Nemesis III: Time Lapse (1996)
Tumblr media
While I didn't enjoy this film, that doesn't mean you won't. No matter what I say, the people involved in this project did it: they actually made a movie. That's something to be applauded. With that established...
Also known as Nemesis 3: Prey Harder, Nemesis III: Time Lapse only does one thing right: it assumes you’ve forgotten all of Nemesis 2: Nebula. This why it reiterates its plot in great detail. If - for some reason - you’re jumping into the franchise at this point or it’s been a while since you’ve seen the second installment in the sci-fi franchise one would generously describe as “mediocre”, you won’t be lost. On the flip side, if you have seen Nebula not all that long ago, you will wonder if the flashbacks weren’t simply a way to cut costs. This isn’t the most egregious re-use of footage I’ve seen (I doubt any will ever match Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2) but it easily earns the silver medal.
Alex (Sue Price) wakes up in the desert with amnesia. As she makes her way back to civilization, she encounters the mysterious Farnsworth 2 (Tim Thomerson, who we saw in Nemesis). As her memories return, she recalls that in the future, machines have enslaved mankind, that her mother was sent back in time to keep her safe and that her descendants are humanity’s only hope. In no time, robots from the future arrive to eliminate Alex before she can have children of her own.
Told largely in flashback, this plot is needlessly convolute and complicated. Once again, we’re just watching a knockoff of The Terminator. Alex will some day give birth to John Connor and robots disguised as humans are after her. Oh, but this movie wishes it had even a fraction of the budget of the T2-3D: Battle Across Time amusement ride. If the stock footage at the beginning doesn’t give away how cheap this movie is, the special effects will. Farnsworth 2’s true robotic form will have you howling. The robots from Van-pires would laugh it off the screen. Its introduction is confusing - apparently, it projects a hologram around itself to look like a regular person - but the Blu-ray's lack of subtitle options and the audience's howls of laughter will drown out all the dialogue that explains this. I wish I could say the picture gets better from there. Farnsworth 2 has a bunch of scenes where he’s scanning Alex and the visuals don’t line up at all. Later in the movie, vehicles with what are either forcefields or cloaking devices are introduced and the effects are embarrassing.
Nemesis 3 will make you appreciate Arnold Schwarzenegger more than ever before. Like Sue Price, he was selected for his role because of his physical presence but the man’s got on-screen presence and charisma. He injects personality into the T-800. From the previous chapter, it was clear that this movie’s star has no business being in front of the camera. This is a crystal-clear confirmation. She’s dreadful; an absolute bore. If this weren’t bad enough, every actor and actress around her is equally terrible. Watching them struggle through their uninspired dialogue drains all your energy. Many of Alex's opponents are given “personalities” in the form of annoying quirks. The worst of them all has to be a set of “twin” Terminators who only look vaguely alike and have the aggravating habit of turning to each other and cackling like fairytale witches. You can't wait for it to end. Unfortunately, you remember the film is told in flashback so until Alex gets to that desert with her head injury, the movie’s got to keep going.
At 85 minutes, this is a tedious bore, which makes the running time feel merciful. While there are points where you’ll laugh, this has got to be the worst Terminator knockoff out there. The writing is wretched in both obvious ways that Rebecca Charles and Albert Pyun (who also directs this movie) should’ve seen, and in more subtle ways that you will only notice if you are determined to stay wide awake and analyze the movie. Even though I tried my best, I know I’m not going to remember Nemesis III: Time Lapse down the line, which will either prove to be a gift to my sanity, or a curse. (On Blu-ray, September 6, 2019)

Movie Tropes
2D Visuals, 3D Effects: The guardian of the Chamber of Parisa. The Horse is slightly less conspicuous, as its movements were traditionally animated, while the baroque design on it is CG.
Abnormal Limb Rotation Range: Jinda takes off her head and turns it around twice in her first scene.
Anachronism Stew: Mostly in Jinda's gags. She makes many references to modern-day movies and has a lot of props that are out of the time period, such as slot machines, top hats, etc.
Ancient Tomb: The Chamber of Parisa, whose guardian will only allow entrance to a Chosen One. For the one that it does let in, there are two rules: only touch the ring, and get out before the time limit is up.
And Now You Must Marry Me: Kofir threatens Yulia’s mother to cause a Please, I Will Do Anything! reaction and force her to marry him. He does so to make sure the former Sultana will greatly suffer seeing him take Yulia as his wife.
Answer Cut: After Kofir's line "I must find this... gilded-hearted one.", the scene cuts over to introduce the "street urchin" Hadi.
"Arabian Nights" Days
Award-Bait Song: “Here with You”.
Back from the Dead: Defied with Rule #3 of the Code of the Djinn. The phrasing of said rule suggests that it's not impossible, but that Jinda refuses due to the results typically being unpleasant. Played straight when Jinda has Ashraqat revive Giola instead.
Badass Boast: "Brand-New Friend" is part Jinda showing how powerful she is and what she's capable of, also part showing the group how lucky they are to have found Jinda.
Bait-and-Switch Character Intro: Giola the parrot is first introduced by having her spend a few moments repeating things like a normal parrot... and then say in a more humanlike voice "This biddy’s more of a nut than a know-all", revealing that she has a smart mouth and can talk properly.
Because You Were Nice to Me: Giola feels bad about continuing to help Kofir because she’s falling for Mamun. It's why she ends up switching sides.
Becoming the Mask: Giola originally pretended to be a normal human named Halima in order to steal the ring for Kofir. She later ends up actually becoming a true friend for Team Hadi after falling in love with Mamun.
Bedlah Babe: Yulia, complete with sheer veil over the mouth.
Berserk Button:
Giola: If I have ta eat those rancid crackers one more time, Imma bite SOMEBODY’S head off!
Beta Couple: Mamun and Giola. They continue their relationship after The Reveal of Giola being a parrot and not a real human as she’d presented herself to be.
Big Ball of Violence: When the guards are after Hadi for stealing fruit, they jump onto him, creating a dust cloud and when the dust clears they are shown to have incapacitated each other instead of Hadi who slipped away before the scuffle happened.
Big Damn Heroes: In the midst of the Final Battle, when Team Hadi is trapped over a pool of lava, unable to save the crystal, Giola pulls a Changed My Mind, Kid and comes flying in to help.
Big "SHUT UP!": From Giola to Kofir. "Hey, Kofir! SHUT UUUUUUP!"
Black Comedy Animal Cruelty: As a parrot, Giola endures a lot of violence from Kofir. However, Kofir never seems to have the intent to hurt Giola per se, it's more that he, out of his narcissism, doesn't care about Giola at all and treats her recklessly.
Bonding over Missing Parents: When Hadi and Yulia first talk properly in Mamun’s house, she talks about losing her father years ago, and Hadi in turn opens up about losing his parents at a young age. Both their respective parents also taught them each the same piece of music.
Came Back Wrong: Implied and defied — when Jinda says she can't bring people back from the dead, she adds "It's not a pretty picture. I don't like doing it!", implying that she actually is physically capable of bringing back the dead, but the results are... unpleasant.
Changed My Mind, Kid: Giola. She opts to bail just before the final confrontation with Kofir. Just when things are looking bleak for our heroes, Giola comes charging into the fight and manages to snatch the crystal egg before handing it off to Hadi.
Chekhov's Skill: Like some other kinds of birds, Giola is an impressive vocal mimic. In the movie, she introduces her ability to impersonate Yulia while the bird's making fun of the princess, then uses it later to trick Hadi into leaving the ring unprotected. (In her human form, no less!)
Child Marriage Veto: Yulia adamantly sticks to her guns on this.
Clockwork Creature: The Mechanical Flying Horse.
Cosmic Keystone: The crystal egg.
Cool Toy: The Sultana of Bajida collects mechanical toys.
Creepy Cute (In-Universe): The homunculus.
Curse Cut Short: When Giola spots Hadi and Mamun in the palace, she says "How in the he- uh, AWKKK!"
Darkest Hour: Kofir has usurped the Sultancy, become a powerful sorcerer, disposed of loyalists in the guard, and coerced Yulia to marry him. As Yulia's about to say her vow, she sees the others booking it from the dungeon... and then Yulia seizes the moment to renounce the vow, swipe the ring, and jump off the balcony to be caught by Horse.
Deadpan Snarker: Giola is an obvious case of this, especially in contrast to the considerably less sarcastic Kofir.
Design Student's Orgasm: Everything around the characters is stylized to the point of being abstract. Word of God says that the setting design was inspired by the works of Vittorio Zecchin and Errol Le Cain.
Destroy the Villain's Weapon: Hadi’s well-timed throwing of the crystal egg ends up knocking Kofir’s staff into the lava. Which is very unfortunate for Kofir, who had earlier bound his soul to it.
Disney Acid Sequence: “Brand-New Friend”.
Disney Death: The movie loves this. Jinda gets chucked across the garden but she's just unconscious, Horse gets demolished but gets better, and Giola is Killed Off For Real, but Ashraqat makes a quick trip to the underworld to revive the parrot.
Earn Your Happy Ending
Establishing Character Moment: Hadi’s entire introduction. He dodges the palace guards with cunning and trickery, always way ahead of them. Along with his subsequent display of kindness to two children by giving up the fruit he'd just worked so hard to get away with.
Falling-in-Love Montage: “Here with You”.
Fatal Reward: Kofir and Giola’s plan is to backstab the heroes and take the ring back to Bajida. Luckily, Giola falls in love with Mamun.
Feedback Rule: In her introductory scene, Jinda poses as an entertainer with a mic which gives off a feedback.
Felony Misdemeanor: Hadi steals a bagfull of fruit and gets a squadron of imperial guards out for his blood.
Hadi: All this for fruit?
Flat "What": Kofir’s reaction when Giola first offers to steal the ring.
Flight of Romance: “Here with You”, the mechanical flying horse ride.
Forbidden Fruit: The group comes across an ancient building full of treasure, with a sign warning them not to take anything within. Then Giola steals a giant pearl from the loot. This awakens the Living Statue who was guarding the tomb.
Freeing the Genie: At the end of the climax, the ring is destroyed in lava. Jinda is ecstatic, as this means she is now free.
Full Moon Silhouette: Hadi and Yulia pass in front of a giant full moon during their Flight of Romance.
Furry Reminder: Giola the parrot can actually speak instead of just copying people, but she keeps it a secret from all but Kofir, her evil owner, so when other people are present, she squawks and copies people.
The Genie Knows Jack Nicholson: Jinda is this to the max.
Gold and White Are Divine: The palace is decorated in these colors.
High Heel–Face Turn: Giola.
Humanity Ensues: Kofir turns Giola into a human girl to snatch the ring once Hadi retrieves it. Initially, she's not happy about this turn of events. (And she's none too fond of the whole walking thing either.) She gradually adjusts to being human as she undergoes her Heel–Face Turn, and even starts to fall for Mamun.
Hypercompetent Sidekick: Jinda. It's not that Hadi is incompetent; he just can't hope to compete with a girl who has "immense magical powers!"
I Can Explain: Giola’s “Mamun, honey, I can explain!” after she is exposed as Kofir’s parrot.
I Just Want to Be Free: Jinda.
The Imp: Giola, at first.
Internal Reveal: When “Halima” is revealed to the heroes as Giola the parrot.
In the Hood: Yulia's hood, when she's disguised as a peasant, and later a peasant boy. Human!Giola dons a hijab to hide her key necklace, which would identify her as Kofir’s parrot.
Interspecies Friendship: Hadi and Jinda, Hadi and the Horse, Yulia and Giola, Kofir and Giola. (if you consider them friends...)
Interspecies Romance: Mamun (a human) and Giola (a parrot turned into a human).
Island of Mystery: The Island of WaqWaq has ancient architecture full of treasure and a giant brass statue that comes to life.
Isle of Giant Horrors: The Island of WaqWaq is inhabited by giant brass statues that would come to life if anyone trespasses in the buildings they were guarding. Giola inadvertently ends up awakening one when she steals from the crypt he was guarding, who nearly kills the group.
I Will Punish Your Friend for Your Failure: Kofir threatens to kill Mamun unless Giola finishes her task of stealing the ring.
Keep Away: The climax has Hadi and his friends trying to get the crystal egg away from Kofir, as well as snatch his Soul Jar-converted staff. The game ends with Kofir trapping the heroes above a pit of lava, with the crystal just out of reach. Fortunately, Giola shows up in time, grabs the crystal and throws it to Hadi, who uses it to destroy the staff. Cue Kofir suffering a very Family-Unfriendly Death.
Keep the Reward: The Sultana offers to make Hadi her royal vizier because of his heroics. Hadi turns the offer down, because he wants to have adventures and see the world. (Setting up the events of the series.)
King Incognito: Yulia disguises herself as a commoner to enjoy the city.
Living Statue: WaqWaq has them. And they will kill you if you steal from them.
Lost World: WaqWaq has shades of this.
Love at First Sight: On seeing Yulia in the market-place, Hadi is immediately smitten. After he rescues her from trouble, Yulia isn't too far behind.
Love Redeems: Giola redeems because the group (especially Mamun) showed her true love and friendship, whereas Kofir just barked orders and intimidated her.
Love Theme: “Here with You”, Hadi and Yulia’s song during their Flight of Romance.
Ludicrous Gift Request: Invoked by Jinda at the end when she tries to prove to herself that she's been freed by asking Hadi to wish for the Nile. Hadi does so and she says, "No way", proving that she can refuse wishes and has therefore been freed.
Make a Wish: Anyone who gets ahold of the ring can be granted wishes by Jinda.
Medium Awareness: When Kofir has the ring:
Jinda: (after being summoned and realizing that Hadi isn't the one summoning her, with a Playbill and Opera binoculars) Tonight the part of Hadi will be played by a tall, dark, and creepy old man.
Meet Cute: As soon as Hadi sees Jinda at the marketplace, he's instantly smitten with her. Mamun and Giola too, after he encounters her human form in the hold of Daud’s ship, though they take a bit longer to become a couple.
Missing Mom: Hadi has neither a mother nor a father, which is why he lives on the street with Mamun as a thief.
Mythology Gag: Contains some references to stories from the Arabian folktale anthology, Arabian Nights.
Non-Human Sidekick: Giola to Kofir. Jinda to Hadi also, seeing as she's not really human (as well as Horse who is a sentient automaton).
Noodle Incident: When listing her rules, Jinda states "I can't bring people back from the dead! It's not a pretty picture, I don't like doing it!!!"
Nothing Can Stop Us Now!: Near the end, Kofir has Hadi and his friends at his mercy hanging over a lava pit. "Give it up, boy. There is no one here to save you now." Cue Giola arriving to save the day.
Non-Human Lover Reveal: Mamun learns that “Halima” is actually Giola the parrot. They make it work when she gains the ability to change into human form at will.
Obfuscating Stupidity: Giola the parrot pretends to be a dumb animal to everyone but Kofir for a while, but drops the façade after Kofir changes her back from human to parrot.
Oh, Crap!: Tons.
"Oh, Crap!" Smile: Human!Giola when Mamun discovers her in the hold.
Oh, My Gods!: "Allah" is inserted into various expressions.
Only the Worthy May Pass: "He with the Gilded Heart" is the only one who can enter the Chamber of Parisa.
Opposites Attract: Hadi and Yulia seem to be this at first, what with Hadi being a street urchin and Yulia being a princess, but it turns out they're actually a lot alike.
Orphaned Etymology: The name “Giola” is of Italian origin, which makes it out of place in a medieval Arabian setting.
Our Homunculi Are Different: Kofir has one, which he uses to communicate with Giola.
Over-the-Shoulder Carry: After finding Human!Giola in the hold, Mamun carries her out onto the deck of the ship for the others to see. Needless to say, she is none too thrilled about this.
Parents Are Wrong: The sultana insists that Yulia must marry a prince, in keeping with law and tradition. But Yulia falls in love with Hadi, and at the end of the movie the sultana changes the law to allow Yulia to marry whoever she wants.
Pilot Movie: The movie is essentially structured as a 3-part pilot to the series.
Primal Fear: Naga!Kofir.
Puppy-Dog Eyes: The hungry street children.
Rebellious Princess: Yulia.
Redemption Quest: Giola goes through this throughout the film.
Reptiles Are Abhorrent: Naga!Kofir brings out the only significant snake imagery in the movie.
Rescued from the Underworld: Ashraqat travels to the Underworld in order to retrieve Giola's spirit and reunite it with her body.
Rescue Introduction: Hadi meets Princess Yulia when rescuing her from a street vendor who she accidentally stole from. Leading into a mini...
Rescue Romance: Do you notice a pattern here? Hadi and Yulia first fall for each other after the rescue, and they connect further afterwards. However, while they each clearly begin to have a thing for the other, before the spark can grow the guards raid Mamun's place and cut it short before it can really start. The rest of the movie and some magical intervention is needed to continue things along.
Riding into the Sunset: At the end Hadi and Yulia ride their mechanical horse into the Gigantic Moon who turns out to be Jinda.
Scenery Porn: The film has this in full.
Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: The captain of the guards switches loyalty to Kofir after he makes himself the new sultan, as required by law, but after Yulia calls to him, he decides to support her mother.
Sealed with a Kiss: Hadi and Yulia seal their love with a kiss at the end before embarking on another flying horse ride.
Sea of Sand: The Arabian desert as portrayed in the movie seems to consist almost entirely of dunes.
Shout-Out: Damn near everything Jinda says or does.
Siding with the Suffering: Giola spends the beginning of the film on Kofir's side. After she’s turned human, Giola slowly turns face over the course of the movie. Not that Giola's all that heroic, but her conscience tends to get the better of her.
Soul Jar: Kofir’s fatal mistake is to bind his soul to his staff.
Stealth Pun: After gaining her freedom, Jinda hurriedly tells Hadi to "Wish for The Nile", and yells "NO WAY" when the latter complies. Hadi actually got what he wished for...DENIAL. It ain't just a river in Egypt.
Suddenly Suitable Suitor: Solved by the Sultana changing the law.
Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: Kofir realizes that while he may have become Sultan, he hasn't earned the loyalty of the guards or anyone else for that matter, so they can just stage a coup to put the Sultana back in power. He's only able to stop them by wishing for stronger magic and using his new abilities to physically banish them.
Sweet Polly Oliver: Yulia passes herself off as “Yusha” the second time she sneaks out of the palace.
Take Over the City: For all he wants power, Kofir never seems interested in political power beyond Bajida. Given how power-hungry he is, though, he probably would have gotten bored and/or ambitious and tried to go further if he hadn't been stopped pretty quickly.
Talking Animal: Giola. Justified in that she is a parrot.
To Be Lawful or Good: When Kofir uses the crystal egg to work his way into the Sultancy, he demands the guards serve him as the law demands. Yulia enters and calls out to the head guard and essentially poses this question: will he follow the law and obey who ever the Sultan is (even if he's a tyrant), or will he remain loyal to the well-being of Bajida's people? The head guard chooses loyalty to Yulia, the Sultana, and the people of Bajida, which spurs Kofir's Villainous Breakdown.
Tyrant Takes the Helm: Kofir briefly becomes Sultan.
Villain Reveals the Secret: Played straight when Kofir reveals “Halima’s” true identity.
Why Won't You Die?: When Hadi returns to the palace in the climax, Kofir retorts "How many times do I have to get rid of the SAME BLASTED YOUTH?!”

Kissing Dead Pearls (Part 10)
He could never find her, no matter how hard he tried. No one could find her and no one ever did. Not until she wanted them too.
“It’s just a dumb game Azula!” Zuko would always declared. “Who cares if you always win.” He did and she knew it. They all cared and they were all jealous.
She always had the best hiding spots and she owed it partially to her teeny build; she could scramble into places that none of her friends, save for Toph, could fit in. To some extent, she still can, but not as many as she could as a child.
That day she had tucked herself into a particularly tight wedge nestled in the cove. During their play, nothing was off limits, every crevice and orifice was fair game. Though they mostly avoided the cave in the cove because it was too dark and too wet.
Azula had always been more adventurous, more darling, and, in childhood, more reckless and less careful. She shambled up a large rock, it was slick and wet and she was almost certain that she would fall and give away her hiding spot with a large splash. Luck was on her side, she managed to cling on and reach the top. From there she climbed her way into the wedge and waited, listening to the waves lapping against the sandstone and the steady drip drop of the moisture leaking from the cave ceiling. She could feel slimy seaweed sloughing down her arm and she stuck her tongue out in disgust. But she would endure it for the sake of her victory streak.
A few minutes turn into ten and then ten into fifteen before she heard Sokka and Zuko declare they gave up. Their voices were distant. It took another five before Katara made her declaration.
Azula’s smugness turned to pure dread in an instant. It is the instant that she tried to pull herself out of the wedge. It was an all encompassing terror when she found that the hole in the wall was too small for even she afterall. She remembers how her stomach had sank. How another ten minutes went by and then another. A feeling of suffocation and helplessness as she tried fruitlessly to back out of the crevice. An effort that only became more worthless as the panic had set in more.
Soon it had been an hour and then two before it finally occurred to her that she should cry or, at least, scream. She intended to only scream once, but that had opened the floodgates to all out bawling.
That was all she had needed to do. “I found you!” Sokka declared smugly. She had never been more relieved to lose a game.
Hakoda’s voice was the next that she’d heard, a soothing and soft one instructing her to stop crying for a moment and to relax her body as much as possible and then to suck in her belly and duck her head as close to the floor as she could.
Strong hands wrapped around her ankles and pulled. She’d heard Ursa whimpering softly. She was given a few bone jerking tugs before her body had come free. Her knees were skinned and her cheeks and elbows scrapped. Ozai had passed her to Ursa who’d held her nearly as tightly as the cave had and caressed her hair.
She hadn’t gotten in trouble that night, they were too relieved for that, but she had earned a reputation for constant childhood accidents and mishaps.
.oOo.
She doesn’t want to go home, she wants to go anywhere but home. But the longer she delays, the madder he is going to get. Katara knows this. She usually doesn’t like to be touched, but this time she lets Katara rub her back while she sits with her elbows digging into her thighs and her face buried in her hands.
Hakoda is just as aware as Katara. “If you need to stay here until he sobers up, you can take Sokka’s bed. I know that he won’t mind.”
Azula nods despite her apprehension. She hasn’t been in his room since he’d disappeared. She isn’t sure that she can take it, not tonight. Not when her mental state is already in the beginning stages of immense turmoil.
“You don’t mind the sofa, do you, Zuko?” The man asks.
“Couch is fine.” She hears his reply from down the hall.
She puts her hand on the doorknob but can’t bring herself to turn it. She gives a slight jolt at the sound of footsteps. “It was hard for me at first, too.” Katara confesses. “But it isn’t so bad after that.”
Azula takes a deep breath and twists the knob. The door falls open and she is greeted by a familiar ambiance. His walls are painted deep blue, he hasn’t bothered to take down the ocean life wall stickers that he’d put up as a kid. In fact he still has a few stuffed sharks and jellyfish strewn about in the corner. But he has also acquired several surfboards to hang on the wall--strictly decorative. And from the ceiling hang a collection of shark teeth and a few fishbones.
The floor has as much clutter as she remembers; a stack of knocked over reggaeton and reggae albums lies at the foot of his bed near a collection of sport-themed DVD’s. Clothes, mostly socks and aloha shirts, are cast randomly about the floor and drape over a chair by a desk.
The desk teems with other trinkets; a few bobble heads, 3D photo crystals depicting jelly fish, some unopened snack bars, and a few poorly done drawings along with pencils among other things. She then finds the pictures. There is one of just he and Katara holding fishing poles. Next to that is one of their family at the grand opening of their food joint. And next to that… Her stomach flutters and her eyes prickle. He has his arm around her, flashing the camera a goofy grin. He wears the most ridiculous pineapple shaped sunglasses and a straw hat. She remembers him forcing her to wear an even more ridiculous clownfish hat and a cheap rainbow lei.
Her tear finally escapes when she sees the next photo. She doesn’t remember it having been taken. Which is probably because she is asleep in the photo. Asleep and clutching a stuffed stingray. The same one she’d had since she was a child and her parents took she and Zuko to the aquarium. She is certain that Zuko still has his stuffed turtle.
She wishes that Sokka were home, if only to kick his ass for sneaking that picture. “He really liked that one.” Katara nods to that picture.
“Yeah…” she trails off quietly. “I’m sure he did.”
“I’ll leave you alone?”
Azula nods.
“I’ll send Zuko to get you when dinner is ready.”
She nods once more.
She waits until Katara leaves to make her way to Sokka’s bed. Her lower lip trembles as she climbs into it and bunches herself into a ball. It smells like him. In some way, being tangled in his blankets is like being swaddled in his arms. But it lacks the warmth that he had. In the privacy of the room she cries more openly. For the loss of Sokka. For the loss of her mother. For the loss of her father as he used to be.
She cries for her failed attempt. For her inability to even search for Sokka. For the abuse she’d taken and for the abuse she was about to take as soon as she inevitably faced her father. He was going to reek of alcohol and testosterone.
Her eyes are dry again and she has managed to catch an hour or so of sleep when she hears the knock. “The food is ready. It smells wonderful too.” Zuko calls.
“You can meet me at the table, Zuzu.” Groggily, Azula pulls herself up. She runs her hands over her face. She knows that her makeup is smeared and her hair is tousled. It doesn’t really matter, she has no one to impress right now.
She makes her way to the kitchen and pulls out a chair. Kya offers her a loving smile and her belly flutters again. That smile reminds her too much of her mothers for her to not have to bite the inside of her lip to keep tears at bay. She is being much too sentimental tonight.
“I’m sorry that you’re having such a rough night, sweetheart.” Kya cups her hand over Azula’s.
She doesn’t seem to take much offense at Azula’s lack of an answer. She eats in silence, listening to the other four make mundane conversation mostly about shows and how the restaurant repairs are coming along. She picks at her food, not really tasting it at all. It isn’t that the food isn’t rich and scrumptious, more so that her taste buds have dulled and her appetite has fled to make room for a feeling of sorrow.
There comes a knock, a heavy knock. Azula’s stomach plummets and the rest of her appetite is sapped away.
“I think that it is better if you return home.” Hakoda fills the doorway.
“I need to talk to her.” Ozai insists. She listens for a slur.
“We are in the middle of dinner.”
“I can wait.” She doesn’t need to see him to know that he his crossing his arms.
“After dinner we have other plans.”
“The discussion will not be long.” She hears no slur and she isn’t sure if this is more or less worrisome.  She wonders if she should just get it over with. With a deep breath she stands.
“Azula…” Zuko starts. She pulls her wrist out of his grasp and makes her way to the door. Her eyes are dim and as impassive as she can will them to be.
Hakoda seems to go tense.
“Father.” She greets as dimly as her eyes.
The man looks her over and rubs his hand over his face again. “I didn’t come to the beach to fight with you.”
“But you still did it.” She mumbles, absently massaging her bruised wrists. His eyes follow her hand and find the purple-yellow. She thinks that he might have winced. She slips that hand into her pocket. “What do you want.”
He holds out an ice pack, “just to talk with you.”
“We can talk when you’re sober.” She replies with as much coldness as the pack he holds out. She retreats back into the house.
They are three of Sokka’s favorite romantic comedies in, and she still can’t get Ozai out of her mind. She wishes that Sokka could be there to watch the movies with them.
.oOo.
Being back in the lighthouse is dreadful. She knew that Hakoda and Kya couldn’t let them stay forever. Though they offered to take them back if Ozai laid a hand on either of them. Her father isn’t home yet, but this is much worse than him having waited by the door. The anxiety of waiting for him to finally arrive is getting to she and Zuko both.
Zuko spends the better portion of the day pacing around the lighthouse. She is more subdued, taking up the demeanor of a death row inmate, with a silent resignation of her fate.
The door falls open and Zuko jolts. Azula grips the edge of her chair as Ozai’s footfalls echo. “Both of you!” He calls. Zuko freezes where he stands, his body locks. Azula can feel her mind ebbing away. It has been a long time since her mind has gone distant and impassive, but it is her only defense. “Come down and have a seat.”
Zuko catches her hand as she numbly lets her feet take over. “Azula, don’t.” She shakes her head. “Better to get it over with.”
Zuko follows her down the spiral staircase. Ozai sits at the table, waiting. Feeling slightly wobbly, she takes her own seat. Zuko remains standing and a distance away from the table. When it comes to father, he might just be smarter than she.
Their father takes a deep breath, sets a stack of papers onto the table, and pushes them towards her. She quietly scans them over.
“What are those for?” Zuko asks.
She meets Ozai’s stare and he nods. “They’re...AA forms, Zuzu.”
“Khozen wouldn’t pour me another glass until I went.” He grumbles.
“How long have you been attending?” Zuko asks.
“Just a few days now.”
“Is that where you were on Monday?” Azula asks, suddenly feeling as though she had been the aggressor on the beach that day.
He pinches the bridge of his nose before confessing, “no, I was at the bar.”
“So much for, Khozen not pouring you another glass…” Zuko grumbles.
“I went to AA and he poured me a glass as he said he would.” Ozai shrugs.
“Have fun sharing that story at your next meeting.” Zuko crosses his arms. “Is that all you wanted?”
“Not quite.” Ozai replies. “I want you to take that boat that the two of you bough and return it…”
“I’m going to find Sokka.” Azula hisses. “I…”
“What you are going to do, Azula, is return that boat.” He pauses. “That money was your college fund, was it not?”
Azula flushes.
“And Zuko’s...and a good portion of our lighthouse fund.”
Her lower lip quivers.
“You are going to return that boat. Khozen’s will do us just fine and it will cost us much less.”
Azula looks up from the table. “Khonzen’s boat?”
“He used to be a pirate. He and I struck a deal. If I...succeed with this,” he gestures to the packets, “he will lend me the boat free of charge and we can go and search for answers together.” He pauses. “I lost your mother, I’m not about to let the two of you sail away without me. Understood.”
Tears well in her eyes again, but this time they are born of a different emotion. Hope, she realizes. She nods, “yes, father.”
“Does that sound fair to you?”
Frankly, she thinks that, for once, her father might be getting the short end of the deal. But then, getting clean isn’t such a terrible fate. “It does.”
“Does that sound fair to both of you?”
Zuko shifts his weight, never uncrossing his arms. “I guess.” Azula can’t blame him for his skepticism.
“Can you wait a little longer?” He asks. “Maybe help Katara and her family with La-bsters and have you surf tournaments with Chan? And then we can go out to sea.”
“Can I bring Katara?” Zuko asks.
“That is up to Hakoda and Kya.”
Azula doesn’t particularly want to delay, but the offer on the table shows more promise than spending her college fund and taking an impulsive, grief-driven expedition. “I can wait a little longer.”

How Digital Television Service Works In Residence
Well, Fate Stay Night is certainly not a boring story. I've had the pleasure of watching the first four episodes and without giving too much away; it follows the story of a young master called Shirou who ends up being involved in a massive war of the worlds. It's all about the Holy Grail and the powers that it supposedly possesses. The Series 9 are also equipped with Ultra Clear Panel system that removes ambient light for a better picture quality under bright environments; definitely no glare in here. Design is more than superior. Samsung takes pride of natural beauty through exquisite styles and lines and polished tones that appears differently in every viewing angle. Samsung Crystal TV is made of combination of wonderful colors creating a sophisticated and seamless shade progression. The second one is 28 Days Later (I'll include the sequel, 28 weeks later as well). 28 Days Later is a 2002 British Horror Film which depicts the breakdown of society. It is filled with a lot of suspense and horror. So how does society break down? Some unfortunate soul releases a highly contagious rage virus which spreads like wildfire. The movie is based on four survivors who try and cope in this strange, new environment and finds way to stay away from the blood-thirsty zombies. You will love the ease of storage this system allows for. https://mymoviehits.com/series/roswell/ onto your computer for easy access when you want them. Burn them to inexpensive discs and file them in one multi-page CD booklet eliminating the need for plastic cases. Taking https://mymoviehits.com/series/regular-show/ into it's twenty second season will mean more special features. Some features already include the Simpsons in high definition, a new opening credit sequence, and 3D effects that allow the camera to pan through the entire city of Springfield. This is a must for anyone into what is considered on of the best TV shows of all time. We also got our fair dose of television controversy. Sarah Palin got her own real life series on TLC, in which she tries to show "the wonder and majesty of Alaska to all Americans". Meanwhile, daughter Bristol competes against couples in "Dancing with the Stars", which was cause for some good old conspiracy theories.

This story of Dexter is a story of an orphaned boy who witnessed a dramatic event. Dexter's mother was murdered right before his very eyes. Soon after, Dexter was adopted by a Miami police officer named Harry Morgan. Harry quickly notice that Dexter was headed down to deep, dark path. Rather than have Dexter's life ruined by the hands of the justice system, Harry taught Dexter everything about committing the perfect crime.

Best 3D Crystal for Any Occasion
Finding a gift for a loved one can be tedious. And it is frustrating for you to spend hours looking for the right gift, only to have it underappreciated.
However, you can never go wrong with 3D crystals. They’re beautiful and timeless. They reflect light, adding to their beauty.
You get to engrave an image you are sure they will love. And the best thing is that you can buy a 3D crystal for any occasion.
You can make these gems more spectacular by adding a light base or buying one with a powerful LED.
Here are seven 3D crystals for all occasions.
1) 3D Crystal Rectangle for Christmas and Thanksgiving
A 3D crystal rectangle with a special image will show you put thought and love into a Christmas or Thanksgiving gift. For pet-lovers, get an image with their pets. As for parents, a picture of their children will be perfect.
Tumblr media
2) 3D Crystal Heart for Lovers
Whether you are attending a wedding or anniversary, a 3D crystal heart with the image of the two lovebirds will make an excellent gift. It has a flat base and can be put on any flat surface in their living room or bedroom.
Tumblr media
3) 3D Crystal Keychain for New Graduates and Birthday Celebrants
You don’t have to spend hours shopping for the perfect gift for a graduation or birthday party. A 3D crystal keychain with a picture of the star of the occasion will make your gift memorable. For a lady, you can go for a 3D crystal heart keychain while a 3D crystal rectangle keychain will be perfect for a gentleman.
Tumblr media
4) 3D Crystal Cut Corner Diamond for Your Partner
Amaze your loved one on Valentine’s Day with a 3D Crystal Cut Corner Diamond engraved with an image taken on their favourite vacation with you. You can also use their best solo photo and couple it with a love card.
Tumblr media
5) 3D Crystal Cut Corner Diamond with Sonogram Image
A 3D crystal cut corner diamond is a great change from the usual sonogram picture frames. It will make a unique gift for a baby shower or baby announcement party. If you cannot get the baby’s sonogram, a picture of the pregnant mom-to-be alone or with their spouse will do the trick.
   6)  3D Crystal Prestige with Your Parent’s Image
This will make the perfect symbol of appreciation for your parents on Mother’s Day or Father’s Day. A 3D crystal prestige is exquisite and conveniently shaped to place on any flat surface. Engrave it with an image of your parent or guardian and they are bound to treasure it.
Tumblr media
7) 3D Crystal for Memorial
Gift a loved one celebrating the life of a deceased parent, spouse, child, or guardian with a 3D crystal. You can get it in the shape of a heart, crystal prestige, crystal cut diamond corner, or crystal rectangle with an image of the departed. Any of these crystals will come with a flat base for proper placement
Tumblr media
Whether it’s a birthday gift, anniversary, or memorial, you can buy a 3D crystal for any occasion. They are excellent gifts. All you need is a high-quality image and a great choice in design. Choose the right shape and size and create a gift that will leave a lasting impression.

The Definitive Surviving Girls Of FRIDAY THE 13TH
Inspired by an article featured on VHSRevival.com I’ve decided to compile what I consider to be the definitive ranking of the FRIDAY THE 13TH series’s “final girls”. If you’re not well versed into what makes a slasher film “final girl” so special let’s break it down in simple terms: she’s gotta be the smart one, the “pure” one and in a perfect world would go head to head with the big baddie during the film’s finale, ultimately coming out on top, but not successful enough to make it through a sequel. With the ground rules set, here’s a look at the FRIDAY THE 13TH films’ worst to best “final girls”. Warning, there may be spoilers to follow.
Tumblr media
12 - Amanda Righetti - Whitney - FRIDAY THE 13TH (2009)
I’ve never kept it a secret just how much I dislike any FRIDAY THE 13TH film post-Paramount. 2009′s reboot has a few good things going for it: Julianna Guill and a pretty aggressive Jason Voorhees (Derek Mears). In all reality they’re about the only two positives I can come up with off the top of my head. What it’s lacking though is what really made the original set of FRIDAY THE 13TH films so enjoyable. Marcus Nispel’s film leans more into TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE territory than it does FRIDAY THE 13TH. It’s also short on a likable and true to form “final girl”. Righetti’s Whitney character, while by all accounts is the smart and “pure” one, is too reliant on her co-star Jared Padalecki’s Clay character to be considered Jason’s nemesis this go-round.
Tumblr media
11 - Lexa Doig - Rowan LaFontaine - JASON X (2002)
New Line Cinema’s entries into the FRIDAY THE 13TH cannon are my least favorite of the bunch. Along with JASON GOES TO HELL: THE FINAL FRIDAY, 2002′s JASON X feels almost nothing like a Jason Voorhees vehicle. Too bad for Lexa Doig, whose Rowan LaFontaine character exhibits all the “final girl” traits, but does so in a pretty terrible film.
Tumblr media
10 - Monica Keena - Lori Campbell - FREDDY VS. JASON (2003)
Monica Keena’s Lori Campbell character is really unnecessary in a film like FREDDY VS. JASON. If Jason was going to have an adversary to challenge him throughout the film’s final reel it needs only be Freddy Krueger (Robert England) right? Final girl fail!
Tumblr media
9 - Kari Keegan - Jessica Kimble - JASON GOES TO HELL: THE FINAL FRIDAY (1993)
Adam Marcus’s JASON GOES TO HELL: THE FINAL FRIDAY is not even a true FRIDAY THE 13TH film in name. It sure as hell isn’t a true FRIDAY THE 13TH film in content either. With body-swapping, newly revealed Voorhees bloodline ties and not a teenager in sight, JASON GOES TO HELL: THE FINAL FRIDAY is just a complete mess. Kari Keegan’s Jessica Kimble character, like the film she appears in, is a “final girl” by default only (she’s the last girl standing, so I guess that makes her pretty “final”). Her contributions to the “final girl” club are minimal. I guess she does get to stab Jason in the chest with a medieval dagger, that’s pretty cool, right? No!
Tumblr media
8 - Jensen Daggett - Rennie Wickham - FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VIII: JASON TAKES MANHATTAN (1989)
Ah! Finally, the Paramount Pictures contributions to the Voorhees legacy. 1989′s FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VIII: JASON TAKES MANHATTAN is easily the weakest of the first eight films, as is the “final girl” character of Rennie Wickham (Jensen Daggett). She dresses like a forty year old mom who’s given up on life, is more of a fragile character than usually required to be an imposing, and victorious “final girl”. It’s not all Daggett’s fault. In reality she's ultimately a victim of lousy writing and poor creative choices by the film’s director, Rob Hedden.
Tumblr media
7 - Adrienne King - Alice Hardy - FRIDAY THE 13TH (1980)
FRIDAY THE 13TH purists may cry foul with this one. Hear me out. As a die hard fan I love Adrienne King’s Alice Hardy. She’s the perfect “final girl”. The only real drawback to her character is that she never gets to actually go toe to toe with Jason Voorhees. In fact, the one and only time (not counting the first film’s dream sequence finale) she comes face to face with Mr. Voorhees (in 1981′s FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 2) she takes an ice pick to the temple! Her “final girl” days were over at that point.
Tumblr media
6 - Lar Park Lincoln - Tina Shepard - FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VII: THE NEW BLOOD (1988)
In 1987 when Paramount Pictures and New Line Cinema couldn’t come to an amicable agreement on potentially featuring both of their marquee horror icons in one film, Paramount forged on with another “versus” idea. Jason versus “the new blood” (I guess that’s what they meant by that title) Tina Shephard (Lar Park Lincoln). Tina fits the mold of the “final girl” perfectly. Add to that fact that she also comes equipped with almost supernatural, telekinetic powers, and old Jason was in for one heck of a showdown in his sixth outing, and the seventh overall FRIDAY THE 13TH film.
Tumblr media
5 - Kimberly Beck - Trish Jarvis - FRIDAY THE 13TH - THE FINAL CHAPTER (1984)
Ask me now, ask me in one hundred years, what is the best FRIDAY THE 13TH film? Hands down, 1984′s FRIDAY THE 13TH - THE FINAL CHAPTER. Joe Zito’s film has everything the series has come to be known and loved for. In the fourth entry, Kimberly Beck’s Trish Jarvis, along with her younger brother Tommy (Corey Feldman) put a (temporary) end to the hockey masked killer. Trish is fierce and just as brutal with old Jason as he is with her. She protects her brother, faces her fears head on and ultimately holds her own quite well against Crystal Lake’s most famous resident.
Tumblr media
4 - Dana Kimmell - Chris Higgins - FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 3 - 3D (1982)
By 1982, the slasher genre’s “final girl” had become well defined. The third FRIDAY THE 13TH entry runs with that established characterization with no hesitation. Dana Kimmell’s Chris Higgins not only finds herself alone, one on one with the seemingly unstoppable force that is Jason Voorhees, but the film, halfway through clues us in that she’s sort of been through this before, having had an encounter with Jason in her younger days that she can’t quite completely recall. Maybe it was her earlier experience with Jason that prepped her for her Higgins’ Haven redux. She hangs the big fella, whacks him in the back of the noggin with a log and a shovel, stabs him in the leg and even tattoos him in the dome with a full on swing of an ax. She thinks and works quickly, constantly keeping herself one step ahead of Jason throughout the entire final reel of the film. Kimmell’s “final girl” would definitely top the list if it were not for our final three candidates.
Tumblr media
3 - Jennifer Cooke - Megan Garris - FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VI: JASON LIVES (1986)
Jennifer Cooke’s Megan Garris character is not so much a “final girl” as much as she’s the partner in crime with the sixth film’s “final guy” Tommy Jarvis (Thom Mathews). Why so high on the list then? For starters she’s hot. That counts for something, right? Seriously though, she’s one tough cookie. Not content with just going along for the ride, Megan helps Tommy along the way, compiling all the necessities to return Jason to his watery grave once and for all (?). She even steps in to save the day when Jason gets the best of Tommy during the film’s finale, on the water Crystal Lake fight scene. Just as Dana Kimmell’s Chris Higgins character did in the third film, Megan leaves a permanent mark on Jason’s infamous hockey mask (thanks to her quick thinking and a readily available boat propeller), something that would visually define Jason’s trademark mask throughout the seventh film.
Tumblr media
2 - Melanie Kinnaman - Pam Roberts - FRIDAY THE 13TH PART V: A NEW BEGINNING (1985)
I know what you’re thinking. “But Pam never fought Jason, she fought the impostor, Roy”. Well, factually speaking you’d be right. And if you took what I said about Adrienne King early and applied it here, then theoretically Melanie Kinnaman’s Pam Roberts should also be lower on the list. I say you’re wrong though. Kinnaman’s final showdown with Roy (Jason impostor or not) is the stuff of FRIDAY THE 13TH legend. She’s tough, protective of her younger costar (similar to Kimberly Beck in FRIDAY THE 13TH - THE FINAL CHAPTER) Reggie (Shavar Ross) and aggressive when it comes to taking on the masked murderer intent on putting an end to her. She wields a chainsaw for Pete’s sake! Plus, let’s not forget she looks pretty darn good doing all of this!
Tumblr media
1 - Amy Steel - Ginny Field - FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 2 (1981)
Amy Steel’s Ginny Field is one bad ass chick! Her showdown with Jason is pretty standard fare when you stack it up against the others in the series. What sets her apart though is her quick thinking and use of psychology to take on Jason when the chips are down. Tricking Jason into thinking she’s his beloved mother by donning her rotten sweater in an effort to strike the death blow on the confused Voorhees may have worked had it not been for one false move. No biggie though, she still lays the smack down on him by way of a machete in the shoulder blade that not only saves herself, but her boyfriend Paul Holt as well, who is in a life or death struggle with the maniac until she lands the fateful whack. Like the character of Tommy Jarvis in the later films, it would have been great to see the Ginny Field character return to do battle with Jason again. Amy Steel has talked about her willingness to return to the series, so maybe, fingers crossed, us fans will one day see the return of the greatest “final girl” in FRIDAY THE 13TH history. A boy can hope!
