What to anticipate on the AWS certification practice test
Suppose you’re developing apps on the AWS cloud or seeking to get started in cloud computing. In that case, certification is a great approach to get an in-depth understanding of essential AWS platform services. AWS now provides nine certificates covering the critical cloud occupations such as Solutions Architect, Developer, and SysOps Administrator. Exams are available at the associate and professional levels for specialist areas (advanced networking, big data, and security) and cloud practitioner, which is based on AWS fundamentals and is targeted for business positions outside the IT sector. You’ve Got the Talent. So, what now?
Here’s everything you need to know to pass the exam. Different Types of Questions If you’ve been studying hard and completing practice quizzes and tests, you should have a good understanding of the content. Each AWS certification exam includes a vast amount of information, and you must have a thorough grasp of each topic to pass with confidence.
AWS certification examinations include multiple-choice or multiple-answer questions. Each question is based on a real-world event and may contain visuals or charts for clarification.
Multiple Choice questions provide four or more alternative answers to a problem, with only one correct response.
Multiple-choice questions offer you four or more alternatives and ask you to choose two or more of the best responses. This implies that there will be several right solutions.
Questions are purposefully crafted to be vague to assess the breadth of your knowledge. Please read them carefully (but fast) and never make conclusions based on knowledge other than what is given in the question. Exam Structure All AWS Certification Tests follow the same structure, which displays you one question at a time.
When a question is provided to you, you will have the opportunity to “mark for later.” When you have completed all of the questions, the system will provide a list of all of the questions that you answered. Each question will display the letter choice you choose (s). Any question that has been “marked for later” will have an asterisk next to it. At this stage, you can quickly go over the questions you skipped or double-check your work. Exams for AWS Certification:
AWS Certified Solutions Architect-Associate and AWS Certified Developer-Associate certifications are available.
Time and format: 65 questions in 130 minutes. Associate AWS Certified Developer Time and format: 65 questions in 130 minutes. Associate AWS Certified SysOps Administrator Duration: 80 minutes
AWS Cloud Practitioner Certification 90-minute time limit Exams for AWS Professional and Specialty Certification Duration: 170 minutes
AWS introduced new associate-level examinations for AWS Certified Solutions Architect and AWS Certified Developer in 2018. In September 2018, the AWS Certified SysOps Administrator — Associate exam will be revised. The latest SysOps Administrator exam is 80 minutes long. The AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner test is 90 minutes long.
The Professional- and Specialty-Level AWS certification tests have a complete duration of 170 minutes. Currently, the following Professional-level certification tests are available: — AWS Certified Solutions Architect — Expert - AWS Certified DevOps Engineer — Expert AWS Specialty Certification tests for Advanced Networking, Big Data, and Security are offered.
For entrance to the exam, you must present two pieces of personal identification. Primary forms of identification include a valid and current government-issued driver’s license and passport; secondary forms of identity include debit/ATM cards or a second primary ID form.
Personal things (notes, phones or computers, bags, notepads), food, or drink are not permitted in the AWS exam area due to rigorous security protocols. Eyewear, watches, and GPS tracking gadgets worn inside the testing area may be inspected as well. The test proctor might provide you with a pencil, paper, or a whiteboard. The initial phases of the exam scheduling process explain the entire entrance standards and security processes. Following the Exam
Following the completion of the exam, the system will immediately display your results on the screen. AWS determines whether you pass using a statistical technique. Therefore there is no one passing score, and passing scores are subject to change. The ideal strategy is to study as much as possible to obtain the maximum possible score.
If you want to take the exam again, you will have 14 days to do so. Congratulations if you pass! You will get an AWS Certified logo, e-certificate, and digital badge in your AWS Certification Account within 72 hours of passing your test. You may use digital badges to broadcast your status on LinkedIn, Facebook, and other social networking sites. Within five business days of finishing the exam, a transcript of your exam results will be available in your account.

The 12 AWS Certifications: Which is Right for You and Your Team?
As companies increasingly shift workloads to the public cloud, cloud computing has moved from a nice-to-have to a core competency in the enterprise. This shift requires a new set of skills to design, deploy, and manage applications in cloud computing.
As the market leader and most mature provider in the cloud computing space, AWS is considered a thought leader and point of reference for all of its competitors. In 2020, AWS continues to lead in public cloud adoption, and it currently offers 12 certifications that cover both foundational and specialty cloud computing topics.
Why choose the right AWS certification? Here’s why it matters.
Choosing the right AWS certification: What’s the value?
Getting AWS certified shows that you have some of the most in-demand (and profitable) skills as validated by one of the most recognizable entities in cloud computing. In the enterprise, certification demonstrates a shared understanding of a platform, a shared terminology, and a certain level of cloud expertise that can speed up time to value for cloud projects.
    Why is AWS certification important?
Even as enterprises adopt multi-cloud strategies, this doesnt diminish the importance of an AWS certification – quite the opposite. With more than one million customers, AWS is still the provider of choice for public cloud adoption, where 64% of enterprises and 68% of SMBs are running applications (according to the 2018 RightScale State of the Cloud Report). Continued strong financial performance, a constant stream of new services, and a continuous geographic expansion (including a dedicated intelligence community region announced in 2017) are an indication that there is still much more to come.
 Candidate certifications
AWS certifications themselves stand out for their rigor and thoroughness in evaluating a candidate’s skills, with an emphasis on hands-on experience and best practices. If you’re already working with AWS, preparing for a certification can help strengthen your knowledge by clarifying key concepts. If you’re new to AWS, it can provide the foundational knowledge and skills you’ll need to work with AWS services and solutions down the road. For organizations looking for new recruits, AWS certifications validate a candidate’s familiarity and knowledge of best practices in cloud architecture, management, and security.
 Employer certifications
In the enterprise, the core training materials used to prepare for AWS certifications are a valuable component in a company’s own internal training path. As IT environments become more customized and requirements for new skills grow, an increasing number of companies are building their own certification programs. Many of them are using vendor certification training paths in connection with internal training materials to stand up certification tracks specific to their business needs.
How long does it take to become AWS certified?
With a full-time job and other commitments, investing 80 hours of study usually takes two months. If you are entirely new to AWS, we recommend approximately 120 hours or three months to prepare. Start with the fundamentals, and then move to the Solutions Architect – Associate Learning Path.
 Which cloud certification is best?
AWS currently offers 12 certifications: a foundational certification, three associate-level certifications, two professional-level certifications, and six specialty certifications. You can find a full overview of all Learning Paths to prepare for the certifications on the Cloud Academy’s AWS Certifications page.
 AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner

How do I become AWS certified?
While there are not set-in-stone steps to studying for the AWS certification, these steps are the most straight-forward.
Enroll in an AWS training class, such as any of the ones mentioned in this article. They will certainly increase your knowledge of cloud computing and AWS.
Review any Study or Exam Guides available.
Read multiple AWS whitepapers. These hold some invaluable information, which may answer many of your questions.
Practice, practice, practice. Practice exams will help ease any worries or stress you may be having about the certification exam.
Schedule the exam once you are ready. It typically takes anywhere from 80-120 hours of practice/studying to be prepared for the exam based on experience and the certification you are pursuing.
Let’s take a closer look at each exam.

Since 2015, AWS has had a team of solution architects working with customers to make sure they are using AWS services in a way that meets best practices around a set of defined criteria. Today, the company announced a new Well Architected tool that helps customers do this themselves in an automated way without the help of a human consultant.
As Amazon CTO Werner Vogels said in his keynote address at AWS re:Invent in Las Vegas, it’s hard to scale a human team inside the company to meet the needs of thousands of customers, especially when so many want to be sure they are complying with these best practices. He indicated that they even brought on a network of certified partners to help, but it still has not been enough to meet demand.
In typical AWS fashion, they decided to create a service to help customers measure how well they are doing in terms of operations, security, reliability, cost optimization and performance efficiency. Customers can run this tool against the AWS services they are using and get a full report of how they measure up against these five factors.
“I think of it as a way to make sure that you are using the cloud right, and that you are using it well,” Jeff Barr wrote in a blog post introducing the new service.
Instead of working with a human to analyze your systems, you answer a series of questions and then generate a report based on those answers. When the process is complete you generate a pdf report with all the recommendations for your particular situation.
Image: AWS
While it’s doubtful that such an approach can be as comprehensive as a conversation between client and consultant, it is a starting point to at least get you on the road to thinking about such things, and as a free service, you have little to lose by at least trying the tool and seeing what it tells you.

AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate Training - The Best Courses
AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate Training - The Best Courses
Are you looking for AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate Training and struggling to find the best courses?
As an Enterprise Architect working with cloud computing, I often get asked for recommendations on the best instructor-led online training and practice exams. This article provides some recommendations for how to get started. Read on for tips on making sure you select the best courses to ensure exam success.
My standard approach to training on a technology that is new to me is to start by getting some hands-on practice. With cloud computing this is generally very easy as you can simply sign up for an account and start playing with the services available.
Most public cloud providers offer some kind of program where you can get some bonus credits or free-tier services too, so you don't even need to pay. You can sign up for AWS free tier here.
As an example the resources available in free tier the following images show what is provided just in the compute category:
Tumblr media
When training for certifications, you also need to ensure that you follow the exam blueprint and learn exactly what you need to pass the exam. With AWS there are so many services available you can’t study them all and need to know which ones will be covered on the exam.
You must also ensure you focus on the right concepts. You may be interested in learning concepts relevant to operations or development, but if you're taking the Solutions Architect exam you need to know how to choose the best solutions for a particular scenario.
I have often found that after getting some hands-on experience, the best methods of ensuring you study the right concepts for your exam blueprint are to use online instructor-led training videos and high-quality practice questions.
The key, then, is to ensure you select the right courses that cover the syllabus fully and adequately prepare you for the exam experience. If you don’t get this right you could end up wasting a lot of study time, or even worse, end up unprepared for the questions in the exam
In this article, I'd like to offer some recommendations for AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate Training and AWS Solutions Architect Associate Practice Questions that will hopefully ensure that you don’t end up in this position, and instead turn up to your exam with the knowledge and confidence to ace your certification first time.
Exam Overview
Before we get into the course recommendations, I just want to provide an overview of the exam. The following explanation comes from the exam blueprint page on the AWS website:
"The AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate examination is intended for individuals who perform a solutions architect role. This exam validates an examinee's ability to effectively demonstrate knowledge of how to architect and deploy secure and robust applications on AWS technologies."
"It validates an examinee's ability to:
· Define a solution using architectural design principles based on customer requirements.
· Provide implementation guidance based on best practices to the organization throughout the life cycle of the project."
AWS recommend at least one year of hands-on experience and a foundational knowledge of many aspects of the AWS cloud architecture.
The exam is 65 questions in length, and you get 130 minutes. The questions are formatted into one of 2 response types:
· Multiple-choice: Has one correct response and three incorrect responses (distractors)
· Multiple-response: Has two correct responses out of five options
The scope of the exam encompasses the 5 domains listed in the table below:
You need to understand the relative strengths and weaknesses of AWS services in relation to each of these domains. What this means is many questions will have multiple correct answers and you must select the best option when taking into account, resilience, performance, security, cost and operations.
AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate Training Course Recommendations
When studying to re-certify recently, I used multiple training courses on Udemy and Pluralsight. There are many more options in the marketplace that you might also want to consider. I haven’t evaluated these specifically, but you might want to check out the following:
· Linux Academy
· Cloud Academy
I can’t vouch for Cloud Academy, but Linux Academy generally have very good quality content and you can find them both on taheir own website as well as on Udemy.
The following course summaries are from the 3 courses that I took in 2018 when re-certifying for my AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate certification.
A Cloud Guru - AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate 2018
Tumblr media
· Length: 20 hours
· Platform: A Cloud Guru / Udemy
· Instructor: Ryan Kroonenburg, Faye Ellis
· Pros: Good quality videos, clear instruction, knowledgeable instructor, great lab exercises
· Cons: Very light in content and not nearly enough to prepare for the exam, very slide oriented
Summary: This is a long-time bestseller and A Cloud Guru have become very well known in the AWS education industry. The quality is high and there are plenty of good lab exercises to walk you through using AWS services. That being said this course only scratches the surface and should not be used in isolation to prepare for the exam.
DolfinED - AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate [New Exam]
Tumblr media
  · Length: 69 hours
· Platform: Udemy
· Instructor: Eissa A Sherif
· Pros: Good quality videos, clear in-depth instruction, highly experienced instructor, extremely in-depth content
· Cons: Labs could be better as this course is much heavier in theory
Summary: A relative newcomer to the scene, Eissa provides the most in-depth training available for this exam. If you're going to buy one course, this should be it, as it's the only course available that will fully prepare you for the exam. Just be ready for many hours of intense theory as this one dives deep!
Pluralsight - AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate
· Length: 8hrs 21 mins
· Platform: Pluralsight
· Instructor: Elias Khnaser
· Pros: Good mixture of theory and practice labs, well presented
· Cons: Had some content that wasn't in the A Cloud Guru course but still not to the depth required to prepare for the exam
Summary: This was a good course with a good mixture of theory and practical labs. It’s well presented and there was quite a bit I learned on this course that wasn’t covered by A Cloud Guru. That being said A Cloud Guru had more guided labs and neither are in-depth enough to prepare you to pass the exam.
AWS Solutions Architect Associate Practice Questions
Practice questions are an extremely important tool for preparing for the exam experience. Even if you’ve trained and practiced extensively with AWS technology, if you’re not ready for the style and format of the questions in the exam, you may well find yourself struggling.
So where can you find the best practice questions? Well, I'm going to have to admit to a strong bias here :-).  AWS certification exam format
The format for Associate, Professional and Specialty certification exams vary, but each features multiple choice, multiple response and sample direction questions. An AWS professional monitors each timed exam. Associate-level exams last 80 minutes while Professional and Specialty exams last 170 minutes. Exam questions focus on commonly used AWS tools, services and concepts. AWS uses a statistical analysis of an exam to determine the passing score, which varies per test and is subject to change.
After completing the exam, AWS certification results post within 72 hours under the test taker's AWS Certification Account. IT professionals who achieve a passing score receive an e-certificate and access to specific AWS-certified logos and badges for personal and professional use.
