ohh i do wanna know more about singapore’s education! i have an overseas friend currently studying architecture in nyp i believe! and she’s sooooo stressed and never has much time anymore and have basically isolated herself except for her bf and online :(( it’s really stressful for her in architecture but i hope you’re having fun in your current diploma! since your internship starts next month, you have a company assigned (?) for you already, right? not too sure but my friend told me she’s in the 2nd semester so hers has not been assigned yett
oh? your friend is also in nyp? I’m also in nyp!
well, they don’t assign the company to us. we have to email to company and get interviewed then from there we’ll see if we can get in or not. if you can’t then you just have to keep trying with other companies🙃
hmm, well. Singapore education system is quite simple (to a local) but they have changed since I graduated from secondary school💀
sit back, it’s gonna be a long read😪
we have preschool:
nursery then kindergarten. just simple stuff. we also have homework there but it’s simple.
they also have religious kindergartens here for Muslims who want to enrol their kids into it. I was in one but that school went bankrupt 💀 so I went to a normal kindergarten after that.
then we have primary school:
(7-12 years old) primary 1 to primary 6
At P6, PSLE which is like a major exam for you to get into secondary school. it used to follow grading of like points. let’s say you get A then it will be the range of like 75-90. hence, some people can have until 200 aggregate.
But they are changing it to if you have A, you get 1 point so the lowest you can get is 6 points as there is only 6 subjects you’ll learn in primary school.
secondary school:
(13-17/18 years old) secondary 1-4 or 5.
based on my time for secondary school, we are split into 3 ‘categories’ Express, Normal Academic (NA) and Normal Technical (NT). Express is usually for the fast-paced learners and those who got high scores for PSLE. NA is just for the normal ones scores. NT is for the slower ones. what we usually say, don’t quote me on this Singaporeans who were in NT🙏🏻
It also depends on like your score that you got for PSLE and also on the school’s PSLE range for last year. They usually give like a booklet of the school’s past aggregate scores that students enrolled in. like legit a range.
For example, let’s say I have score of 160 (ehem I did actually get that. I was not smart in school) then you look through the booklet and you see the lowest aggregate score for Express is 180. oops, you can go in Express. so you look at NA and the lowest 140. yay, you can go into that school as an NA student. Overall, I think you can fill up your list to 6 schools. 1 being the most you wanna go in.
At Sec 1-2, you’ll be learning everything. From doing Home Economics (cooking basically) to Design and Technology(DNT) and Art. Science is just science. You learn history, geography and social studies.
At Sec 3, you’ll split classes based on which elective you’d like. There is Additional Math (A Math), Principles of Accounting (POA), Art, DNT and Home Economics. You can choose Biology, Chemistry, Physics. There is options of taking Purely just one science subject. There is also combined science where you take Bio + Chem or Physics + Chem or Physics + Bio. Oh and you can also pick to do either Geography or History but have to take Social Studies along with it as it is a must.
At Sec 4, we have ‘N’ Levels. this is mainly for the NA and NT students only. For Express, they have ‘O’ Levels. After this, they can choose to go ITE or Polytechnic (based on your scores)
For NA Students, if you do well in your ‘N’ Levels and get a score lower than 11 points. You can go direct to polytechnic. If not then ITE or move forward to Sec 5 where you basically just study for another year and then do ‘O’ Levels bc you’ll be learning what the Express learnt just a year later.
as far as I know now, I think they are like abolishing this whole Express, NA and NT thing and just putting everyone with the same learning speed and interest into one study group. i have zero idea about this since i already graduated a long time ago before this thing happened. my sister’s age group is like getting experimented on.
If you go ITE:
no age range. I was like 18-19 when I went ITE🙃
if you didn’t do well, you have to go through ITE. Mostly are NA and NT. idk about Express students though🤔 my Express friend went to Polytechnic straight so idk.
there are 3 ITE Colleges; East, West and Central.
the locals here usually say if you go ITE that means you aren’t good at studying or you’re lazy. However, that doesn’t essentially mean it. Maybe you didn’t do well in secondary school and are wanting to do better for a change so you do better in ITE then further your studies.
there are actually a lot diplomas in ITE. Business Schools, Art Schools, Social Service, Beauty and Wellness. You even have the option to do Work & Study. Basically, you get a job and also study at the same time. So like basically college💀
there is a nitec and higher nitec. nitec is basically 4 years, like starting from the bottom cause you’re fresh out of secondary school as an NA or NT student. Higher Nitec is usually for Sec 5 students or if you do well but not well enough to go directly to Polytechnic after ‘N’ Levels (I believe so💀)
For Polytechnic (or as I call it poly):
again no age range. I am literally like 22 and in poly when everyone in my class are like 19-20 years old. I am also 1 out of the 2 other 02’liner in the class. The rest are 03, 04 and 05 liners. Mostly 05 liners💀
besides the route of directly going to poly, you can also go from ITE to poly. it’s a longer route but it works. That’s what I did.
Many diplomas and various schools. Like design and other ones.
There is 5 polytechnics; Singapore Polytechnic, Temasek Polytechnic, Nanyang Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Republic Polytechnic.
If you go from NA to Poly, it’s called ‘Polytechnic Foundation Programme’ (PFP, for short). This will be 1 year of just learning basic stuff about your course. After that, you move onto Year 1. Total you will have 4 years in poly
For normal umm, times. It’s 3 years of poly. Year 1-2 is just studying, learning about your course. Year 3 consists of internship and final year project (FYP). Each is 6 months. Then you graduate.
For internship there is two groups, the lecturers or teachers split your cohort into 2. There is Cohort A and Cohort B. If you’re in A, you’ll go to internship first for 6 months before coming back and doing your FYP. As Cohort A is doing their FYP, Cohort B will go out for their internship as they did their FYP first.
After all of this, yay graduation!!!
You can also further your studies 😍 but I’m not doing that. I am done.
We still have universities🧍🏻‍♀️ oh and you can also go private schools but I am not explaining that💀 too complicated and I didn’t go to a private school besides the kindergarten I went to.
we also have SOTA/NAFA/LASALLE – art school/performing arts or anything art related.
and many more🧍🏻‍♀️ I can’t even think of anymore. I tried my best to explain it but good lord, there is a lot. It’s even worse because they decided to change the educational system when I already graduated. Now, I really could say “back in my day, this was like this.” MAN IM OLD💀

Entrepreneurial Program-Tech Firm-Start your own business in 6 months job at RENO+ Holdings Pte Limited Anywhere
Our VR panorama tour platform: http://www.cool720.com.
RENO+ is the very first company in Southeast Asia that integrates interior designers, renovation contractors, and furnisher supplier within one platform to offer a complete one-stop solution to provide a better renovation journey.
Entrepreneurial Program-Tech Firm-Start your own business in 6 months
Learn how to setup a company and start your own company in oversea market in 6 month.
Advantages of Entrepreneurial Program in Cool720.com
You want to get your hands dirty and learn first-hand on the ground just how a small technology company really runs, and to be deeply involved in this process.
You want to be recognised and measured by the results of your own two hands, and not be the paper qualifications you possess/not possess, and definitely not by the perfect 4.0 GPA you may/ may not have. In return, you will learn to measure a company not by how much money it raised, nor by the sheer amount of press coverage it gets, not by the “cool hip” factor of being associated with it, but by how much revenue it is making and will be making in the future, by the impact of how much value it creates for itself, its stakeholders and its clients.
You have the insatiable need to get meaningful and productive things done rather than wasting your time on Facebook/Twitter/Instagram; you don’t fancy being stuck behind a desk and abhor going for meaningless time-wasting mind-and-ego-inflating shallow events. You actively seek problems to fix, and “getting things done” is as natural as breathing to you. To you, anywhere is an office as long as you can get your tasks done, and anytime is the measure of your capabilities and abilities to perform.
Responsibilities and Duties
As an entrepreneurial intern at Cool720.com, you will be given multiple challenges to meet, genuine opportunities to learn and the ability to decide what you want to earn. With numerous ongoing product representation negotiations and contract signings, ongoing sector-segmented marketing campaigns, active expansion activities into Asian countries, a massive overhaul operation on all corporate materials, a broader engagement strategy on virtual tour community engagement, there is never a dull moment.
You will be working alongside the Managing Director, Senior Consultants, Operations Staff, R&D Engineer and 2 Entrepreneurial Interns for a minimum of 6 months up to a maximum of 2 years (we are fine with you doing this internship during your school term) on any combination of the belowmentioned areas; do note that this list is NOT exhaustive:
Business Development
Structure existing and new products/services into sector-based solutions
Create/rewrite/refactor product/services corporate collateral
Work together with the direct mail staff on monthly campaigns
Streamline and clean up the direct mail campaign regional databases
Establish and nurture new channels in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Philippines, Middle East, Europe, US for certain key product lines
Work with existing clients to better understanding their needs (current and future), and structuring engagement plans for next 12 months for each individual client
Re-work existing sales deck, re-factor into segment-based decks
Meet with new clients and present together with either Managing Director or business development staff
Design, deploy and maintain business development campaigns, including lead generation and relationship building
Operations
Work on improvements on internal processes and digitizing/automating certain key business processes
Explore streamlining existing corporate information (generation and management) structure
Assist in writing proposals
Assist in corporate brand streamlining campaign
Work with contractors in translating corporate collateral into Bahasa Indonesia, Bahasa Melayu, Tagalog and Thai
Improve on our existing Corporate Social Responsibility programmes
Re-develop regional sales team engagement strategy, incentive structure, corporate materials and demo equipment policies and support
Requirements
Having the Right Mindset
Ask not what your internship can do for you, but what you can do for yourself, your mentor and your own future.
You are a person that measure your internship not by the hours you clock-in but by the number of opportunities you can seize and act upon.
In your work, you ensure that your yes is yes, and your no is no. Your focus is on the needs of the customer, not on yourself or your personal comfort.
You believe that if anything is to be done, it must be done to the very best of your abilities; you do not give excuses and find someone/something else to blame.
You expect, and even demand that your internship to be one where you will stretch your limits and discover your potential to the fullest, outside your years spent in theory-based educational environments. You always seek to do what is meaningfully hard, not what is convenient and a easy addition to your “feather in your cap” collection.
No Age and Gender Discrimination
Whether you are a fresh GCE O level graduate (Nicholas started his first company right after his GCE O levels when he was 16) or a corporate person looking into an entrepreneurial career and wanting to get your feet wet in a rapidly changing entrepreneurial environment, feel free to apply!
Less Emphasis on Educational Qualifications
We do not scrutinize your educational qualifications. While we recognise that being able to communicate and write in basic English is important, these are the X-factors that we will really look out for:
Ability to get things done, and done well
Work autonomously; this is an Entrepreneurial internship after all
Have a great attitude; knowing how and when to say Please, Thank You and I am sorry is critical
Always going the extra mile; we aim to please
Continuous learning; we recognize that we learn by doing, and that making mistakes are fine as long as we correct ourselves.
Listen actively and pro-active in finding solutions to problems (rather than wait for instructions)
Have a good moral compass; we do business right.
So GCE ‘O’ level, GCE 'A’ level students, ITE graduates, Polytechnic and University graduates, are all welcome!
How to Apply for the Entrepreneurial Internship
If you like what you are reading so far, send in your application and tell us the following (a paragraph for each question is good enough, we just want to know what makes you tick):
1. Why you are the person we must have on our team.
2. Tell us about what you want to achieve in your life and how this internship would play a critical role in your life journey.
3. Tell us what you want to take up (in the section “Responsibilities and Duties”) and how you intend to work on these areas, should you be given the opportunity to do so.
OPTIONAL: If you have any of the additional skills below, please do flag them out in your application:
Language fluency in Bahasa Melayu, Bahasa Indonesia, Thai, Tagalog, Myanmar
Prior experience and existing connections from working in the interior design, renovation, real estate,  tourism & hospitality, photography sectors
Designing of print and/or web materials
Knowledge and experience in integrating administrative structures
Corporate sales experience
Technical skills in computer/mobile hardware and software (including troubleshooting)
Note: There is NO internship allowance Basic Business Training phase(Average Three to Six month). As an Entrepreneurial Intern of our company, once you are past your Basic Business Training phase, you are able to negotiate on the area(s) of business/profit centres YOU will lead and run, and on the profit spilt you would receive from the work and deals that you successfully made and closed.
Should your experience with us be fruitful and meaningful, we are willing to explore the possibilities of retaining you in the company for full-time positions or encourage you to expand oversae market and start your own business.

You expect, and even demand that your internship to be one where you will stretch your limits and discover your potential to the fullest, outside your years spent in theory-based educational environments. You always seek to do what is meaningfully hard, not what is convenient and a easy addition to your "feather in your cap" collection.
So GCE 'O' level, GCE 'A' level students, ITE graduates, Polytechnic and University graduates, are all welcome!
3. Tell us what you want to take up (in the section "Responsibilities and Duties") and how you intend to work on these areas, should you be given the opportunity to do so.

Hi!
I’m Leonidas, a year 3 student pursing the Business and Social Enterprise (BZSE) course in Ngee Ann Polytechnic. I will be working with the Ngee Ann Polytechnic Consumer Co-operative Society Limited (NP Co-op) for my internship semester.
Here is a little something about myself. I really enjoy basketball, cycling, bowling and playing computer games. The activities mentioned are basically how I spend my days, apart from school and part-time work. An interesting fact about me is that I participated in an inter-class Debate Competition despite being one of the most quiet and soft-spoken individuals in class.
Before embarking on my internship journey with NP Co-op, I did not have much knowledge on the NP Co-op. Even the term “Co-operative” was foreign to me. It turns out that the definition of a co-operative is quite straightforward. A co-operative has a definition related to “involving mutual assistance in working towards a common goal.” The business definition of a co-operative is not that far off as it is described as an organization owned and run by members who share profits or benefits.
Despite my lack of knowledge and understanding on the co-operative, I was given an opportunity to work with NP Co-op. I am looking forward to an enriching 6 month journey with NP Co-op as I get to learn more about how the co-operative functions as a whole. What I wish to achieve through this Internship would be to get exposed to all the different functions of the co-operative and to develop myself into a confident individual who is not afraid to take initiative.
Hopefully, I would be better prepared for my work life in the future through this 6 month learning journey. I am looking forward to seeing what the NP Co-op has to offer and how this experience can help me grow.

Dialogue in the Dark Singapore
Hey all! For today’s post i’m going to be talking about a Social Enterprise (SE) called Dialogue in the Dark (DiD) Singapore! Dialogue in the Dark originated from Frankfurt, Germany back in 1988. It was brought to Singapore in 2009. They are located in Ngee Ann Polytechnic and it serves as a learning and teaching facility to the students and also the general public. DiD offers services such as Workshops for corporates that are conducted in complete darkness and also its flagship tour where visitors experience what it is like to be in the shoes of a blind person.
For this post, we are going to explore DiD’s internship opportunities and how they have been managing a high turnover rate over the years.
New batch of interns every 6 months
DiD Singapore is the only one under Dialogue Social Enterprise that hires interns to run its daily operations. Since internship period usually lasts for about 6 months, they experience a high turnover rate. In total, they have trained over 150 interns across these years. I personally feel that there are pros and cons to this, but seeing how DiD is still standing strong in the industry proves that the pros definitely outweighs the cons.
A con that i have identified is that having a high turnover rate might take a toll on the full-time staff. The supervisors handling the interns at their early stages will have to deal with similar first-timer mistakes after every other 6 months. This might affect the work morale of the full-time staffs. Besides that, the quality of the service provided will also be affected. Within a short period of time, interns were being given over operational duties and responsibilities. Also, as the business is not able to close for training for a long period of time, they might not be ready to handle the business operations.
However, on-the-job training is proven to be an effective way to the develop employees. With this it comes with risk of not being able to perform their optimal in their early stages. However, from the way DiD is holding up now, they must have a strong management team to be able to guide the interns until they are familiar with the operations and are able to run programs smoothly.
Special projects
In this article, a former intern turned employee of Dialogue in the Dark Singapore, Joshua Leong, states that interning in DiD had gave him “empowerment to make decisions” and also a “sense of responsibility”. In DiD, interns are given opportunities to take up existing projects or even come out with new ideas. An example of an intern-initiated project would be HI Cream.
HI Cream was launched by two interns in April last year. HI Cream aims to promote Deaf awareness by selling ice cream through the use of Sign Language. Since its launch, HI Cream has been involved in many Ngee Ann polytechnic events and also external events. The most recent one would be a private Youth Corps event where they had engaged DPM Teo Chee Hean in Sign Language!
Being one of the pioneers of the Social Enterprise scene in Singapore, DiD had definitely set itself apart from other Social Enterprises. With a unique business model and services offered, they have a strong potential to develop, grow and also polish more student interns in the future!
