Justice and Security in a World Shattered: Reflections on the Absence of Order
The Sumerian Society: Nanna ‘God of the Moon’, ‘Destroyer’ - Oracle: Andrew Rogers.
“What is the function of justice and security in. your modern world as in the case of the Afghanistan People majority justice and security has been removed by the Taliban and the outside world, you do not represent justice or security a relate to these concepts with clear delusions from your Leaders down” - Nanna ‘God of the Moon’, ‘Destroyer’.
Justice and security are fundamental pillars for the functioning and well-being of any society. They provide a sense of stability, protection, and fairness for its members. In regions like Afghanistan, where the majority of the population has suffered from the removal of justice and security by oppressive groups like the Taliban, the absence of these core elements has had dire consequences.
The function of justice revolves around maintaining order, ensuring equality, and resolving conflicts through a fair and impartial legal system. It guarantees that every individual is treated with dignity and respect, irrespective of their background, social status, or beliefs. A just society upholds the rule of law, where impartial judges and an independent judiciary are responsible for interpreting and enforcing regulations and laws.
In the case of Afghanistan, the Taliban's rule saw a severe erosion of justice. Their harsh interpretation of Islamic law led to numerous human rights abuses and restricted the freedom of individuals, particularly women and marginalized groups. Women's rights were curtailed, access to education was limited, and basic freedoms were denied. This lack of justice left Afghan citizens vulnerable and deprived them of the right to live a dignified and fulfilling life.
On the other hand, security plays a crucial role in maintaining peace, protecting citizens, and preserving the rule of law. It ensures the safety of individuals, their property, and their rights. In a stable and secure society, people can go about their daily lives without the constant fear of violence, conflict, or oppression. Effective security measures are essential for restoring a sense of normalcy and enabling socio-economic development.
Unfortunately, Afghanistan has been marred by persistent insecurity and violence caused by various factions, including the Taliban. The absence of strong security institutions and the prevalence of armed groups have impeded progress and hindered efforts towards peace and stability. Restoring security in such regions is a complex task that requires coordinated efforts from both domestic and international actors.
It is crucial for the international community to support countries like Afghanistan in their pursuit of justice and security. This support can come in the form of humanitarian aid, capacity building for law enforcement and judiciary, diplomatic efforts to promote peace talks, and collaboration with local communities to counter extremism and promote social cohesion.
In conclusion, justice and security are indispensable for a functioning society, ensuring fairness, protection, and peace.

Afghanistan Crisis: Resilience and Global Challenges
Tumblr media
  A Meeting of Global Minds
On the 18th of October 2023, a gathering of Special Representatives and Envoys from nine nations - Canada, the European Union, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Norway, the United Kingdom, and the United States - convened in Rome with a shared mission: to confront the dire humanitarian and economic crisis unfolding in Afghanistan.   A Joint Statement for Afghan Relief In a unified stance, these envoys released a joint statement reflecting their commitment to addressing Afghanistan's pressing humanitarian issues. Their key objectives included: - Ensuring Unhindered Aid Access: The envoys called upon the Taliban to facilitate unimpeded access for all humanitarian aid workers, emphasizing gender equality, to reach vulnerable populations in every corner of the nation. - Sustaining Humanitarian Aid: Acknowledging their respective governments and organizations' contribution of approximately $6.3 billion since August 2021, they underlined the importance of continued robust donor support, even as humanitarian needs outpace available aid. - Supporting Earthquake-Affected Communities: Expressing solidarity with areas devastated by recent earthquakes, they pledged an additional $33 million in aid to support affected communities, with more assistance in the pipeline. - Addressing Macroeconomic Woes: Recognizing that humanitarian aid alone won't resolve Afghanistan's economic woes, they urged expanding support to cover basic needs, women's empowerment, private sector growth, and livelihood generation. Multilateral development banks were called upon to play a significant role in this effort, in addition to the $2.1 billion already allocated by their governments and organizations. - Upholding Human Rights: Expressing grave concern for the human rights situation in Afghanistan, they called upon the Taliban to reverse their restrictive educational policies, affirming education as a human right, and emphasizing equal access to quality education for all.   A Plea for Political Progress In their statement, the envoys voiced disappointment over the lack of serious steps taken by the Taliban to initiate an inclusive political process. They emphasized the necessity of the Afghan people's involvement in crafting a new constitution through a transparent and inclusive national consultative dialogue, seeking guidance from the UN and OIC.   Countering Narcotics and Climate Challenges The envoys welcomed the Taliban's opium cultivation ban and a significant drop in opium production. They called for sustained efforts in this regard and collaboration with UNAMA's Technical Working Group on Counternarcotics. Additionally, they stressed Afghanistan's vulnerability to climate change and the need for sustainable solutions.   Concerns Over Security and Refugee Protection Expressing concerns about ongoing terrorist threats within Afghanistan, the envoys urged the global community, including Afghanistan's neighbors, to uphold their obligations regarding refugee protection and the right to seek asylum. They called for measures to develop a registration system for undocumented Afghans, especially for those at risk of persecution or torture.
United for a Resilient Afghanistan
The envoys emphasized the importance of international unity in addressing Afghanistan's multifaceted challenges, including not normalizing relations with the Taliban. They expressed their appreciation to Italy for hosting this pivotal meeting on Afghanistan and looked forward to further international collaboration.
An Earthquake's Toll on Afghanistan
On June 22, 2022, a devastating 5.9 magnitude earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan, claiming over 1,000 lives and injuring thousands. This catastrophe, the deadliest in decades, further exacerbated Afghanistan's already dire humanitarian crisis.   The Impact of Disaster The earthquake ravaged the provinces of Paktika and Khost, leaving a trail of destruction that included homes, schools, and essential infrastructure. Many were rendered homeless, lacking access to food, clean water, and medical care. Landslides and blocked roads hindered the aid response.
The Humanitarian Response Unveiled
The humanitarian effects were staggering. Over 362,000 people were affected, with more than 60,000 displaced, and over 18,000 homes and 200 schools destroyed or damaged. In response, the Afghan government and the international community launched a major recovery operation.   A Bumpy Road to Recovery Challenges abounded, from financing the recovery amid an economic crisis to addressing insecurity in inaccessible areas. Nevertheless, progress emerged: as of November 2, 2023, over 10,000 homes were rebuilt, and more than 100 schools reopened. International pledges exceeded $110 million.
The 2023 Herat Earthquake
On October 15, 2023, a powerful 5.3 magnitude earthquake rocked the western Herat region of Afghanistan, causing widespread devastation and claiming over 250 lives while injuring thousands more.   Vulnerable Rural Areas Hit Hard The earthquake's epicenter in rural Herat exacerbated the crisis, affecting vulnerable mud-brick homes that were prone to collapse. This disaster compounded Afghanistan's existing humanitarian challenges.
A Swift Humanitarian Response
In the wake of the earthquake, the Afghan government, with international aid agency support, launched a rapid response operation. Relief efforts included medical assistance, food, and shelter, despite daunting logistical and security challenges.   A Long Road to Recovery Despite the resilience of the Afghan people, the path to recovery is steep. The earthquake amplified Afghanistan's humanitarian crisis, and ongoing economic and political challenges remain formidable obstacles. The international community must stand steadfast in providing both immediate relief and long-term development aid.   Sources: THX News & US Department of State. Read the full article

Stories from the Ground: Central Asia
Tumblr media
In a country in Central Asia, Haidi, Burhan, Amin, and Tawfiq* gather around their living room in the apartment they share together. Haidi offers to translate as the men share their stories.
They each have a different experience to share, yet similar themes run through all of their stories. All of these men fled Afghanistan to escape the Taliban. All of them have family they were forced to leave behind that they worry for night and day. All of them are struggling to find work. Their host country is not kind to refugees and they live in constant stress as they try their hardest to get the resources to meet their most basic needs. For a time, they had found work as taxi drivers, ferrying people across the border of Afghanistan and back into their host country but with the Taliban in control of Afghanistan, the border has closed, their work abruptly cut off. Even before the border closure, their work conditions were difficult as the taxis they drove were owned by others. Paying the taxi owners a portion of their income made it nearly impossible to support themselves and send money to their families back in Afghanistan.
Haidi* worked with a parliament member in Afghanistan who sought to gather forces against the Taliban. Once the Taliban regime took over all of Afghanistan, his life was in danger and he was forced to flee the country. It has been two months since he has been able to send money to Afghanistan. All of Haidi’s family is stuck in Afghanistan - his wife, babies (a daughter and a son), mother, father, brothers, and sisters. According to Haidi, the conditions in Afghanistan have become terrible, worse than what is shown on television and he fears for the safety of his family. Right now, there is no avenue for Afghan refugees to apply for visas to leave the country where Haidi is located and many feel that they are without hope, wishes, and a future. Haidi hopes that a United Nations office will open in the city where he is, giving himself and the other Afghan refugees an opportunity to share their stories and receive help. Haidi shared that there are many Afghan refugees who left the country 8 or 10 years ago who are facing the same terrible conditions. The Afghan refugees who have fled the country recently live in the direst conditions.
Haidi told our team, “Day by day the problems become worse. Day by day we are worrying about our families. There is no work here. What should we do? From what work can we get money for eating food? There is no way. For paying the rent? There is no way for us and also you have seen these conditions. They are not for a human. But what should we do? In one room about six, seven people live. Every night we are sleeping in here. And every day we are just thinking...with no work, no money. And also no wishes or hopes and futures.”
Burhan* worked with the agriculture department of the governorate. This put him in grave danger as the Taliban was killing the past regime developers since the agriculture projects were run by the United Nations with American and British workers. Burhan was also a target of the Taliban as he is a member of the Ahmadzai clan, the subtribe of which Ashraf Ghani (the previous Afghan president) is a member of. Since he left, The Taliban have come to his house in Afghanistan looking for him. He sought a visa about five months ago as he saw the condition in Afghanistan worsening and fled the country when the Taliban took over. He only has 80 days left on his visa.
Before fleeing, Amin* faced multiple threats in Afghanistan. As a previous worker for USAID and Save the Children UK, he was a potential target for the Taliban and if caught, could be killed. Amin also has a large family and multiple houses in his care, one for his father and one for his grandfather. Because of his property, the Taliban would come to him daily and try to exhort him for money. Because of these risks, Amin had left where he was living in the eastern part of Afghanistan and moved to the western part, where he worked at a border as a taxi driver. Once the country was taken over by the Taliban, he escaped over the border. The situation changed so quickly that he had no time to apply for a U.S. visa. Amin is separated from his wife, daughter, and two sons as they are still stuck in the western part of Afghanistan.
Tawfiq* was a driver for a construction company that worked on reconstructing roads. Their work was constantly impeded by the Taliban and their lives were at risk as the Taliban had already killed several of their colleagues. Because of this, Tawfiq was forced to flee Afghanistan, leaving behind his family. Tawfiq has two sons and a daughter, and his wife is pregnant with their fourth child. He is consumed with worry about his family as the situation in Afghanistan continues to worsen. He is forced to wait with no work opportunities or prospects, hoping that the situation in Afghanistan will change.
These men are not alone in their situation. Afghans at risk who have been able to escape from Afghanistan and the threats on their lives from the Taliban are faced with these continued challenges- barriers to work, education, and community in the countries they have fled to and the heartbreak of separation from their loved ones who are still in Afghanistan. They carry the pain of feeling that their struggles are unseen and unheard.
Haidi told our team members, “Thank you. We are all thankful for you two, that you are the two...that for the first time have seen us, the first time that our problems are being heard, you are noticing that and you are getting some packages of food for the families and we are so thankful for you.”
These men received food packages from our team members to help them make it through the month. As part of our response to the crises that continue to unfold in Afghanistan, Partners joined a coalition that has been aiding Afghans at risk under the Taliban regime to evacuate the country. To date, over 700 Afghans have been evacuated and over half of those are currently living in safe houses. We are supporting those in safe houses with food and essential supplies. Our latest joyful news was the start of a school for the children living in the safe houses
You can join us in standing in solidarity with Afghans by donating here.

Joe Biden has been in office less than a year and has already made waves among Republicans and Democrats for his failure in Afghanistan. As thousands have struggled to depart Afghanistan, many have referred to as Biden’s choice to withdraw U.S. troops from the country and the Taliban takeover a “failure of foreign policy.”
Critics had been concerned the repercussions from the fallout caused the U.S. to look weak among global powers such as China, Russia and North Korea. Some warned China might use the Taliban takeover to propel certain advantages.
“I expect they’ll make Afghanistan under the Taliban a part of belt and road,” said Ian Bremmer, founder of Eurasia Group. “In part, they’re doing that because it’s a propaganda win after the USA has failed on the ground in Kabul.”
Joe Biden is incapable of serving as Commander in Chief.
The U.S. and the world are less safe because of him.
— GOP (@GOP) August 28, 2021
As thousands of Afghan refugees have been searching for refuge in the U.S., some have questioned how many could be allowed in as another ongoing problem continued regarding the crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border. Biden had pledged in his first 100 days, he would create a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants.
He previously vowed, “on day one, I’m going to send the legislative Immigration Reform Bill to Congress, to provide a road map to citizenship for 11 million undocumented immigrants.”
Nevertheless, Biden just lately instructed migrants to not come following a surge in migrants at the border this year. Reports estimated over 1.3 million migrants have been captured at the border this year.
Thanks @RepBobGood for cosponsoring my articles of impeachment against Joe Biden related to Afghanistan and the border.
It’s time for Congress to hold this administration accountable.
Joe Biden must be impeached. Immediately.
— Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (@RepMTG) August 27, 2021
In leaked audio, Biden’s Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas stated the border crisis was “unstable.” In the meantime, some have been concerned the already open borders, alongside Afghanistan migrants, was turning into a national security crisis.
Monica Crowly, former senior director of Strategic Communications for the National Security Council, stated the Biden administration allowing Afghan migrants might spell trouble.
“The problem now is you’ve got an open southern border where we now have DHS officials saying suspected terrorists are coming across each day,” she said. “Now, you’ve got Afghanistan in the hands of terrorists. The national security implications for this are going to be so horrific and so grave.”
Many GOP lawmakers have demanded Biden’s resignation, with others calling on Congress to impeach him.

Years after Bamiyan Buddhas, Taliban seize power in Afghanistan destroys statue of Hazara leader Abdul Ali Mazari
Tumblr media
Mazari was a champion of Shia, Afghanistan's ethnic Hazara minority, who had been persecuted under the earlier rule of the Sunni Taliban.
Kabul: The Taliban have blown up a statue of a Shia militia leader who fought against them during Afghanistan's civil war in the 1990s, according to photos circulated on social media on Wednesday.
The statue depicts Abdul Ali Mazari, a militia leader killed by the Taliban in 1996, when Islamic militants seized power from rival warlords. Mazari was a champion of Shia, Afghanistan's ethnic Hazara minority, who had been persecuted under the earlier regime of the Sunni Taliban. Read More Click here : Afghanistan
