doing as I was told and dumping my thoughts about Rand here. He’s so fun and complex and I think my favorite thing I’ve noticed being done is the importance of his clothes and stuff, specifically his denim jacket and glasses. Like how, so far at least, whenever he does something with either of those two items it sorta signals a certain amount of sincerity or care from him (he takes his glasses off to speak to his mom in the basement and offers Rolan his jacket before they get to the hospital). It’s like these two bits of clothing are his shields that he uses to upkeep his specific persona of cool stoner guy, but whenever he is without either of them then it’s just him. It’s like a tangible version of Rand v Timothy.

How much do you think Kian felt like he failed? He grew up with parents who didn’t care about what he did, rarely did an adult try to help and direct him on a study path (it was only Donna and Mr. Dickman who saw any potential in him), and he tried so hard to prove himself

He talked a big game about moving to California to make it as a rockstar and he failed. He became a stockbroker instead. He couldn’t make it. He was supposed to be the one who got out and made it big, never looking back to that little town, yet that was Rolan, not Kian.

Did he ever wish to just move back home? Call it quits and at least be successful in that small town? Or did he fear it was supposed to be this way all along? Him finding out he was never worth anything more, he could never do anything more, and he could never become anything more than he was.

The butterfly tattoo on his chest, once a symbol of the coming future, now just a painful reminder of all that he failed to become and everyone he let down
