Donavan - Dov (@thebewingedjewelcat)
He/him
He’s a medium with a phobia of his neck being touched.  Currently estranged from his brothers.  Gets tortured and then the whimper forces a venomous snake to bite him.
Dark brown/black hair, blue eyes.  6 foot tall.  Dimples when he truly smiles.
232. Koneko Traxivan-Emerson (@livoftheparty)
she/her
Introduced communism to a D&D setting, overthrew most of the governments of the world at some time or another. Married the party dragonborn paladin and spent centuries raising their found family. She was even transgender.
4 1/2 foot tall twig of a drow. Carries an obscene number of swords. Fuckin sick cheekbones. Art (drawn unprompted!) by my friend Finn, who played the paladin, Quil.

Daily Japanese Study Unit (22)
Grammar
211. の間に (no aida ni):
Parsing: [Verb Phrase] [aida- noun] [ni- dative particle]
Meaning: “While VERB PHRASE” or “During VERB PHRASE”
Example: “Tamago wo tabete iru aida ni niwatori ga naita.” “The chicken cried while I ate the egg.”
212. をはじめ (o hajime):
Parsing: [Noun] [wo- accusative particle] [hajime- participle verb] Note: This expression takes the functional place of the noun in the greater inflexional phrase and causes the omission of the inflexional particles.
Meaning: “NOUN, among others, ...” or “NOUN, for example, ...”
Example: “Anta o hajime daikirai desu.” “I hate you, among others.”
213. おかげで (okage de):
Parsing: [Verb Phrase] [okage- noun] [de-  gerund verb]
Meaning: “Thanks to VERB PHRASE” or “Because of VERB PHRASE”
Example: “Kage no okage de Hokage wa hoka kara kakuseta.” “Thanks to the shadow, the Hokage (it’s a Naruto thing) was able to hide from the others.”
214. っぱなし (ppanashi):
Parsing: [Verb(stem)] [ppanashi- substantivizing suffix]
Meaning: “still VERB-ing” “leave something VERB-ing”
Example: “Uso wo tsukita kara kanojo wa mada boku ga kanojo wo ai shite iru shinri-ppanashi desu.” “Because I lied, my girlfriend still believes I love her.”
215. っぽい (ppoi):
Parsing: [Noun] [ppoi- adjectival verb] Note: Verbs use this suffix in their participial form, which is a substantive form.
Meaning: “like a NOUN” or “NOUN-ish”
Example: “Ore wa kamippoi karada ga aru.” “Have have a body like a god.”
216. さえ (sae):
Parsing: [Noun Phrase] [sae- secondary particle] Note: This particle will cause the primary particles to drop out (except the dative). Post-positions will go before sae. Also, sometimes a de is added at the beginning, and mo at the end, for emphasis.
Meaning: “even NOUN PHRASE”
Example: “Anta sae kono bun wo wakareru.” “Even you will be able to understand this sentence.”
217. さえ~ば (sae ~ ba):
Parsing: {[Noun] [sae- secondary particle] [areba(ba conditional)- verb]} or {[Verb(stem)] [sae- secondary particle] [sureba(ba conditional)- verb)} or {[Adjectival Verb(adverbial form)] [sae- secondary particle] [areba(ba conditional)- verb]} Note: if the noun you are using is one that takes the -na suffix (and you are using it adjectivally), then sae will be preceded by ni or de. Also, there are many rules for this one conditional phrase, so avoid it if you can.
Meaning: “If only NOUN/VERB...”
Example: “Kirei ni sae areba idoru ni nakeru.” “If only I were pretty, I could then become an idol.”
218. 最中に (saichuu ni):
Parsing: {[Verb Phrase [Verb(Te-form)] [iru- copula/verb]}} or {[Noun] [no- copula/verb]} or {[Adjectival Verb(present)} + [saichuu- noun] [ni- dative particle]
Meaning: “in the middle of VERB PHRASE/NOUN/ADJECTIVAL VERB” or “during VERB PHRASE/NOUN/ADJECTIVAL VERB”
Example: “Eiga no saichuu ni boku ga nakihameta.” “In the middle of the movie, I started to cry.”
219. せいで (sei de):
Parsing: [Verb Phrase] [sei- noun] [de- instrumental particle]
Meaning: “because of VERB PHRASE”
Example: “Anata no okaasan ga tazunete kita ima ie wa tabemono ga nai.” “Because your mother came to visit, now the house has no food.”
220. 次第 (shidai):
Parsing: [Verb(stem)] [shidai- noun/adverb]
Meaning: “as soon as VERB”
Example: “Neko ga nakunari-shidai koneko wo kau tsumori.” “I intend to buy a kitten as soon as the cat passes away.”

Not to be unsportsmanlike but I'm pulling out the big guns for propaganda for Koneko. Here's the letter she wrote to her late wife on her deathbed.
To my dearest love,
It has been 688 years since I lost you. I can feel my own end approaching, so it seems prudent to send you a letter catching you up on how I've been. I have no doubt you've been watching, but perhaps this can fill in some gaps.
I swore to you on your last day that I would protect the Traxivan clan. I have done my very best to keep them safe and raise them with the comfort and love we were denied. I remember when it was just us and Avaraxes, that troublemaker. I do hope she's behaving up there. There are so many now. If I were to live much longer I fear I'd lose track!
I know you have seen me all this time, and you must be worried that I haven't been able to see you, but I have. I see you in all of them. I see your courage when I train them to fight. I see your passion with every word they learn. I see your kindness in every hand they extend. You live on in them.
They all know your language. It pains me to know the burden you held so long as its only speaker. Never forget that none of this was possible without you. They all know your name and your bravery.
It's strange, being the last of my bloodline. Countless centuries of fear and hate ended thanks to a few choice acts of love. I am so happy to leave behind a legacy worth preserving.
I won't lie, it is difficult to live so long. The rest of our party have long since passed on. Bea was the last to go. I hope you didn't have to see me that night. I have seen so many of this clan drift away before me. I held each of their hands as they passed, just as I did yours. I have seen you die too many times, my dear. But with every loss, they were there to catch me and grieve with me. It was my greatest fear to live and die alone, but I am not alone.
Our family surrounds me. They care for me now, much as I insist I don't need it. They still call me Ezhiki, you know. It means Matriarch now, a title I am so humbled to be worthy of. I expect they've all kept you up with stories about me. Being fireproof is such a useful tool for pranks.
I never expected to live long, my love. I could not have asked for a happier ending. Thank you for coming back, thank you for helping me, and thank you for being in my life. Our time here was so cruelly short. I look forward to sharing eternity with you.
Your loving wife,
Koneko Traxivan-Emerson
