🌑 CONDOLENCE 🌑
Dr. Vimukta Sharma, 54, was the principal of BM College of Pharmacy located in the Simrol area in Indore was battling for her life at a hospital nearby after a former student of the institute set her ablaze on February 20.
The accused, Ashutosh Shrivastava, 24 allegedly poured petrol and set the principal on fire over a delay in receiving his B.Pharma marksheet. Vimukta Sharma reportedly suffered over 80% burn injuries.
The management of the institute said Shrivastava had “criminal tendencies". Shrivastava had allegedly stabbed an assistant professor at the college, Dr Vijay Patel, in October last year over a similar dispute with regards to his marksheet, according to police.
Shrivastava was arrested in that case back then, but was later released on bail, the police officer added.
The college management said that the accused was putting undue pressure on the principal to withdraw the four-month-old case against him.
Dr. Vimukta sharma, principal expired on Feb 25 early in the morning.
We team members mourn and pay respectful homage to the deceased.
➖➖➖➖➖➖➖
➖Azeez: In addition to actions, measures should be taken to address any underlying issues that may have contributed to such violence, such as improving access to education and mental health resources.
My thoughts go out to the family, friends, and colleagues of Dr. Vimukta Sharma during this difficult time.
➖Dr Sekar Srinivasan: Such action by any student should be dealt with capital punishment immediately without much probe. That will be a lesson.
➖Ishrath: Student must also be set on fire
➖Vincent Paul Moses: Yes. Most of the students are becoming like this almost everywhere these days.
There's no job security for any of the employees especially in the teaching field.
The present youth give no respect to elders. Some foolish parents relish in what their children do even when their actions are wicked.
Some arrogant parents fight against anyone on behalf of their children even without knowing the truth.
Some wicked parents train their children to be alike.
Overall education system has become a nightmare especially for teachers or lecturers in schools and colleges.
This incident can adversely affect the career of the faculty.
Such students should be severely punished by the Government of India.
Such students deserve the death penalty for India has the history of respecting teachers.
He who did this need not realise the value of education or teacher or head of the institution but should be treated as an outlaw and a terrorist.
Political influence should not be found in support of such fellows. There should not be any sympathy shown for him.
➖Dr. BALA SUBRAMANIAN: Very sad, need some protocol methods, very sad, very bad culture of students, now they don't have patience.
Even patients fight with doctors,
Some two wheeler drives and when police interrogate setting fire for his own vehicles........
Need strict discipline at home, mainly parents, mainly mother should give valuable time and guide them. May her soul rest in peace
➖Sonal Kathuria: I agree.... Moral values, value education life skills they just don't exist anymore... I'm really heartbroken to read all this early in the morning.
➖Johnson: RIP Dr. Vimukhta Sharma.
What crime have you done to the student community as a mother and a teacher?
It is today you and tomorrow any one among us!
Today it is setting a helpless guru ablaze! Tomorrow lets wait for being stabbed or shot!
Who is to be blamed for the blind imitation of west that of their leaving the riddle of control over discipling of children? "Spare the road, spoil the child" came from "The Book of Proverbs" from ancient scriptures.
What was Dr. Vimukta Sharma's fault if a university does not have an academic calendar?
If exams wont happen at a specific time and results wont be declared timely and error free by a university?
Whose mistake is this if children have to wait years for completion of a course?
If parents and students and society are moving away from our time old virtues practiced in society who can be blamed?
Our social fabric is torn. Lets wait to witness a total destruction and a reconstruction.
But I feel extremely sad by reading this news.

All about IPMAT and online coaching institutes
Management is a very diverse field, which comprises many options for which field you want to enter, either in HR, operations, or Finance. Management develops a lot of skills in a person, such as soft skills and hard skills. Hard skills comprise different streams that a student can choose from, such as marketing, HR, Finance, and operations. Soft skills comprise leadership skills, time management skills, teamwork skills, and effective communication). The undergraduate degree must be completed before applying for management studies in the MBA. If the mindset of the person is clear that he or she wants to pursue a career in management, the person can go into the field through IPMAT. This is the alternative solution to the MBA. This is one of the competitive exams. For systematic knowledge, a person can go to top IPMAT coaching Allahabad so that they can clear the exams with flying colors.
Traditionally, students must complete their undergraduate degree and then pursue an MBA. There are students who went for an MBA after completing their engineering degree. There are also various UG courses that provide knowledge of management, such as BBA, BMS, etc. These courses enable students to begin managing their education at the undergraduate level. Previously, if a student wanted to pursue an MBA, they had to first obtain a UG degree and then an MBA degree. They must apply for admission to the colleges twice. There is a certain requirement that students must fulfill, such as clearing the entrance exams, GD, or personal interviews.
The Integrated Program in Management is a five-year course that is conducted by many IIM schools. Students must maintain an overall CGPA of 5 in their third year to be eligible in their fourth and fifth years. The main motive of IPM is to convert managers into leaders. If the student score less than a CGPA of 5, he or she is not entitled to move further and must exit the programme by taking a UG degree. If a student wishes to leave the programme voluntarily, they may do so at any time.
There are many students who are not able to go to coaching institutes because, at the same time, they are managing a lot of stuff. Such students can go for online IPMat coaching allahabad . Online coaching also provides mock tests, which is profitable for students.
Institutes offering IPMAT
• IIM Indore
• IIM Rohtak
• Nirma University
• Jindal Global Business School
Why was IPM created, and how do coaching institutes assist students in passing the IPM exam?
Through the IPM, the student can go to a reputed institute after the 12th. Because of the length of time, a person can gain a thorough understanding of management principles. Institutes like IIM Indore provide knowledge in many other subjects, such as mathematics, statistics, history, and the natural sciences. The student applies for the IPMAT during the 12th grade, which they must take after finishing the 12th grade. Students are not able to manage the 12th grade and the paper of the IPMAT examinations. For systematic study, they can go to coaching institutes, which plan their studies and provide study material.
Coaching institutes are the ones who provide mentors to their students as well. Mentors assist students in carrying out their assistance and in reducing stress. Coaching institutes offer mock tests so that student can manage their time and identity and their strengths and weaknesses. Students can learn how to react in a real-life situation and what questions they must answer in a set amount of time by taking a mock test.
IPMAT institutes also offer them corporate internships and various types of social internships to apply their theoretical knowledge in a practical environment. When the student is clear on what they want to do in the future, they can go for IPMAT through a coaching institute. Students can prepare for the examination on their own or they can apply to a coaching institute such as TCM Education. If the person goes for themselves, they face a lot of problems as they are not able to understand where they must start and where they must finish.

Everything one should know before pursuing BBA
BBA stands for Business and Business Administration. In India, a BBA is a graduate degree offered by best BBA colleges in Pune, or elsewhere that prepares students for careers in business leadership by providing them with professional management qualifications. BBA education is rising in tandem with the Indian economy and business.
BBA or comparable programmes are offered by more than 500 universities and colleges in India. Undergraduate management programmes go by a lot of different names, so don't get them mixed up. BBA, BMS, for example. Bachelors of Business Administration (BBA), Bachelors of Management Studies (BMS), Integrated Program in Management (IPM) at IIM Indore, BA (H) BE (BA (Hon) in Business Economics), and a few other designations are used. They have similar programmes and several specialities, such as finance, international business, and economics, to name a few. In Pune, there are also a number of well-known BBA institutes.
Scope of BBA
With the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) programme, the saying goes, "Catch the opportunity when it strikes first." BBA in India has a broader scope than any other bachelor's degree programme because there are no restrictions. There is no other undergraduate management or degree programme that prepares young people who have completed or are about to pass their class 12 exam for leadership managing responsibilities better than the BBA.
Choosing a BBA as a career path is a wise decision
BBA has become a popular career path in India. In comparison to a decade ago, BBA has seen a high placement trend in India in recent years. As a result, after completing your Class 12, a three-year full-time BBA in India or a five-year integrated BBA+MBA from one of the leading colleges is an excellent career decision. Indeed, students and parents alike are concerned about picking the correct graduation subject after class 12 in order to have a bright future. It's a major decision, and your choice today could change your life. BBA has become a popular choice among students in recent years because it has a clear goal and can lead to lucrative management positions with great career growth potential. While thousands of students work hard to gain admission to prestigious 4-year engineering and medical programmes, a career path with a 3-year BBA gives both options: acquire a decent job and join a company, or go for an MBA and get a larger placement package and a higher leadership post.
Courses in Business Administration and the Admissions Process
Different types of BBA courses are included in the list of BBA courses. BBA degrees provided by Delhi University institutes, for example, include three-year BBA, BMS, and BBA-FIA programmes. The National Testing Agency is now conducting the DU JAT 2021 for DU BBA admissions in 2021.Three years are for graduate degrees and two years are for MBA degrees in this five-year integrated programme. Admission is granted based on the results of the relevant BBA entrance test, such as NPAT or IPM AT. Symbiosis Institute of Computer Studies and Research is one of the best bba colleges in India if you're planning to take admission in this course.

When it comes to choosing a career, everybody is overwhelmed by the plethora of options available. What should we study further? Which is the popular course? All these questions pile up in your head within no time. But there are several courses which can make things easy for you. Have you ever heard about integrated MBA? It is a five-year management course aiming to prepare the candidates for the managerial future job roles.
There are many such colleges in India. There are integrated MBA colleges in Ahmedabad, Ranchi, Indore, Mumbai, etc. The name integrated MBA program can be a bit intimidating when you hear it for the first time, but in reality, it is just a simple management combined course.
If you are sure about your future program and have decided on the managerial roles, an integrated MBA is an excellent option.
Benefits of the five-year MBA program
There are certain benefits when you apply for the integrated program. The first and most important benefit of the five-year integrated program is that there is no repetition of courses or subjects. But, if you apply to MBA after BBA, then you will have to repeat the main subjects.
Also, the integrated program saves the time of the students from preparing for the entrance exam and selection process twice. The program helps you to save a year from being wasted for the preparation of the entrance exams like CAT, CMAT, MAT, etc.
There are colleges in India providing such courses for students who wish to build a career in the management field.
The infrastructure of your future!
There are many colleges in India where there are integrated MBA programs. Different institutes have different criteria for the selection process. Some of the institutes have their entrance exam, while some provide seats based on merits only.
Let us see some of the institutes along with their eligibility criteria one by one.
Xavier University, Bhubaneswar - The college offers the program of integrated MBA in sustainability Management, and the eligibility for this course is basic. The student applying for the course must pass the 12th standard.
Jindal Global Business School, Haryana - The college offers the integrated BBA (Hons) + MBA (five years) program with the eligibility criteria to pass 12th standard with a minimum of 60% marks, and pass the entrance exam SAT/JSAT/UGAT.
Mumbai University - The college offers the BMS+MBA program with basic eligibility to pass the 12th standard and the entrance exam MUCMET.
Nirma University, Ahmedabad - The college offers BBA+MBA (five-year) integrated program with the primary eligibility criteria to pass the 12th standard and entrance exam UGAT. Nirma University is also one of the top BBA colleges in Ahmedabad.
There are many colleges to choose from, but the above are the best among the rest. Choose your career wisely and let your future shine brightly!

The Ultimate Guide To Higher Studies For Mariners – Part 3
Part III: From High seas to inquisitive classrooms: India calling
The inception
India has its fair share of renowned MBA institutions. Alumni belonging to these esteemed centers have left their mark in the world, with regards to business and economy. Thus, getting an offer to study at one of these institutions would be nothing short of an honor.
Looking further into Indian B-schools we are bound to come across PGDM vs MBA point. According to the Indian governing council for technical education, i.e AITCE, only a deemed university can accord a Masters’s degree – MBA in this case.
As a lot of these B-schools are standalone institutions, neither affiliated to any university nor are a deemed university, they cannot grant degrees. So, they grant diplomas – Post-Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM).
Unlike the huge difference between diplomas in Engg and BTech/B.E. in Engg, PGDMs and MBAs are considered at par. Thus, to clarify both PGDM and MBA are the same.
Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted by IIMs and Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) conducted by XLRI are the two most common entrance examinations to apply for MBA/PGDM in India.
Other institutes may accept either of these two scores or conduct their own exams. For example, the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) conducts its own exam for MBA(International Business), and the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) has NMAT (NMIMS Management Aptitude Test). Just getting a good percentile is not enough.
The admission process includes – Written Ability Test (WAT), Group discussion (GD), and Personal Interview (PI). Every institute has its own process. Generally, IIMs and XLRI shortlist via their CAT/XAT score and invite candidates for further rounds.
The final selection criteria are also varied among institutions – profile marking, work exp weightage, GD/PI performance, test score. For other institutions we need to apply beforehand, giving our CAT/XAT/ other test registration numbers in the application.
Needless to say, when the test results are announced, these institutions verify our score and evaluating it with their own minimum criteria. After this only, do we get an invitation email for further rounds?
When we talk about MBA in India IIMs and XLRI come first. Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) is the premier institution set up by the Govt of India long back. Among B-school aspirants, IIMs are divided into older IIMs and newer IIMs.
The older IIMs, in lieu of being established way back, have excellent faculties, famous alumni, competitive cohort, amazing placements – thus are the dream school.
The older IIMs are referred to as BLACKI (IIM Bangalore, IIM Lucknow, IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Calcutta, IIM Kozhikode, and IIM Indore). Within BLACKI – ABC are the bluest of the blue.
The only other institutes that match the aura of ABC are XLRI Jamshedpur and ISB Hyderabad. But ISB Hyd requires certain work experience to apply. Something that other B-schools do not have. XLRI runs two flagship programs – PGP BM and PGP HR, where BM stands for Business Management and HR for Human Resources. Its HR program is considered one of the finest in Asia.
Faculty of Management Studies (FMS) is a constituent college of Delhi University. It ranks among the top ten and is one of the most competitive colleges to get an admit – lesser seats/more applications being one of the reasons. Sharing a similar predicament to FMS is Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (JBIMS) – Dept of Management, University of Mumbai.
Management Development Institute (MDI) Gurgaon established by the Industrial Finance Corporation of India is another premier institution offering business studies. Located near the commercial hub of Delhi, it too has quality students, eminent faculties, and renowned alumni.
For addressing the conundrum of foreign trade, the Ministry of Commerce, Govt of India had constructed the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) in the 1960s. Initially, set up to train civil servants of the Indian Trade Service (ITS) cadre, it has morphed into one of the finest B-schools in India.
Its flagship program MBA (International Business) concentrates on commerce, foreign trade, etc. Quite a number of senior executives at commodity trading and chartering firms such as Cargill, Olam, Kewalram Chanrai, etc have graduated from here.
IMT Ghaziabad, SP Jain Mumbai, NMIMS Mumbai, Great Lakes Chennai also count among the premier business learning centers of India. Few IITs and some NITs also offer MBA. Vinod Gupta School of Management (VGSOM) IIT Kgp, Shailesh J Mehta School of Management (SJMSOM) IIT Bombay, Dept. of Management Studies (DOMS) IIT Madras to name a few are considered amongst the top tier. With regards to NITs Dept. of Management Studies NIT Trichy, School of Management NIT Rourkela are well known.
Executive MBA/ EPGP/ PGPx
The setting up of ISB Hyderabad boosted the executive education scenario in India. One should note that there is a very different point of view with regards to executive education between Indian institutes and foreign universities.
Reputed business schools abroad accept candidates usually with 4-6 years of work experience for their general MBA program. For their executive MBA (EMBA), candidates need to have at least 10 years of managerial experience, either at mid-senior or senior level, to become eligible for applying.
In vast contrast to this, well-respected Indian institutions need a 5-year work experience, sans level, for candidates to apply. The reason for the disparity is the fact that fresh graduates without any work experience are eligible to apply for MBA programs in India which is not the case abroad.
The Post Graduate Program in Management (PGPM) is the flagship program offered by ISB Hyd. When it was launched around 20 years back, it kind of became a cult. During that time the other top institutions – namely BLACKI, XLRI, and FMS – did not have any minimum work experience criteria in their eligibility column (ISB had a minimum of 2 years of work experience).
Over the years they have added various programs to suit the different work experiences of candidates. PGP-MAX for senior executives with 10 years of work experience and PGP-Pro for working professionals with 5 years of work experience. ISB accepts GRE/GMAT scores for its programs.
Thus to this date, it continues to be the flagbearer for executive education in India. Since ISB Hyd has quite a lot of alumni belonging to the maritime industry, it is a hot favorite among seafarers. It should be remembered that ISB positions its One year MBA as the general MBA and its PGP-MAX as executive MBA.
Xavier Labour Research Institute (XLRI) Jamshedpur is the oldest business school in India. It offers a 15-month full-time residential program called EPGDM for candidates with a minimum of 5 years of work experience.
This program helps candidates to grapple with cutting-edge business notions, develop their management perspectives, and nurture them to think beyond the obvious.
The eligibility test is either XAT or GMAT/GRE. Similar to ISB, XLRI too has a lot of marine engineers as alumni to boast. On a personal front, I was taught by a retired extra-First class Chief Engineer and XLRI alumnus during MEO preparatory classes.
BLACKI too offers executive MBA programs for experienced professionals. Some offer Post Graduate Program either via a two-year path or via a one-year duration. The two-year path is meant for working professionals who wish to study as well as continue working.
The course is generally structured through interactive learning as it is a non-residential program. The one-year duration program is the flagship program with respect to executive education. It is a comprehensive full-time residential program. A valid GMAT/GRE score and a reasonable work experience of at least 5 years (some have a minimum requirement of 4 years) are the eligibility criteria. If one browses through their class profile, one can generally find quite a few sailors in the ranks.
Apart from these, MDI Gurgaon, SP Jain Mumbai, FMS Delhi, Great Lakes Chennai, IIFT Delhi, IMT Ghaziabad, NMIMS Mumbai, etc along with a few of the newer IIMs and some of the IITs (Kgp, Bombay, Madras, etc) offer this.
There is always confusion between one-year MBAs offered in India and executive MBAs abroad (apart from the duration of work experience).
The thing is AICTE classifies one-year MBAs offered in India as full-time residential programs and denotes them as ‘Executive PGDM’ of Executive MBA’. While abroad, Executive MBA is usually a two-year non-residential module-based program.
Specialized Masters
This trend is slowly catching up in India. Some institutions have introduced programs not so long ago, while some institutions are attracting renewed interest to theirs. Take for example the multi-disciplinary MBA in Business Analytics offered by IIM Bangalore.
This newly launched 24 months, immersive program develops students to integrate sound management principles and deep analytics to approach a viable solution.
In this digital era, data is the bloodline of the economy. Through data mining and analyzing, one can gather past information, diagnose, and predict the future swing. In short – Analytics Value Escalator – comprising descriptive analytics, diagnostic analytics, predictive analytics, and prescriptive analytics.
The Planned Maintenance System (PMS) used onboard, calculating Main Engine performance to predict hull fouling, even our bunker stemming plan are examples of data analytics only – though at a rudimentary level.
The Post Graduate Program for Executives in Visionary Leadership in Manufacturing (PGPEX-VLM) offered by IIM Calcutta in collaboration with IIT Kanpur and IIT Madras was started in 2006-07.
This one-year specialty program developed under Indo-Japan Joint Cooperation Agreement nurtures leaders to become pioneers in the manufacturing sector having a strong impetus for new-age technology.
ISB Hyderabad’s Advanced Management Program in Business Analytics (AMP-BA), IIM Kozhikode’s PGP in Liberal Studies and Management, etc. are few examples of specialized masters being offered in India.
Master in Tech
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is the basic qualifying exam for pursuing higher studies in the core technical fields in IITs, NITs, CFTIs, etc. With respect to maritime, 2 years full-time M.Tech is offered in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, Dredging and Harbour Engineering, and Marine Engineering and Management by IMU.
IIT Kharagpur also offers Post Graduate Program in Maritime Operations and Management (PGPMOM). The criteria for selection being MEO Class I COC followed by an interview. The commencement of this program is under the sole discretion of IIT Kgp following the sufficient availability of suitable candidates.
Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), a state government-owned university, and AMET, a deemed to be a self-funded university, also offer M.Tech in Marine Engineering. The admission process to these two is via a rank list, where work experience and MEO COCs carry heavy weightage.
The higher the COC more the weightage. Another self-funded college, Tolani Maritime Institute offers one-year post-graduate programs in M.Sc Marine Engineering and in M.Sc Technical Ship Management. These programs are offered by Glasgow-based University of Strathclyde. Candidates study for 16 weeks at the Tolani campus and then seek to admit into the second semester at Glasgow.
Work Integrated Learning Program (WILP) is offered by BITS Pilani. This UGC-approved (received approval in late 2020) program focuses on strengthening one’s technical acumen, upgrading skills, and earning a BITS branded M.Tech degree while not interrupting one’s career.

What is the Difference Between B.E. and B.Tech?
B.Tech course is somewhat more practically intensive than the BE course which is more theoretical. The difference (which is quite minor) between the two degrees can be understood from their names itself, Engineering Vs. Technology. B.E stands for Bachelor of Engineering while B.Tech stands for Bachelor of Technology. These degrees are typically awarded to the students of engineering upon completion of course. It would be important to notice that the engineering course differs in different states all over India and all the leading independent Universities in India have their own courses. So there's no 'real' difference between these two degrees. There are several colleges that offer B.E, which is more common among these two degrees while the IITs and other leading institutes offer B.Tech. Chemical engineers typically get the B.Tech degree while most other engineering disciplines are awarded the B.E degree. BE or B.Tech and ME or M.Tech is superior other others in terms of theory or experiment. BE and B.Tech or ME and M.Tech are same. Both of them are same and have similar scope and future. If there is some notification for BE, B.Tech’s are also eligible to apply and vise versa.
What is the Difference between Deemed, Autonomous & Private Institutes?
Deemed to be Universities “Deemed” is a status of autonomy granted to a university by DHE under MHRD, on the advice of UGC. Deemed to be Universities enjoy full autonomy or independence in deciding courses, syllabus, admissions and fees. Some Deemed to be Universities can also grant degrees on their own. Deemed-to-be Universities, which continue to perform well, can get the status of a full-fledged University. According to a UGC consolidated list, there are 123 deemed-to-be universities in the country.   Salient features: Conducts their own admission procedure Can decide their own syllabus Conducts their own exams May or may not grant degrees to the students   Private Universities Private universities are also UGC approved institutes. However, such universities do not run on central or state funds. They can grant degrees but cannot have off-campus colleges or affiliate an institution/college. “They can establish off-campus centre(s) within the concerned State after their existence of five years and with the prior approval of the University Grants Commission,” states the UGC website. Unlike state and central universities which have a ‘Chancellor’ as the head, a private university is always headed by ‘President’ or ‘Chairperson’. According to a ruling by the Supreme Court of India, private universities need to adhere to UGC rules and regulations for operations. The UGC regularly sends committees to inspect private universities. According to a UGC consolidated list, there 260 are private universities in the country.   Salient features: Conducts their own admission procedure Can decide their own syllabus Conducts their own exams Can grant degrees to the students   Autonomous Institutes & Colleges Autonomous institutes and colleges exercise independent control over their daily operations, syllabus, courses offered and admission procedure. They fall under the administrative control of Department of Higher Education (DHE), MHRD. However, there’s a thin line of difference between Autonomous Institutes and Autonomous Colleges. Autonomous Colleges need to be affiliated to a certain university. These colleges can conduct their own admission procedure and exams. However, at the end of course completion, they cannot issue their own degree or diploma. The final degree or diploma is issued by the affiliated university. Autonomous Institutes, like deemed-to-be universities, enjoy full autonomy or independence in deciding courses, syllabus, admissions and fees. However, they can grant diplomas like in the case of Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs). It may be noted that IIMs will also be able to grant degrees soon as the Union Cabinet has recently approved the IIM Bill 2017. However, some autonomous institutes are permitted to award degrees, though they are not referred to as Universities. These institutes include Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), etc.   Salient features: Conducts their own admission procedure Can decide their own syllabus Conducts their own exams May or may not grant diploma or degree to students
Which Degree is Better or which should I opt: BTech or MCA?
B tech is 4 year Bachelor degree which is done after 12th grade whereas MCA is 3 year masters degree for peoples from ARts and Science background. Opt for MCA only if - You want to give more preference to become Lecturer rather than Industry. You are ready give 2 years Extra than B.tech You can`t get reputed college for B.Tech. You are Science Graduate so that You can try for NIMCET, JNU, BHUand other top college for MCA. You are graduate. You want to Add Master at your resume. Want eligibility for UGC- NET. Want to work for PGT(Computer Science). otherwise wisely choose B.Tech, litter bitter but true.   To Summarize BCA from local college = Btech from local college BCA from a reputed college >> B.Tech from a local college B.tech = 4 years, MCA = 3(graduation) + 3 = 6 years therefore, btech from local college > mca from local college and mca from reputed college >> btech from local college
What is the Difference Between a Degree and a Diploma?
To understand the difference between a degree and a diploma, we first need to know what a university is, what AICTE is, and the role of the University Grants Commission (UGC) in India.   UGC UGC stands for the University Grants Commission. The UGC was established in November 1956 as a statutory body of the Government of India for the coordination, determination, and maintenance of standards of university education in India. All cases pertaining to the allocation of grants-in-aid from public funds to the Central Universities and other Universities and Institutions of higher learning might be referred to the University Grants Commission.   AICTE What UGC is to universities, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is to private institutes that impart technical education. The body works towards qualitative improvement of technical education, and towards implementation and proper maintenance of norms and standards in a technical education system.   What is a Degree? Degree on the other hand, is a long term course which varies between 3–4 years for bachelor’s, 2 years beyond bachelor for master degree, depending on the course.Degree provide more in depth knowledge about a particular course then diploma. Earning a degree opens more doors for opportunities as compared to diploma. In fact, various career options require at least bachelor degree. Who Confers the Degree Only a university can confer a degree. To pursue higher education, only a degree from a UGC-approved university is accepted. AICTE-approved private institutes are affiliated to UGC-approved universities. In case a person graduates from an AICTE approved private institute affiliated to a UGC approved university, he still gets the degree of the university.
What is a Diploma? Diploma in a layman language is a short term course generally up to 2 yrs which mainly focus on training a person in a particular field. They are one of the quick and best way to get a job as their course is more practical oriented. The importance of diploma as compared to degree is relatively less. Who Confers a Diploma? An institute, a polytechnic, or even a university can offer a diploma course. There is no need for the institute or the university to be UGC or AICTE approved.   NOTE: Degree is a Course of 3/4/5 years duration after intermediate/ senior secondary / 10+2. Degree is of graduate level. For example - BA ,B COM, B Sc, B Tech, MBBS After graduate degree one is eligible for Post Graduate Degree. Diploma is awarded for a short duration of 1/2 or max 3 years. Diploma is awarded after matric / secondary exam. Interview series - What after B.arch?
Interviewee: Ar. Maithily Velangi Post-graduation: Master of Landscape Architecture | SPA Delhi, India
Hello, Maithily! Please tell us about your university and program. How did you hear about it? Why did you decide to take it up? Well, School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi doesn’t need any introduction. Right from when you enter Architecture field, every student knows of SPA!! I was looking particularly for the course in Landscape and in India. Having had worked in Landscape offices for approx. 4.5 years out of 6 years of working (before taking up Master’s), I was very sure of what I was looking for from the course. So given the colleges that offered this course here, this was one of the best, according to the reviews that I got from many professionals who I approached for advice.
Alright…Could you tell us more about it- What exactly about the university or program appealed to you? One was the location itself. Delhi had much to offer, in terms of exposure with practising professionals and interdisciplinary events that happen in Delhi (Architecture-based). Secondly, SPA as a brand itself carried more weight. Third, but most important to me was, it was out of my comfort zone. Ahmedabad (CEPT) or Pune (BNCA), which were my other two options, would have put me back to comfortable areas and being there, I couldn’t have judged my capacities to the fullest.
That’s an interesting way of looking at things! How was your experience at SPA? The overall experience was quite informative and it put forth various aspects in landscape discipline can intervene. The program was definitely intensive, I don’t remember getting even one weekend for myself! We were taught by many practising landscape architects, geologists, ecologists from DU, botanists from JNU and professionals from Government bodies like DDA, DUAC, etc. and they had a lot to offer from their experience and their own background of work. Hence, the teaching-learning process became interdisciplinary, which is a must when it comes to working in Design field.
That sounds fascinating! What lessons did you take from the experience? Never doubt yourself! When I planned my masters, I knew I was already a bit late and I would have to compete with fresh young minds knowing all the latest software and that I would lag behind. But no! I had a wrong interpretation of Master’s all together. It doesn’t push anyone back, with whatever knowledge you go, it will only push you ahead, make you more capable than you were!
OK… Note to self: Never doubt yourself! How was your program/university different from the others? I think this course at SPA particularly prepares outgoing students to solve design problems rather than being theoretically-oriented. The research part is kept minimal during the academic study. Students are required to address design issues and bring out tangible design solutions which are the need of the hour. To be frank, this can be either advantage or disadvantage depending upon where the graduated student works post-masters. But as I understand from various interactions, the program gives a higher edge up for the outgoing students.

Interesting… Which semester did you attend? How did you plan the entrance exams? I did give GATE to get a scholarship, but unfortunately, I didn’t get the required score to get the scholarship. But it surely helps financially. Every college has its schedule of application, interviews, etc. It usually happens around May-June every year. We need to visit the college websites and keep updated for dates.
Yes, of course! How did you manage the finances? Did you acquire a scholarship/fee waiver? I had to go for a student loan, given I had no financial support. Also, when I was supposed to be earning and sharing the household expenses with my husband - Rahul, I couldn’t possibly just take a break and go attending classes, leaving everything on him to pay! Yes! I was married when I did my master’s! Hence, I had to be on my own while he would be on his own here in Bangalore. The Canara Bank, Tilakwadi -Belgaum branch manager then (in 2013) went out of his way to help me out with the student loan, considering my accommodation and daily travel expenses as well apart from tuition fees and stationery. I am right now repaying my loan.
Oh! That’s quite a gritty story! Also, kudos to everyone who supported you on your master’s journey. Did your program have any research opportunities? I believe that every topic we study under any course we do needs research and homework. So it is up to us to choose whether to do it or not. As a part of the curriculum, we did have certain subjects which were research-oriented but as a separate research wing which would hire research assistants etc., we didn’t get that opportunity. Also, being a proactive person as I am, I always kept myself busy with student competitions, participated in workshops, seminars and was involved with every bit that came my way apart from being only into academics. This gave me good exposure, interaction opportunities and built up my professional and personal networking.

Okay… Most post-grad students work a part-time job while studying. Did you obtain any such opportunity? No, as I had mentioned earlier, the course was quite intensive and there was hardly any time to take up part-time job.
Do you suggest working for a while before post-graduation? Yes! I highly recommend work experience of at least 2 years before taking up post-graduation. Firstly, it allows you to find your field of interest and choose the right course that may suit you. There are many allied fields in Architecture, right from pure architecture, landscape, urban design, planning to product design, photography, Architectural journalism etc. Hence while you are working, you get some time to pause and think about other fields. Secondly, when you go for Masters with some experience, it will help you relate to the subjects that you are studying in a holistic way. You get an in-depth understanding which may remain superficial otherwise.
Right! Did you have any post-masters plans in mind when you went to do masters? Or did you ‘go with the flow’? Since I was already into landscape field before I took up masters, I knew I had to be back and into office again. I also had in mind that I wanted to get linked to academics. However, I would have liked to stay back in Delhi or go to any other city to see how work happens there and gain experience , but I didn’t allow myself that freedom and headed straight back to Bangalore – though Rahul had suggested me to work anywhere I liked for another two years and then get back!
Oh! And did you do a lot of travelling while studying? If yes, where? During our course of two years, we had to deal with various projects located at different locations within Delhi and even in other cities. For this reason, we got an opportunity to travel to various places like Udaipur, Mandu, Indore, Bhopal etc. Apart from this, other travels were more of personal trips, whenever a chance came by.

Wow! That’s certainly a lot of places explored! Could you tell us about how your master’s degree is helping you in what you are doing right now? It has opened up various windows in mind through which I can explore my field of work. It has helped me shape my vision and understand the extent up to which we, as designers can make a change to the society. It has helped me address a design problem or issues at different scales and at various levels. Above all, it has built up my confidence.
Tell us more about your current work and future plans. Currently, I am working as Assistant Professor at BMS college of Architecture, Bangalore. Apart from this, I do take up Landscape design consultancy. I also keep myself involved in paper writing and any research opportunities that come my way. I do have a few plans to explore practice and research, hoping that it will take shape soon.
Finally, what message would you like to give to future students of Post-graduate studies/ B.arch students? Under Graduation is mandatory, whichever field you choose. Many may opt to continue working post-UG and yes, there is no dearth of jobs in our field! But Post-graduation is something one does out of choice. It is one’s own decision to not to work for 1 or 2 years and undertake Masters Course. Hence, my message to all is to choose the right course, take it up seriously and not look at it as just another degree in your cap! PG isn’t a course, it is a platform for each one to explore their interests, push themselves to the maximum limit and bring out the best in them. Always remember, that you owe something to every other student/batch-mate who studies with you during Masters. Same way as you have taken it up with good intentions to absorb new learnings and gain experience, your colleagues too are there for the same reason. Hence, don’t just sit back and do what you are ‘supposed’ to do. Everyone does that. But it is very important that you offer your knowledge and opinions as well. By interaction, healthy competitive work and hard work, through questions, answers and sharing ideas, a rich process is generated within the course and that is what becomes fruitful at the end of the day, not just the degree or scores! As Rahul says, these years of Masters that we put in, no one has the right over it except you. No one will take it back from you; No one can give it to you. It’s up to you to make the most out of it!
Thank you Maithily for letting us interview you. Your earnest and detailed answers are much appreciated. - Doodle Dialogue

Ar. Maithily Velangi’s Master’s thesis summary: URBAN PARK Interfacing environment, heritage and culture. The 156 acres of forested area, of the colonial era, with a set of built mass which served as a Vaccine Institute then, sits in the suburb of Belgaum city, Karnataka. With increasing urbanisation and with growing requirement for land, this 156 acres of heritage land, which was lying defunct from 1977 till date is under great pressure for development. This thesis studies the fragility of this site against the unrecognised potentials it carries to justify the role it can play while being amidst the city. The problems of urbanisation are not just related to lack of open spaces but also other environmental and productive issues that a growing metropolis faces such as food production, water security, environmental issues such as air pollution, etc. Apart from quantitative lack, there is also a dearth of qualitative and consolidated spaces. Though this open space cannot address and resolve the environmental issues of the entire city, it can, however, situate itself to give an opportunity to cater to public health, urban requirements and local recreation. Apart from these basic notions of an open space functioning at the metaphysical level, it creates a sense of continuing heritage and culture for the city of Belgaum due to its historical importance. The historical relevance of the space was developed as a ground supported with ancillary facilities to function as integrated urban park for the city of Belgaum.
