this is the most succinct way i can think to put it:
nica and dimitri fail to overcome their struggles due to their flaws, but they overcome them and get “good endings.” emily and oliver struggle similarly to nica and dimitri respectively, but don’t overcome their flaws, setting them up for “bad endings.”
if emily and oliver are supposed to be the “bad ends” to nica and dimitri’s “good ends”, then what does that say about leon and ethan? how is leon a “good end” when he died for his hubris, and how could ethan’s hubris possibly make ethan end up worse than leon did?
