This. This right here. This is why 𝘕𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘞𝘢𝘵𝘤𝘩 makes me cry 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘥𝘢𝘮𝘯 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 I read it. This is why Sir Terry's books have always meant so much for me. Because Sam Vimes is far from the only character to, in a moment of ultimate choice, go 'what is RIGHT and GOOD is more important than anything else and I wouldn't be who I am if I didn't act on that belief'.

And because Pratchett 𝘨𝘰𝘵 𝘪𝘵.

𝗧𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗵. 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗼𝗺. 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲. The ideals. Yes, we should fight for them. (But let's all remember Death's words: they're just stories humans tell ourselves so we can be human. They only matter so long as we 𝘣𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘷𝘦 in them. Grind the universe down to individual atoms and there won't be an atom of justice to be found. So 𝘣𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘷𝘦.)

𝗥𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲. The practicals. The seamstresses of the world need to make a living too and 'free love' will put them out of business, so let's find a compromise.

𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗮 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱-𝗯𝗼𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝗴𝗴. Because when everything's gone to hell, when the world's gone absolutely Bursar and you don't know what shape tomorrow is going to come in, if it comes at all, when the people around you can't agree on what's important and what isn't... the small things matter.

Now if you'll excuse me I have to go use my towel to wipe up my tears while I reread what may be the best Discworld book of all.

'Well,' said Sam, 'she says she's going to make you some Distressed Pudding, sarge. She makes great Distressed Pudding, our mum.'

The best, thought Vimes, staring into the middle distance. Oh gods. The very best. No one has ever done it better.

Last Movie I Watched: The Psych movie, if that counts.  The Shape of Water if not.

Top 3 TV Shows: Hard to choose.  I have very strong feelings about Leverage and Farscape.  Having just rewatched it, Psych’s another one I have a lot of emotions about.  Of course The Wire remains classic.  I got bored with Game of Thrones.  Agents of SHIELD really got its act together.  DS9 was the best Star Trek.

Top 3 Characters: That really depends on media and time. All of these are off-the-cuff, in this moment, subject to change without notice, important-to-me but not necessarily best of all time. A scattering from various media: Sam Vimes, Spider-Man, Luke Skywalker.  I’m a Marvel zombie, so I have a lot of strong feelings about a lot of those characters, especially the fuckups just trying to do the right thing (Spidey, Cyclops, Daredevil, etc.).

Top 3 Bands: Again, not really “top”, just “important”, Bad Religion, Warren Zevon, Skinny Lister

Books I’m Reading: I’m on a brief hiatus from actual books after tearing through a few in December and binging on some TV rewatches.  I’m thinking I might try the Ancillary Justice series next.  Previously finished up What the Hell Did I Just Read?: A Novel of Cosmic Horror, the third book in the series that started with John Dies at the End.
