Shradh (Pitru Paksha)
Ancestral Blessings, Date, Rituals, and Significance
In the Hindu tradition, various customs, fasts, and festivals are celebrated, among which Shradh (Pitru Paksha) holds a significant place. This period is dedicated to paying homage to ancestors, ensuring their peace and salvation through specific rituals.
Significance of Shradh
Shradh rituals have been practiced since the Vedic period with the purpose of honoring deceased ancestors and praying for their souls’ satisfaction. It is believed that offering water during Shradh brings peace to the ancestors’ souls. According to Hindu belief, human life is a precious gift attained after many cycles of birth and rebirth, and performing Shradh is considered a son’s duty to his ancestors.
Importance of Pitru Paksha
Pitru Paksha is a 16-day period from the full moon day of Bhadrapada month to the new moon day of Ashwin month in the Hindu calendar. It is believed that during this time, ancestors visit the earth to receive offerings. By performing Shradh with devotion during Pitru Paksha, the souls of ancestors attain peace, and family members receive their blessings, mitigating any effects of Pitra Dosh (ancestral debt).
Rituals of Shradh
On the designated Shradh date, individuals wake up early, bathe, and wear clean clothes. They pledge to perform Shradh and donate for the peace of their ancestors. Satvik food is prepared, and offerings are made to the deceased family member’s photograph. The rituals include:
Tarpan: Offering water to ancestors.
Pind Daan: Offering rice balls mixed with sesame seeds.
Feeding Brahmins: Serving food to Brahmins and seeking their blessings.
Offering food to animals: Feeding cows, crows, dogs, and other creatures.
Performing Shradh
Traditionally, the eldest son performs Shradh. In the absence of a son, the wife, elder brother, grandson, great-grandson, daughter-in-law, or nephew can perform the rituals. The rituals are considered especially meritorious when performed at holy places (Teertha Kshetras).
Dates for Pitru Paksha 2024
Pitru Paksha in 2024 starts on September 17 and ends on October 2. Specific dates and corresponding Tithis (lunar days) and Nakshatras (constellations) are as follows:

Ekadashi fast holds an important place in Hindu religion . Every year there are 24 Ekadashis. When Adhikamas or Malamas arrive, their number increases to 26. Parivartini Ekadashi is considered to be the most important Ekadashi fast of all. Charitable acts on Ekadashi are often dedicated to Lord Vishnu, as Ekadashi is considered one of His sacred days. Giving to the less fortunate is seen as an offering to the divine. It's important to note that while charity and acts of giving are emphasized on Ekadashi, the specific customs and traditions may vary among different regions and communities within Hinduism. Lord Vishnu goes into Yoga Nidra from Devshayani Ekadashi and on the Ekadashi of Bhadrapada Shukla Paksha, he changes sides on his Sheshashaiya. The worship and fasting of this Ekadashi is considered especially fruitful.

Shri Yudhishthira Maharaja asked of Lord Shri Krishna, "What is the name of that Ekadashi that occurs during the light fortnight (Shukla paksha) of the month of Bhadrapada (August-September "Hrishikesha mase")? Who is the worshipable Deity for this Ekadashi, and what merit does one attain in observing it? Kindly reveal all of this to me my Lord." The Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Shri Krishna addressed His devoted Yudhishthira as follows, "This Ekadashii, Oh Yudhishthira, is called Vamana Ekadashi, and it bestows upon those who observe it both great merit and ultimate liberation from material bondage. Therefore, because it removes all one's sinful reactions, it is also called Jayanti Ekadashi. Just hearing of its glories frees one from all his past misdeeds. So auspicious is this fast that observing it bestows the same merit as that earned by performing a horse sacrifice. There is no better Ekadashi than this, because it awards liberation so easily. Thus if one truly desires freedom from the punishing material world, one should fast on Vamana Ekadashi. "While observing this holy fast, a Vaishnava should lovingly worship the Supreme Lord in His form as Vamandev, the dwarf incarnation, whose eyes are like lotus petals. By doing so, he worships all other Deities as well, including Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva, and at death he undoubtedly goes to that abode of Shri Hari. In all the three worlds there is no fast that is more important to observe. The reason this Ekadashi is so auspicious is that it celebrates the day when the sleeping Lord Vishnu turns over on His other side; thus it is also known as Parivartinii Ekadashi." Maharaja Yudhishthira then asked of the Lord, "Oh Janardana, please clear up a question I have. How is it that the Supreme Lord sleeps and then turns over on His side? Oh Lord, when You are asleep what happens to all the other living entities? Please also tell me how You bound the king of the demons, Bali Daityaraj (Bali Maharaja), as well as how one may please the brahmanas. How does one observe Chaturmasya, which You mention in the Chaturmasya-mahatmya of the Bhavishya Purana? Kindly be merciful to me and answer these questions." https://www.instagram.com/p/CiNMKwvspCP/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Upcoming year Griha Pravesh Dates and Timing for 2020 or Griha Pravesh Muhurat / Vastu Shastra 2020
Home entrance ceremony or home entrance is an important moment in a person's life. This is because, when it comes to property investment, property buyers are generally particular about auspicious days. It is believed that organizing a Griha Pravesh ceremony on an auspicious day brings good luck.
Griha pravesh Muhurtas are calculated on the basis of dates (Tithis), Days, Lagna and Nakshatras.
Griha Pravesh as per Vedic Text
According to Vedic beliefs, the month of Magha, Phalguna, Jyeshtha, and Vaisakha is best for the Griha pravesha Muhurat.
Home building ceremonies are prohibited during the four months or Chaturmas, such as Ashadha, Shravana, Bhadrapada and Ashwin. It is believed that all the deities including Lord Vishnu rest during this period. Apart from these months, Paush month is also considered inauspicious for home entry.
Homework can be done on all other days of the week, except Tuesday. However, in some exceptional situations, it is forbidden to enter a new house on Sundays and Saturdays.
Shukla paksha's Dvitiya, Tritiya, Panchami, Saptami, Dashami, Ekadashi, Dwadashi and Trayodashi are considered auspicious for home grown celebrations, except Amavasya and Poornima.
 Types of Griha Pravesh are:-
It is believed that a Home warming ceremony or Griha pravesha is done to enter the new house, which is wrong. According to Vastu Shastra, there are generally 3 types:
Apoorva: When someone enters their new house to live, it is called Apoorva Griha.
Sapoorva: If a person lives in some other place and leaves his house empty due to some issues. Then, after some time when they return to their house, it is called Sapoorva Griha Pravesh.
Dwandhav: If a person has to leave his house helpless due to natural disaster. Then, he has to do the Griha pravesha Puja Vidhan to stay in his old house. This is known as the duel house.
Home Entry After Complete Construction (Home Construction Work)
Occasionally, it has been observed that people enter their under-construction house. According to Hinduism, this activity is not considered correct and some rituals need to be followed before homecoming. Such as:
With complete construction of the roof of the house, avoid entering the home until the main door is placed in your new house. After homecoming, try not to lock your main door as it is considered inauspicious.
Tips for entering your new home
·        Always enter home on auspicious day. The idols should be placed in the east direction of the house.
·        To cleanse and purify the place, wipe the floor of the house with salt.
·        When entering the house, always place the right foot first.
·        The main gate should be decorated with mango leaves and fresh flowers, as it is called the lion gate and is the face of the Vastu Purush.
·        Rangoli on the floor is believed to invite Goddess Lakshmi. Decorate the floor with rangoli using vibrant colors.
Akshaya Tritiya is the best time to ceremonialize your new home, as this day is considered an auspicious day. Akshaya Tritiya is also the right time to buy or invest a property, as property dealers offer a variety of discounts, schemes and freebies to entice customers.

Shradh rituals can be performed on the Amavasya (new moon) of each month, but the most significant period for these rituals is the fortnight from the full moon of the Bhadrapada month to the new moon of the Ashwin month. This period is called Pitru Paksha, a time when it is believed that ancestors visit Earth to receive offerings from their descendants.
Significance of Shradh and Pitru Paksha
Shradh has been practiced since the Vedic period, emphasizing the importance of honoring ancestors. According to Hindu beliefs, a soul goes through 8.4 million life forms before attaining a human birth. Performing Shradh rituals is a son’s duty, and it is believed that these rituals bring peace to the souls of ancestors, helping them attain salvation and alleviating Pitra Dosh (ancestral affliction) from the family. The rituals include offering water (Tarpan), food, and prayers to satisfy the souls of the ancestors.

Rituals of Shradh
Preparation: Begin by waking up before sunrise, taking a bath, and wearing clean clothes. Take a pledge to perform Shradh with full devotion.
Fasting and Cooking: Observe a fast and prepare satvik (pure and vegetarian) food with devotion.
Offering Food: Place food on a plate in front of the deceased ancestor’s photo and invite them to partake with prayers and folded hands.
Feeding a Brahmin: Feed a Brahmin to his heart’s content and offer donations. Seek his blessings after the meal.
Animal Feeding: Offer Gogras (cow’s food) to cows and Panchagras to crows, dogs, and other animals.
Pitru Paksha Rituals at Shree Krishnayan Gauraksha
At Shree Krishnayan Gauraksha in Haridwar, experienced priests conduct Shradh Puja with deep respect to Vedic traditions. Services include:
Tirth Shradh & Tarpan: Performed on the banks of the Ganga to elevate the deceased soul.
Yagya & Pooja: Detailed rituals for peace and happiness of the deceased if the death occurred over a year ago.

Bhandara: Feeding 11 saints or Brahmins for the peace of the departed soul.
Gaugrass: Feeding cows green grass, wheat bran, and jaggery to satisfy the souls of ancestors.
Conclusion
Performing Shradh during Pitru Paksha is a profound act of devotion, bringing peace to ancestors and prosperity to the living family. Observing these rituals with sincerity ensures the blessings of the departed, enhancing the spiritual and material well-being of the family.

🔹Simple solution for planetary, Vastu, and evil peace - Vishnu Sahasranama🔹
🔸By performing the ritual of 'Vishnu Sahasranama Stotra' properly, all planets, and constellations are protected. , Vaastu defects are pacified. There are a lot of benefits in education, health, and job-business. It is also very beneficial in court cases and other problems related to enemy troubles. After performing this ritual and conceiving, pious souls come to the house. During pregnancy, the husband-wife and family members should recite it.
🔸Method of ritual: First of all, sit on a stool Spread a white cloth. Put some rice on it. Place a small copper pot filled with water on it. Place a lotus flower in it. If a lotus flower is not available at all, then place a gooseberry flower in it. Place a fruit near the pot. Then Mentally install the four Vedas on a copper urn and recite the 'Vishnu Sahasranama' hymn seven times, if possible in one sitting in the morning, and read the result once. Do this for seven or twenty-one days. Change the flowers and fruits every day and keep the flowers of the previous day in your books, office, safe, or other important places for twenty-four hours and later bury them in the ground. Collect rice grains in a vessel every day and at the end of the ritual cook them and offer them to a cow. Feed it to the child or distribute it as prasad. On the last day of the ritual, offer halwa to God.
🔸If possible, start this ritual in the Shukla Paksha. You can start it anytime during a crisis. If women get their periods in the middle of the ritual, then do not do so. If religious days come, then the ritual should be stopped on those days and started again later. Count the days ahead of the number of days the ritual was performed.
🔹Note: The scriptures say that sexual intercourse should not be done during Pradoshkaal (prohibited time). Those whose conception has taken place at an inappropriate time due to lack of knowledge should perform this ritual for the peace of the planets for their child.
🔸Unsuitable time for conception: evening time, birthday, full moon, new moon, Pratipada, Ashtami, Ekadashi, Pradosh (time near sunset on Trayodashi), Chaturdashi, solar eclipse, lunar eclipse, Uttarayan, Janmashtami, Ramnavami, Holi, Shivaratri, Sexual intercourse is completely prohibited during festivals like Navaratri etc. (coordination period of two dates) and in the first five days of menstruation.
