A.P.C. Transmission
Jean Touitou
Phaidon, London 2017, 531 pages, 19,5x25,5cm, 800 illustrations, ISBN 9780714874760
euro 120,00
email if you want to buy : [email protected]
A.P.C. (Atelier de Production et de Création) was created as a reaction to the excesses of the 1980s, and the minimalist designs of founder Jean Touitou now have a cult following. This compelling book, published on the occasion of A.P.C.'s 30th anniversary, carries the same minimal aesthetic - yet it's packed with never-before-seen illustrations and ephemera. Part retrospective of the brand and part personal scrapbook and visual diary, the book includes invitations, postcards, ad campaigns, images of their stores, and collaborations with other designers.
Jean Touitou started his Atelier de Production et de Création in 1987 with a men's collection - launching a women's collection once he realized that women were buying his designs for men. Nearly 30 years later, A.P.C. is still making clean-cut clothes, including Touitou's iconic denim, from the 39 rue Madame studio in Paris - and distributing them in more than 60 stores worldwide.

"I can't do it." "Yes you can." "Okay."
B&Q is a home improvement retailer in the UK like The Home Depot. B&O's tagline, "You can do it," is similar to the line The Home Depot used for many years: "You can do it. We can help." Which, of course, is similar to Bob The Builder's "Can we fix it? Yes we can!"
B&Q’s research revealed that 80% of people want to make changes in their homes, but only 36% feel like they can actually do it.
Thus this campaign telling them they can do it.
This is a company that understands the value of brand assets. You can certainly pick this out in a crowd of ads and mentally connect it to all the others you've seen.
See the whole beautiful campaign here.

From wikipedia: The catchphrase, Howie Cohen told the Los Angeles Times, was inspired when he ate too much of the food at a London commercial shoot because "I am a nice Jewish kid from the Bronx, so I ate everything," and when he told his wife "I can't believe I ate the whole thing", she said, "There's your next Alka-Seltzer commercial."
I am curious how long they had the ad campaign rolling. I imagine it was a recurrent they had to go back to after an ensuing ad slogan failed.
Noted: leave the early 1970s and you leave the word "Freakout" behind.

that article going around abt firefox's new ad program is annoying bc it's phrased as though "mozilla has finally TURNED on its people and is SELLING YOU OUT for cold hard cash!!" when. that's not what's happening. it is specifically being implemented to discourage tracking behavior, and literally all the data they are giving to advertisers is aggregate and anonymized, which is like, the opposite of what that post wants you to worry about, lol

Pay Per Click (PPC) Vs Cost per click (CPC) in Ads
Introduction In digital advertising, two terms frequently come up: Pay Per Click (PPC) and Cost Per Click (CPC). PPC is a popular advertising model where you pay a fee each time your ad is clicked. This method is commonly used across platforms like Google Ads, social media sites, and various third-party websites. On the other hand, CPC is a metric that measures the cost-efficiency of these PPC…

Importance of online advertising for businesses
in today’s digital age, online advertising has become a crucial tool for businesses to reach their target audience effectively. with the majority of consumers spending a significant amount of time online, having a strong online presence is essential for brand visibility and recognition.
online advertising offers businesses the opportunity to precisely target their ads to specific demographics, interests, and behaviors. this targeted approach ensures that marketing efforts are reaching the right people at the right time, increasing the likelihood of conversion and roi.
moreover, online advertising provides a cost-effective solution compared to traditional forms of advertising such as print or tv commercials. businesses can set flexible budgets and monitor real-time results to optimize campaigns for better performance.
by leveraging online advertising strategies, businesses can stay ahead of competitors, increase brand awareness, drive website traffic, generate leads, and ultimately boost sales revenue. embracing digital marketing initiatives is no longer an option but a necessity in today’s competitive business landscape.
Types of online advertising (display ads, search engine marketing, social media ads)
when it comes to online advertising, there are various types that businesses can leverage to reach their target audience. display ads, for instance, are visual advertisements that appear on websites and can be in the form of banners, pop-ups, or videos. they aim to capture the attention of users as they browse online.
search engine marketing involves placing ads on search engine results pages based on specific keywords. this type of advertising is highly targeted as it reaches users who are actively searching for related products or services. social media ads, on the other hand, are displayed within social networking platforms like facebook, instagram, and twitter. these ads can be tailored to specific demographics and interests.
each type of online advertising has its own set of benefits and limitations depending on the business goals and target audience. understanding these differences is essential in choosing the most effective strategy for your digital marketing campaigns.
Tumblr media
Benefits and limitations of each type
when it comes to online advertising, each type offers its own set of benefits and limitations. display ads, for example, are visually appealing and can reach a wide audience across various websites. however, they may be seen as intrusive by some users and can be easily ignored or blocked.
search engine marketing allows businesses to target customers actively searching for specific keywords related to their products or services. this type of advertising typically yields high conversion rates but can be competitive and costly due to bidding on popular keywords.
social media ads offer precise targeting options based on user demographics, interests, and behaviors. they also provide opportunities for engagement with potential customers through likes, comments, and shares. on the downside, social media ads require constant monitoring and optimization to ensure effectiveness.
understanding the benefits and limitations of each type of online advertising is crucial in determining which platforms align best with your business goals and target audience.
Choosing the right platform for your business
when it comes to online advertising, choosing the right platform for your business is crucial. each platform offers unique features and targeting options that can impact the success of your ad campaigns.
consider your target audience and where they spend their time online. if you’re targeting professionals, linkedin ads might be a better fit than instagram ads aimed at younger audiences.
research different platforms to understand their strengths and weaknesses. google ads are great for reaching people actively searching for products or services, while facebook ads excel in targeting based on interests and demographics.
take into account your budget and goals when selecting a platform. some platforms require higher budgets to see results, so make sure you choose one that aligns with your resources.
ultimately, the key is to test different platforms and analyze performance metrics to determine which one drives the best results for your business.
Planning and setting up an online ad campaign
planning and setting up an online ad campaign is a crucial step in reaching your target audience effectively. start by defining your goals and objectives for the campaign – whether it’s brand awareness, lead generation, or driving sales. research your target audience to understand their demographics, interests, and online behavior.
choose the right platform based on where your audience spends their time online – whether it’s google ads for search engine marketing, facebook ads for social media advertising, or display ads on relevant websites. set a budget that aligns with your goals and monitor performance closely to make adjustments as needed.
create compelling ad creatives that grab attention and convey your message clearly. a/b test different variations to optimize performance. consider factors like ad copy, visuals, and calls-to-action.
remember to track key metrics like click-through rates, conversions, and return on investment to measure the success of your campaign. analyze data regularly to identify trends and areas for improvement.
Tips for creating effective ads
crafting ads that capture attention and drive results is key to a successful online advertising campaign. here are some tips to help you create effective ads:
first, know your target audience inside out. understand their needs, preferences, and pain points to tailor your message accordingly.
secondly, focus on creating compelling visuals and concise copy. make sure your ad is visually appealing and conveys the message clearly within seconds.
additionally, utilize strong calls-to-action (ctas) that prompt users to take action immediately. whether it’s “shop now” or “learn more,” ctas can significantly impact click-through rates.
moreover, a/b test different ad elements such as headlines, images, and ctas to identify what resonates best with your audience.
lastly, don’t forget the power of storytelling in ads. engage emotions through stories that connect with your audience on a personal level for better engagement.
Measuring success and adjusting strategies
once your online ad campaign is up and running, it’s crucial to measure its success to see if you’re getting the desired results. this involves tracking key metrics such as click-through rates, conversions, and return on investment. by analyzing these data points, you can determine what’s working well and where adjustments are needed.
if certain ads or platforms are performing below expectations, don’t be afraid to pivot your strategy. perhaps tweaking the messaging or targeting a different audience can make a significant difference in performance. it’s all about being agile and willing to adapt based on real-time feedback.
regularly monitoring your ad campaigns allows you to stay proactive in optimizing their performance. a/b testing different creatives or headlines can help identify what resonates best with your target audience. remember, continuous improvement is key when it comes to online advertising success.
by staying vigilant in measuring results and adjusting strategies accordingly, you’ll be better equipped to maximize the effectiveness of your online advertising efforts. keep experimenting, learning from data insights, and fine-tuning your approach for continued growth and success in the digital landscape!
Common mistakes to avoid in online advertising
navigating the world of online advertising can be a daunting task, especially with common mistakes lurking around every corner. one key error to avoid is neglecting to define clear goals for your campaigns. without a specific objective in mind, it’s challenging to measure success or optimize strategies effectively.
another pitfall is targeting too broad of an audience. casting a wide net may seem like a good idea, but it often leads to wasted resources and low conversion rates. instead, focus on reaching the right people who are more likely to engage with your ads.
additionally, overlooking ad performance data can hinder your campaign’s success. monitoring metrics such as click-through rates and conversion rates is crucial for making informed decisions and adjusting your tactics accordingly.
lastly, failing to test different ad variations can limit your potential reach and impact. a/b testing allows you to refine your messaging and visuals based on what resonates best with your target audience.
Future trends in online advertising
as technology continues to evolve, the future of online advertising is poised for exciting advancements. one emerging trend is the increasing use of artificial intelligence (ai) and machine learning algorithms to optimize ad targeting and personalization. these technologies enable advertisers to deliver more relevant content to their target audience, enhancing engagement and conversion rates.
another trend on the horizon is the rise of voice search and smart speakers, which will impact how ads are delivered to consumers. adapting strategies to accommodate voice-activated searches will be crucial for capturing this growing market segment effectively.
additionally, augmented reality (ar) and virtual reality (vr) are shaping up to revolutionize online advertising by providing immersive experiences for users. brands that leverage ar/vr capabilities in their ads can create memorable interactions with customers, driving brand loyalty and sales.
in conclusion, staying abreast of these future trends in online advertising will be essential for businesses looking to stay competitive in the digital landscape.
Conclusion:
in this ever-evolving digital landscape, online advertising has proven to be a powerful tool for businesses looking to reach their target audience effectively. with various types of online advertising available, from display ads to social media promotions, businesses have the opportunity to showcase their products and services in front of a vast online audience.
by understanding the benefits and limitations of each type of online advertising and choosing the right platform for your business, you can create targeted ad campaigns that drive results. planning, setting up, and optimizing your online ad campaigns are crucial steps in maximizing your return on investment.

A great campaign platform makes it fun to do pool-outs
In the UK and much of the Commonwealth world, Kit Kat's tagline is "Have a break, have a Kit Kat." This simple, focused campaign platform idea must make it fun to do new ads – like this out of home installation.
And it inspired this fun billboard and its digital out of home cousin both of which prove the power of their tagline and color.
The campaign is so clear even people who don't work for the brand or its agencies can make spec ads that look like they belong.
This one with the weird AI copy and visual wasn't spec. It was created by Canadian agency Courage.
