WHAT OTHER LENTILS may be USED FOR PAPAD DAL CURRY?
Split moong dal may also be used rather than or together with chana dal.
CAN I ADD COCONUT MILK FOR THIS RECIPE?
Yes, you'll add thick 1/2cup of coconut milk for this recipe and add 1 tbs of fennel powder.
HOW does one SERVE APPALAM KOOTU?
This Appalam kootu may be served with garlic curry or any tamarind based gravy.

1 tsp Fennel seeds
1 sprig Curry leaves
2 Onions
3 Tomatoes
1 cup Chana dal (pressure cooked)
2 tsp Chilli powder
1 tsp Salt
TO GRIND:
5 pieces Coconut
1 tsp Fennel seeds
Heat up the oil within the pan, add fennel seeds and curry leaves.
Add the onions and cook the tip. The onions turn translucent.
Add the tomatoes and cook for 3 mins.
Add within the chilli powder, turmeric powder and sauté until the raw smell disappears.
Add within the grinded coconut paste, chana dal, water and cook for five mins then throw the stove.
Fry the papas.
Mix the pappad to the gravy and let it rest for 10 mins.
Sprinkle some coriander leaves.
Serve Hot with rice, Chapati, idli or dosa.
