ICT as a tool of political communication

In the current years, social media are considered to have a major influence on public communication and discourse in society. Particularly, social media has a major impact on politics. In the very recent times, social networking sites, for instance, Facebook and microblogging sites, for instance, Twitter are believed to possess huge potential and credibility for increasing participation of political parties and candidates. Twitter has become an ideal and effective platform for the global users to spread general as well as opinions at the political front publicly through their institutions and networks of politics (Kelm et al. 2017). People and institutions associated with politics are using Facebook groups or pages in order to enter into direct and active dialogue with the citizens and thus have been able to encourage more political discussions.

•Technological advancement and social media platforms

The Internet has been able to transform the way of political communication in most parts of the world. ICTs (Information Communication Technologies) have provided the politician's vast opportunities to communicate and campaign with their electorate in creative and novel ways. In comparison with any new practice of communication, the use of ICTs in the political campaign has majorly triggered both hopes and opportunities of its potential democratic impact as well as increased concerns for impending adversities (Karlsson and Åström, 2018). In the present time of technological advancement, the advent of social media including Youtube, Twitter and Facebook have been leading to the modernization of political communication. All around the world politicians have increasingly sought to capitalize on the new and maximum opportunities offered by these applications, and they have highly embarked on new and innovative strategies for campaigning, information and mobilization gathering and new and unique modes of fundraising.

•Twitter and politics

Twitter has been considered as one of the new and innovative social media technologies that allow instant and short dissemination of data fragments from a variety of unofficial and official sources. Twitter is mostly a microblogging site which highly enables the people to publish direct blogs or messages of up to 140 characters. The interest of politicians for the usage of Twitter increased when John Edwards and Barack Obama used it for the purpose of informing their electorates their whereabouts and upcoming events during the Democratic Party primaries in the USA (The Atlantic, 2019).

•Social media and creative political information

The political parties all over the world have found that new and innovative social media platforms are providing them with new ways of disseminating and managing political information and views. The information revolution has majorly led to a plethora of information for politically interested citizens (Nulty et al. 2016). Social media majorly helps the political leaders to present their opinion and information in a more sophisticated and creative manner. The use of a variety of techniques and symbols are majorly cursing sentimental reactions. This has been majorly helping politicians in building sentimental bonds with their electorates. In the present times, political parties give major priority to the design of social media campaigns as in the process of building communication with common people social media campaigning have become highly influential and effective these days.
