Side Note: "The Seven Wonders of AlUla" The long drive back to Riyadh on the 24th of December became a window on life’s realities and, to some degree, lessons. One of those is realizing that without the attachment of Christmas eve to said date, it’s just another ordinary day. All it takes is a single deviation like this, subjecting myself into this tour this time of the year, from the routine to clearly see that. I’m convivial nonetheless. The favorite part of the tour though was meeting people from different walks of life. It reinforced the belief that we’re never truly alone. There’s literally always someone around, especially in this kind of trip where every activity in the itinerary is being done as a group. I also couldn't help but appreciate that certain camaraderie that exists among travelers in this, I say, deviation. One that's engaging because interactions are only of pure and innocent motives, if not about making new friends. There's no replication to the kind of vulnerability and openness that emanate from those interactions. I love that because it's liberating and mentally medicinal. Once again, I thank Riyadh Kabayan Tours and the rest of the fun joiners for helping me redefine this kind of experience as one of life’s essential requirements every now and then, as an OFW. And that's how I got the smile in the photo 🙂 Because I understand that there's happiness and power in solitude. Reposted from @arabnews The mother of an Iranian teenager took her own life after security forces allegedly beat her daughter to death, the Metro reported. #SarinaEsmailzadeh, a 16-year-old YouTuber, was killed in a baton attack during a protest in Karaj last month, activists said. Her family searched for her for 10 days before authorities handed over her body, according to the Metro. Esmailzadeh’s YouTube channel includes videos of her without a #hijab, dancing with a man, and discussing women’s rights. While repeatedly attempting to retrieve her body, security forces mocked her mother, telling her that her daughter was immoral and a terrorist. After finally seeing Esmailzadeh’s battered body, her mother went home and hanged herself, local news outlets confirmed.
