afraid of humanity loss
#augustus sinclair#bioshock 2#bioshock#This big daddy is not necessarily delta. Rather the embodiment of sinclair's fears and feelings of guilt.

Having conflicting thoughts and feelings over Bioshock 2. Like I know that’s the point and all with the games having political themes, but still I’m so conflicted over two of my favourite characters in the game.
Like Augustus Sinclair is amazing to me. His design is absolute perfection (he gives dad vibes to me, but maybe that’s just because my mind associates glasses with soft, caring authority figures) he’s a little chubby and his voice is beautiful. But character wise as well. He’s done some horrible shady shit, (and a lot of people initially don’t trust him from what happened with Atlas/Fontaine) yet feels genuine remorse and helps Delta across the course of the game to try and amend that. Only to end up being captured by Sofia and turned into a big daddy himself, who’s only able to speak so Sofia could get bomb codes out of him. Every time I see the part where he asks you to kill him, I can’t help but think: Sofia, you bitch!!! We should’ve gotten an ending where we could’ve saved him. Or like he managed to hide long enough to join them at the end.
And then there’s Sofia herself. I love her design as well, and part of that is because it goes against how I view and interpret characters in general. Sure, she’s got glasses and her design is non threatening, but she isn’t soft at all. She’s quite cold in her demeanour, and as other people have stated a pretty big hypocrite in her goals/views and how she went about trying to achieve them. She’s a challenge and so fun to pick apart and study. I love her because she’s interesting, but I loathe her at the same time for what she did to Augustus.
I need to write a fanfiction where they both survive at the end and have to have some sort of conversation about the shit that happened during the game.

#Bioshock#Bioshock 2#sofia lamb#augustus sinclair#blueberry rambles#I couldn’t find a good screenshot of Sofia to save my life#I guess it could make for very interesting toxic relationship potential#about the whole glasses equalling soft caring parental vibes#it’s why when I redesigned Andre Bourgeois I always give him glasses#not only because I think it makes sense#but because it makes him look softer

fool
Chapter 1 - Augustus Sinclair was a fool
On Ao3.
Summary: Having a heart was a liability, and yet he was following his own into the depth of Persephone.
Augustus Sinclair knew he was a fool. This realisation hit him at the very second when his eyes finally opened about Rapture - the Eden that turned out to be a fancy cage filled with lunatics.
Some would say the realisation took him shamefully long, but truthfully, deep down he felt it, as soon as he stepped out of the bathysphere the first time. But feeling it wasn't enough - with the cigars, the food, and of course the possibilities for big business, to earn a name, all of that blinded him. He let them blind him, after all he was more successful than ever before in his life.
Sinclair was a fool, but honest to God, everybody else was a fool down there. Hell, even Ryan was one; maybe the biggest one out of all. He thought his city could work, even after he started hanging people from lamp-posts, and use their addiction to make them slaves. The big man too used ADAM to control those poor bastards now, just like Fontaine before him.
Sinclair was a fool, yes, not so long ago he was about to give up on ever leaving Rapture. But then, when Tenenbaum came back, when his radio got her signal, a tiny glimpse of hope bloomed with her. His imagination started to zig-zag, telling him a better, more successful future. A future that wasn't filled with seawater and rotting fishes, where he was able to feel the fresh air on his skin again, the warm of the sun, and money in his pocket. Her arrival, meant his escape, but first he had to help the genius doctor out.
"If you want to leave this wretched place, you have to help Herr Delta. He's looking for his Little One, his daughter. Eleanor Lamb."
And like a fool he was, Sinclair said yes, and got introduced to Delta. A Big Daddy who died years ago and came back for his little girl. He watched the Protector rampage through Rapture, fighting for his life, defeating every obstacle that would dare to get between him and his daughter.
Delta was a real jackpot, the best investment in Sinclair's life. He just had to watch the big guy do the hard-work, blindly following the instinct planted inside his brain.
Or, at least that’s what he thought.
"No monster alive turns the other cheek. No monster does that. A thinking man does that."
And Holloway was right.
Sinclair tried to ignore the creeping guilt inside him from the moment he watched Delta freeing the first Little Sister he found.
There were times when he was about to ask Delta how much he remembered, did he know how he ended up as a Protector? Was he aware that he was betrayed by Sinclair?
He was a fool because he thought he will have the chance to ask those questions later. That they can just get Eleanor and leave, not looking back, not dealing with Lamb and her cult. They just had to get to the lifeboat and leave this failed Eden behind.
He was a fool, he knew it, oh how God damn well he knew it. Having a heart was a liability, and yet he was following his own.
The pistol trembled in his hand as his heart was racing inside his chest. He was not a fighter, neither before Rapture, and especially not in this sinking paradise.
Yes, Augustus Sinclair was a fool. He was one of the worst people in the city - maybe he didn't deserve to get out, maybe he should just drown here with his sins, but even after everything, he wasn’t a coward.
Stepping out from the corner he fired the gun. The bulled hit the splicers, her mask fell down as the pain wrecked through her body, her shoulder blossoming in red. She wailed and screamed, only becoming silent when the second bullet put a hole inside her head.
Sinclair felt the adrenalin pumping inside his body, legs, arms, and mind. His thoughts were racing faster and faster as he ran through the corridors.
"Come on, chief. Where could you-" his train of thoughts was cut short as the speakers crackled around the building.
"Attention! August Sinclair has been sighted within the facility! He will attempt to reach Subject Delta."
Sinclair froze mid-step.
"All family duties are hereby suspended until he is found!"
Sofia Lamb's broadcast ended in a static.
"Shit." Fear and relief washed over Sinclair as he sped down in the corridor. The building came alive around him. He heard the rushing footsteps below and above him, even through the walls. Metal clanged on metal, as the steps become quicker and quicker. He could hear Lamb's misshapen family members approaching behind and in front of him.
August Sinclair knew he was a fool, but still hoped that his death at least buys some time to Delta and Eleanor. They didn't deserve to die down here.
He reloaded his gun and he heard a man's shout behind him. "There he is!"
All hell went lose.
