Taher Shah’s new song Farishta makes fans’ ears bleed: ‘Government should play it on streets to keep people home’ - music
Tumblr media
Even though fans weren’t expecting greatness from Taher Shah’s new song, everyone reacted with disappointment when the singer released the music video for Farishta on Friday. Essentially a translation of his cult hit Mankind’s Angel, the video is completely animated. The video has over 1,00,000 views on YouTube, with the ‘dislikes’ far exceeding the number of ‘likes’. “UNSC recommended all countries to play this song on the street so that people stay at home,” one person wrote in the comments section. “Coronavirus: Finally a worthy opponent! Our battles will be legendary!” wrote another. One commenter even compared the release of the song to other tragic events that have happened in 2020, such as the Australian bushfires and the coronavirus pandemic.   On Twitter, fans shared memes to express their disappointment with the song. “I set this as my alarm. Now I wake up one hour before the alarm to make sure I turn it off,” one person wrote. Another person shared a picture of a man pouring Harpic into his eyes, joking about the pain of watching the music video. “Tahir Shah literally spent 4 years translating angel into farishta,” one person wrote. Vishal Dadlani would smoke 40 cigarettes a day, shows how his voice has improved 6 months after quitting - music
Tumblr media
Singer and music composer Vishal Dadlani has shared a video to show how much his voice has improved since he quit smoking six months ago. Along with his video, Vishal also wrote a long note about how everyone should quit smoking before it causes permanent damage. “I quit smoking on the last day of August 2019. After 9 straight years of 40+ cigarettes a day, and a year of vaping (which was worse!) plus my severe abuse of my vocals at concerts and during recordings...my voice had almost given up,” he wrote. “I never let anyone know, but I was struggling. My range, control, tone, everything was wobbling. Singing softly was completely impossible (any singer will agree, that’s far more demanding than belting out a loud take!) Everything you’ve heard from me in the last 2 years, has been nowhere close to 100% of what I actually sound like,” he added.  “BUT...NOW... Almost six months after quitting completely, my voice is almost back to what it used to be. My clean tone has returned, my control is a lot better (not yet perfect, though) and I’m actually happy to be singing again, instead of feeling discomfort and pain. Basically...what I’m saying is...if you smoke...quit now.before you damage yourself permanently,” he said. In the video, Vishal is heard singing a verse from Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s Kinna Sona Tennu Rab Ne Banaya. Also read: Milind Soman shares emotional post on dad’s death: ‘Never had a great deal of affection for him’Vishal has delivered hit songs with songs such as Madaari, Jame Raho from Taare Zameen Par, Tu Meri from Bang Bang and Drama Queen from Hasee Toh Phasee. Together with Shekhar Ravijani, they have worked on hundreds of songs in Bollywood. Apart from his work in Bollywood, Vishal is also a vocal supporter of the Aam Aadmi Party. He hit Delhi streets to campaign for the party during the recent state assembly elections. Dadlani had composed theme song for the party in both 2020 and 2015 Assembly elections. AR Rahman’s daughter Khatija’s dig at Taslima Nasreen, shares ‘away from suffocation’ photo with family - music
Tumblr media
AR Rahman’s daughter Khatija Rahman has shared happy family pictures with her father and sister Rahima, a day after her choice of wearing a burqa was described as ‘suffocating’ by writer Taslima Nasreen. Sharing pictures from their Baku vacation, Khatija wrote in caption, “Peaceful time with family away from “suffocation” tbt #baku #azerbaijan #livingmylife #beingawayfromhome #beingawayfromnegativepeople #bosslife #bosslady #burqawalisareempowered #respectingmysisterschoices #nobodymesseswithme #singapengal.” While Khatija is in a burqa, her sister Rahima is in black distressed denims and jacket.  Her reaction was in response to Taslima sharing her photo and writing, “I absolutely love A R Rahman’s music. But whenever i see his dear daughter, i feel suffocated. It is really depressing to learn that even educated women in a cultural family can get brainwashed very easily!”Khatija also wrote a new note ahead of posting the family pictures along with a picture of a woman in a burqa. She wrote, “Why the double standards and sudden concerns only when it comes to women belonging to a certain faith? Haven’t we seen men wearing turbans? Women wearing habits ? Why only when it comes to a particular faith are women targeted for the choices they make wholeheartedly and with pride. Why ? Why ? And why ? I simply do not understand.”  Also read: AR Rahman’s daughter Khatija trolled by Taslima Nasreen for wearing burqa, replies ‘Google up what true feminism means’Khatija had shared multiple posts in reply to Taslima and talked about her choice of wearing a burqa. She wrote to her, “Dear Taslima Nasreen, I’m sorry you feel suffocated by my attire. Please get some fresh air, cause I don’t feel suffocated rather I’m proud and empowered for what I stand for. I suggest you google up what true feminism means because it isn’t bashing other women down nor bringing their fathers into the issue. I also don’t recall sending my photos to you for your perusal.”In an earlier post, she had said, “Been only a year and this topic is in the rounds again..there’s so much happening in the country and all people are concerned about is the piece of attire a woman wants to wear. Wow, I’m quite startled. Every time this topic comes the fire in me rages and makes me want to say a lot of things..Over the last one year, I’ve found a different version of myself which I haven’t seen in so many years. I will not be weak or regret the choices I’ve made in life. I am happy and proud of what I do and thanks to those who have accepted me the way I am. My work will speak, God willing.. I don’t wish to say any further. To those of you who feel why I’m even bringing this up and explaining myself, sadly it so happens and one has to speak for oneself, that’s why I’m doing it. Dear Taslima Nasreen, I’m sorry you feel suffocated by my attire. Please get some fresh air, cause I don’t feel suffocated rather I’m proud and empowered for what I stand for. I suggest you google up what true feminism means because it isn’t bashing other women down nor bringing their fathers into the issue I also don’t recall sending my photos to you for your perusal.”Follow @htshowbiz for more Read the full article

AR Rahman’s daughter Khatija trolled by Taslima Nasreen for wearing burqa, replies ‘Google up what true feminism means’ - music
Tumblr media
AR Rahman’s daughter Khatija Rahman again silenced her critics including author Taslima Nasreen who called out her father for her choice of wearing a burqa. Taslima had recently criticised them for how “even educated women in a cultural family can get brainwashed very easily.”Sharing a picture of Khatija in a burqa, Taslima wrote on Twitter, “I absolutely love A R Rahman’s music. But whenever i see his dear daughter, i feel suffocated. It is really depressing to learn that even educated women in a cultural family can get brainwashed very easily!” Responding to Taslima’s post, Khatija shared a picture of fire along with Carson Kolhoff's quote on her Instagram page and wrote, “Don’t ever mistake my silence for ignorance, my calmness for acceptance, or my kindness for weakness - Carson Kolhoff , To my dearest folks who seem suffocated. Please go and get some fresh air .” She shared the screenshot of Taslima’s said tweet and wrote, “Been only a year and this topic is in the rounds again..there’s so much happening in the country and all people are concerned about is the piece of attire a woman wants to wear. Wow, I’m quite startled. Every time this topic comes the fire in me rages and makes me want to say a lot of things.”Talking about finding a different version of herself over the last year, Khatija wrote, “I will not be weak or regret the choices I’ve made in life. I am happy and proud of what I do and thanks to those who have accepted me the way I am. My work will speak, God willing.. I don’t wish to say any further. To those of you who feel why I’m even bringing this up and explaining myself, sadly it so happens and one has to speak for oneself, that’s why I’m doing it.”Addressing the activist directly, she shared a message for her, “Dear Taslima Nasreen, I’m sorry you feel suffocated by my attire. Please get some fresh air, cause I don’t feel suffocated rather I’m proud and empowered for what I stand for. I suggest you google up what true feminism means because it isn’t bashing other women down nor bringing their fathers into the issue. Thank you all. I request you all not to abuse or make any hate speech against Ms. Taslim. Lets strive to become a broad minded society in accepting the choices our fellow human beings make and let’s also remember Ms.Taslim in our prayers and not judge her for the choices she’s made in life. Peace.”A similar controversy had erupted last year when Khatija had attended an event along with her father in a burqa. The Oscar-winning musician was heavily trolled for the same. Khatija often shares pictures with her family and friends on Instagram and is always seen in a burqa.Follow @htshowbiz for more Read the full article

Joshua Karpeh: Carving a name for himself cautiously - music
Tumblr media
Up until the second half of 2017, Joshua Karpeh was working in a real estate firm in New York, US but the job “didn’t agree” with him. Within a year of quitting the “reasonably well-paid job”, he had released an EP titled Cold War under the moniker Cautious Clay. “It ( his job) was something that I started doing, after college. But I wasn’t very happy doing it, and I don’t think they agreed with me either (laughs). I always was drawn to music, and I always wanted to be one (a musician). Even while I was working, I would play music, try to make compositions, and play with others as well,” he says.  “The name, Cautious Clay, of course was inspired by the great Muhammad Ali (he was born as Cassius Clay). But the word Cautious was to sort of showcase the patient side of me. I am someone who takes time with their music and doesn’t always rush into things,” he adds. Read| Lucky Ali claims he felt the wrath of people who worked with father Mahmood: ‘They took it out all on me’Unlike other musicians, Joshua understands the reasons behind why his music appeals to people. “I think it’s my voice, and something to do with the sense that people like the texture of my voice and they way I sound,” he says. “Musically as well, I don’t want to be boxed down by genres or different things. I just like the idea of creating music, and there’s a lot of influence of music that I have listened to while I was growing up, and that reflects in my music as well,” adds Joshua, who apart from working as a solo musician, has also worked with artists Taylor Swift and John Mayer.Soon after he released Cold War, it started making waves in the underground circuit, and as of today, its video has almost a million likes that was released last year on YouTube. “Yes it was a great response. something which I never expected, to be honest. There was a lot of heart that I put into it, and I guess that’s what people really liked,” Joshua tells us.  Since his first EP, Josh has slowly carved a fan base for himself, and his music has reached only more ears. Another one of his singles, Erase, was picked by the popular gaming creators EA Sports and it features in their game, FIFA 20. “Yeah, it was something that I just thought would be cool. I never thought that people would like it so much and it would get popular in other parts of the world as well. But yeah, it’s been great,” he beams.Read| Prateek Kuhad: Way less shy and conscious nowThere is an irony about the song and how it got popular which is not lost on Joshua. The song talks about the pitfalls of social media and the world of Internet, and yet, it became a global number, not through the game, but when it was released on YouTube. “I know it’s a great place. You can release your music, and the whole world can listen to you, without any problems. But at the same time, there is this bubble, that people tend to get stuck in, and just look for social validation, which I think is not right,” he says. Maybe that’s the reason he is not surprised that his music is getting popular and is being heard across the globe now, including India. That does not mean he is not excited about the fact that “people like” listening to his music. “It’s great to hear that people are listening to the music I create. I actually do listen to Indian music, and I did try learning the sitar. I also almost did come to India to perform at a music festival, but unfortunately things didn’t work out. I guess, I would love to come to India one day and would love to perform!” he concludes. Interact with the author on Twitter/@sammysamarth Read the full article

Tumblr media
The Supreme Court on Thursday stayed proceedings initiated in a Thiruvananthapuram court by a woman claiming to be the daughter of singer Anuradha Paudwal. A bench headed by Chief Justice S A Bobde issued notice to the 46-year-old woman on a plea filed by Paudwal seeking transfer of the case to Mumbai. The woman had filed the petition in the Thiruvananthapuram court claiming that she was the daughter of the popular playback singer and had sought Rs 50 crore compensation from her biological parents for allegedly denying her the childhood and life she was entitled to.Karmala Modex, a city resident, had claimed that Paudwal had handed her over to her foster parents-- Ponnachan and Agnes -- in 1974 as the singer had a busy schedule and did not want to raise a child at the time.Paudwal, a recipient of the Padma Shri and the National Film Award, was married to music composer Arun Paudwal. Modex’s lawyer had said they tried to get in touch with the singer before filing the case but never got any response. The district family court in Thiruvananthapuram had asked Paudwal and her two children to appear in person on January 27.Also read: Wendell Rodricks on Priyanka Chopra’s Grammy dress: ‘There is an age to wear some clothes’; Twitter hits back Modex sought to be declared as Paudwal’s legitimate daughter and claimed she is also entitled to one-fourth share of the assets and properties, her lawyer said, adding that she has also sought a compensation of Rs 50 crore for the loss caused to her. Adnan Sami on Padma Shri honour: ‘My father did his duty for his country. What is my award got to do with him?’ - music
Tumblr media
Pakistani-origin musician Adnan Sami, who is at the centre of a political debate over his Padma Shri award, on Thursday said his name was unnecessarily dragged into the controversy by “minor politicians” trying to gain mileage.Sami, who became an Indian citizen in 2016 and had expressed his “infinite gratitude” at being chosen for the government award, said he shared good relationships with people across political spectrum. “The people who are criticising are some minor politicians. They are doing it because of some political agenda that they have and it has nothing to do with me. I am not a politician, I am a musician.“They have their own political agenda and issues with the government and they are using my name as another stepney to try and further their agenda,” he added. The 46-year-old composer-singer was recently involved in an unseemly Twitter spat with Congress spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill.

Adnan Sami and a picture of his father, shared by Adnan on Instagram. His father’s past as a Pakistani Air Force pilot has also drawn criticism but Sami finds this argument “irrelevant”. “My father was a decorated fighter pilot and he was a professional soldier. He did his duty for his country. I respect him for that. It was his life. He got awarded for that. I did not benefit or credit from that. Similarly he cannot get credit for what I do. What is my award got to do with my father? It is irrelevant.”Politicians such as Maharashtra Minorities Development Minister and NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik had called the recognition to Sami a damage control move by the ruling BJP government at the Centre for being questioned over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and the National Register of Citizens. Also read: Akshay Kumar confirms Aanand L Rai’s Atrangi Re with Sara Ali Khan and Dhanush, says it is a ‘challenging character’Sami said he was ready to face personal and professional criticism but dragging his name into politics was unnecessary. “I am dragged into it because of politics and not because of my art. The irony of all this is that all these wonderful, rosy sentences that art knows no boundaries or art is above politics, why don’t they practise that? Leave art and artiste out of this nonsense,” he added. He said during the Congress government’s rule he was conferred with the Naushad award and he was a Pakistani citizen at that time. “Now I am an Indian citizen, perfectly entitled to be given this award. They are bringing the Pakistani element, it is funny, hilarious. They are picking up on something because they don’t have anything else to pick up on.“These are all junior guys, either they are trying to become relevant and some of them don’t know that their seniors are so respectful. I am friends with everybody, whether it’s the BJP or the Congress. I am a musician. I share love through my music,” Sami said.  During that trip to Pakistan, #RajivGandhi BONDED with @AdnanSamiLive's father. When Adnan's dad told RG about his son's music interests, RG told him to send his son to India so he can make a good career. Adnan's dad took RG up on that and here we are ..🤣pic.twitter.com/x9FQBvD4by— #Intolerant भारतीय (Sanjeev Goyal) (@goyalsanjeev) January 27, 2020 Speaking to Times Now, he mentioned how when former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had visited Pakistan, Adnan’s father (who was the chief of protocol at that time for the Government of Pakistan) has talked about Adnan’s interest in music to the late prime minister. Adnan mentioned how Rajiv had then suggested that he ought to try out his luck in India. Adnan shared a picture of his father with Rajiv and Sonia Gandhi as well.In another interview to Asian Age, he spoke about those on Twitter who thought he was too Pakistani to win a Padma Shri. He was quoted as saying, “I can understand your frustration. I have it (the Padma Shri). You don’t. I am the one being honoured by our Government. You are not. I can understand you frustration and bitterness.”Follow @htshowbiz for more Read the full article

Pandit Jasraj on turning 90, teaching music through Skype: ‘I don’t like when people say woh zamaana achha tha’ - music
Tumblr media
Quite like music, legendary classical music vocalist Pandit Jasraj is in sync with the times. The Padma Vibhushan recipient, who turned 90 on Tuesday, is not the one to look back on the years gone-by and even uses the Internet to impart his extensive knowledge in music to the young generation.“I teach through Skype. I suggest everyone to do it. I am walking with time and that’s what one should do. I don’t like when people say ‘Woh zamaana achha tha’ (Those were the good times). “I believe the current phase is good. One should not compare it with the past -- good or bad. One has to walk with time and only then you will like the current time,” Pandit Jasraj told PTI in an interview. As someone who has spent his life dedicated to Indian music, Pandit Jasraj said it is not a matter of pride for him and he constantly feels the need to improve.“I am critical of myself. I never think I have done something great. I don’t think too much about myself or my achievements. Whatever I have received is as per God’s will. I am grateful to God for that.”
Tumblr media
Pandit Jasraj performed at 67th Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Music festival in Pune.Birthdays are not a grand affair, the musician said, adding that the responsibility of the celebration this year is on his grandchildren. Recalling his first ever concert, Pandit Jasraj said, he performed in front of Nepal King Tribhuwan Bir Bikram Shah in 1952. “The king told his men to announce that he has awarded me 5,000 gold coins. I was shocked, I couldn’t believe it. I was sweating and I almost fainted, I was maybe 22-year-old then,” he said. Indian classical music is unaffected by trends but has always found patronage whether with the monarchy or now with people. “Classical music has never seen a downfall. Earlier it was under the patronage of kings. After they went away, people took care of us.” The musician said he still does ‘riyaaz’ (practice) every day but due to age, it is no longer possible to sit for hours at a stretch. Happy 90th Birthday, dearest darling dadu .. your music, your divine voice and your sweetest smile inspires and heals millions .. Wish you good health always. Love and pranaams ❤️ #PanditJasraj 🙏🏻 #90thBirthday 🎂 pic.twitter.com/yrgGz9jXQF— Shweta Pandit (@ShwetaPandit7) January 28, 2020 He often spends his leisure time playing cards, talking to people and listening to all kind of music. “I listen to western music, African music and also cinema music. My all-time favourite is Lata Mangeshkar, there is no one like her. I often talk to her. I watch movies, I catch up on films on OTT platforms. Whatever my granddaughter plays it, I see it,” he added. Also read: Priyanka Chopra trolled for dress at Grammys, Suchitra Krishnamoorthi hails actor for ‘not trying to hide her belly’True to his philosophy of walking on the beats of time, Pandit Jasraj doesn’t believe in the notion that classical music doesn’t find an audience in the younger generations. “It is just a perception. In western music, you may groove listening to it but in Indian classical music, you become calm, you listen to it peacefully. In every other form of music, your body, mind and everything moves but Indian classical music calms you down,” he said. There are already three documentaries on the musician’s life and Pandit Jasraj said wouldn’t mind if someone wanted to make a biopic on him. “If someone wants to make it, then I am ok with it,” he said.Follow @htshowbiz for more Read the full article
