paying for a parking ticket, you kill your car engine, and jump out of your car, booking it into the hospital.
you finally take the time to look down at your phone, scrolling to look for any messages from your boyfriend.
'don't panic'
'I know you'll panic either way, but just don't'
'got transferred to the hospital'
'nasty tackle'
you frown at the messages sent twenty minutes later.
'babyyy'
'answer mee'
'your boyfriend is hurting, and you won't answer?'
you can almost imagine how whiny his tone is, and you don't know if you should laugh or cry..
he didn’t even realize the distress you were experiencing.
with a quick semi-out-of-breath introduction and identification check at the front desk, you're told to go up to room number 1010.
the fact that he'd been assigned a room, instead of him wait in the waiting room had you worried.
without knocking, you open the door to the room, anxiety nearly making you drown in your worries.
though you’re not greeted with a scene of unwellness and tragic sadness.
no, it's of joy and relaxation.
kenan, whom you thought would be in horrible condition, is looking incredibly relaxed while shotting back a handful of pistachios, chuckling at something on the television that's mounted on the wall.
the only indication of injury is a blue brace wrapped around his ankle.
"baby?"
you call out, hands dropping to your side. you step closer, all worry and anxiety leaving your body through sudden prickling tears in your eyes.
"schatz! hey, you never replied to me-"
kenan cuts himself off when you sit on the edge of the hospital bed, head hanging down as you begin to sniffle.
the boy immediately reaches out, cradling the back of your head, moving your body so your cheek is pressed against his chest.
"why the tears, sweet girl?" he coos, voice laced with concern. his other arm wraps around your back, pulling you in closer.
"I was so fucking worried. I thought something horrible had happened- and I didn't think to check what exactly. I just drove without thinking, and now your ankle is wrapped-"
you don't pause to take a breath, explaining without break.
"hey- hey, breathe for me, hm? I'm fine- I'm aware and conscious. see?”
kenan's hand trails up and down your back in a soothing motion, and he moves his head to press a reassuring kiss on your temple. 
"look at me, baby.." he coaxes, pulling back to give you room to look up at him.
your eyes meet, and he gives you one of his beautiful smiles. his face emitting softness and warmth.
"good girl. don't cry.."
the pads of his thumbs swipe away at the tears under your eyes and cheeks, and he presses another kiss on the fallen tears.
you take a deep, shaky breath before opening your mouth to speak.
"what happened to you? a nasty tackle?"
he closes his eyes when nodding, opening them again to make eye contact.
"i got tackled by a defender of our opponent, his foot hit my ankle, and i wasn't able to continue playing. staff brought me to the hospital to be make sure of my condition, and left when the doctor gave them the reassurance I'll be fine.."
you lick your dry lips, voice hoarse from emotion.
"you're fine? just that?"
"minor sprain, wouldn't have been smart to continue playing. waiting for a second opinion from another doctor on call. asked if she could have a look at the mri-scan.."
"why are you in a hospital bed then?"
"it was fine sitting in the waiting room, until i kept getting recognized by fans. you know- i love meeting them, but not when my ankle is hurting, and- sadly, some people can be unpredictable.."
"oh.." you trail off, blinking multiple times.
"you'll be okay?"
he nods, sucking in a breath. eyes gentle as he caresses the soft of your cheek.
"that's right, don't stress your pretty head.."
you cling onto his shirt, pressing your weight against his chest, and laying against his body.
he hums softly, leaning back against the unexpectedly soft hospital pillows, having your body halfway on top of him.
"where are your parents?"
"stuck in traffic, stadium was packed tonight."
"makes sense.."
you make room for a beat of silence, then speak again. 
"were you scared of the mri-machine?"
you knew of his minor claustrophobia, being rolled in a snug machine, which also made loud noises, probably wouldn't be the best thing he'd experienced.
you can feel kenan's chest vibrate as he chuckles deeply, your head titling up to look at him.
"I could manage, though it was difficult without my pretty girl cheering me on.."
you smile at the silly response, rubbing your cheek against his t-shirt.
"good thing I'm here now.."
"I don't think I would've survived this without you.."
"you looked like you were having fun.." you retort, referring to him being all smiles when you walked into the room earlier.
"no, this is very much better." he whispers, patting your back, the touch making you feel drowsy against his chest.
within a few seconds, you're already dreaming of being home with him while he is recovering, smiling in your sleep at the soft and cosy feeling in your chest.
