Boo Buie is Here to Play: The Ball-Handling Prodigy from Northwestern
As a basketball enthusiast, I couldn’t help but be impressed by Northwestern’s Boo Buie during yesterday’s games of March Madness. His ball-handling ability was simply out of this world, and he managed to create space against his defenders with ease. Watching his highlights, I couldn’t help but feel inspired by his incredible talent. What struck me even more about Buie was his background, as I…

Surging Northwestern Upends No. 15 Indiana, 84-83 : Inside US
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Boo Buie scored 26 points and Northwestern beat No. 15 Indiana 84-83 on Sunday for its second road victory against a ranked opponent this season. The Wildcats (12-3, 3-1 Big Ten), who knocked off then-No. 20 Michigan State 70-63 on Dec. 4, have won seven of eight games. The Hoosiers (10-5, 1-3) have lost four of six. Bouie made 10 of 18 shots. Chase Audige had 19 points…

The Eye of the World, Ch1 Part 4
Hi everyone!  I'm finally going to be finishing chapter 1 in this post.  I'm also looking at possibly changing a few things about how I go about this project, and would love to know what you all think of the post lengths and level of detail so far.  Am I going into too much detail?  Should I try shorter or longer posts?  I'm still experimenting with the format a bit, and trying to figure out what works best.
As I mentioned above, this post covers Rand and Tam arriving at the inn, through the end of Chapter 1.
Events: Lots of talking.  Father and son encounter the innkeeper, who is also the mayor.  Another member of the village council joins them with ominous predictions.  They talk for a bit, when a friend of Rand's shows up.  The friend has seen the shadowy rider too.  Eventually Tam enlists both of them to help bring the drinks into the inn's cellar.
Characters:  We met 3 new characters, all bringing in different view points. The first was Bran al'Vere, innkeeper/mayor.  He seems likable, and sensible.  He seems to be trying to cheer people up since everyone has been suffering so much with the extended winter.  It's clear he values people's spirits as much as their bodies, as he got the village council to agree to paying the high costs of ordering fireworks and bringing in a gleeman for the festival.
Next came Cenn Buie, AKA Mr. Doom and Gloom.  He joined Rand, Tam and Bran in discussing current events.  I'm starting to wonder if every guy in the village has a 1 syllable name.  Also, could someone please let me know if there is any agreement regarding how Cenn Buie is pronounced?  I've been pronouncing it Sen Boo-ee, but I have no idea to what degree that is right vs. butchering the name.
Anyway, Cenn is a bit of a grouch, who was against spending the money needed for the fireworks and gleeman.  He also suggested that winter might never end, and if he's saying that as a member of the village council, there are probably at least a few other people in the village who are worried about the same thing.
The final new character we meet is Matrim Cauthon, who of course goes by Mat.  He snuck up while the men were talking, to try to get Rand to sneak away with him to have some fun.  Apparently Mat is a bit of a legend in the village as a prankster.
I find Mat as a prankster interesting.  Another way of thinking of a prankster is a trickster.  I read a book once analyzing the trickster archetype, especially in mythology.  It argued that tricksters are often "in between" characters.  Neither completely good nor completely bad, neither truly familiar nor wholly other, they  transverse worlds, and are often sources of chaos.
Even if Mat doesn't turn out to be a wild-card trickster type, he's worth keeping an eye if for no other reason than he's one of Rand's closest friends.
I also found the dynamics between Rand and Mat interesting.  When Mat heard Rand wouldn't be joining him for the badger release, he abandoned the idea instead of doing it without Rand.  I can't tell yet if this is indicative of Rand being more a leader and Mat more a follower, or if it just suggests how close they are with each other, that Mat would rather be with a friend than play a prank.
Shadowy figure update: The dark rider was apparently not a figment of Rand's imagination, nor a trick of the light.  Mat saw the same figure the day before.  So far, neither of them have been believed, and while Mat wants to come forward as a united force in an attempt to be believed, Rand is hesitant, as there still isn't any proof, and he's not certain anyone will take their world for it, even if there are 2 of them.
Other: I didn't find the mood as intense as earlier in the chapter, in part because there were actually things happening instead of just Rand taking everything in.
That brings us to the end of chapter 1, and I'm going to be jumping right into Chapter 2, although because I'm playing around with format and other things, I'm not sure when I'll be posing.  Reset assured though, even if it takes a while, I do fully plan to keep going with this project.

Purdue basketball vs. Northwestern TV, radio, series history
The Boilermakers (15-3, 4-3 Big Ten) stumbled in Bloomington to suffer its first loss to the Hoosiers in six years. Jaden Ivey had a strong second half and got help from Mason Gillis and Zach Edey, but poor free throw shooting forcing just 3 IU turnovers doomed Purdue.
The Wildcats (9-7, 2-5) won at then-No. 10 Michigan State last weekend and gave No. 8 Wisconsin all it could handle earlier this week before falling 82-76. Pete Nance leads Northwestern in scoring (16.6), rebounding (7.6) and blocked shots (1.5). Boo Buie averages 14.9 points and 5.6 assists and has 33 3-pointers. Freshman Brooks Barnhizer from Lafayette Jeff has appeared in five games.
Keep up with the Boilermakers by following Mike Carmin.

Here is the latest Pennsylvania sports news from The Associated Press

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Saints safety Malcolm Jenkins doesn’t hide what an emotional and nostalgic week this is for him. Jenkins is trying to win his third career Super Bowl and second with New Orleans. But this weekend takes Jenkins back to Philadelphia. That’s where he also won a championship with the Eagles and spent the previous six seasons. Jenkins says he loves Philadelphia and makes it his offseason home. But he says key Eagles’ decision-makers no longer seemed to value what he had left to offer. He says his decision to rejoin the club that drafted him in 2009 has “obviously” worked out.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Steelers’ struggling running game received a boost when James Conner was activated off the reserve/COVID-19 list. Conner missed each of Pittsburgh’s last two games, including a 23-17 upset loss to Washington that ended the Steelers’ bid for an unbeaten season. Pittsburgh (11-1) managed 21 yards on 14 carries, the franchise’s lowest single-game rushing total since 1970. Conner has run for a team-high 645 yards and five touchdowns, including an 89-yard performance against Jacksonville in his previous start last month. He is expected to be in the starting lineup when Pittsburgh visits surging Buffalo (9-3).
NEW YORK (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs have regained the top spot in the latest AP Pro32 poll. The Chiefs inched up a spot after holding off the Denver Broncos. The New Orleans Saints moved up a place to No. 2. The Pittsburgh Steelers slipped two places from No. 1 after losing to Washington on Monday night. And the Green Bay Packers and Buffalo Bills remained at Nos. 4 and 5, respectively.
UNDATED (AP) — The Pittsburgh Steelers still haven’t clinched a spot in the postseason yet despite an 11-1 record. They will wrap up the AFC North with a win Sunday night at Buffalo and if Cleveland loses to Baltimore on Monday night. In the NFC, the Green Bay Packers can clinch the NFC North with a win over the Detroit Lions or a loss by Minnesota to Tampa Bay. The defending champion Kansas City Chiefs clinched a playoff spot last week and can wrap up the AFC West with a win or tie against Miami or a loss or tie by the Las Vegas Raiders.
EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) — Xavier Johnson scored 21 points and fed Justin Champagnie for the game-winning basket with 5.6-seconds to play and Pittsburgh rallied to defeat Northwestern 71-70 in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. After Boo Buie missed a pair of free throws with 16.3 seconds left, Johnson took the ball up court and penetrated along the left side of the lane, dumping the ball underneath to Champagnie when the double-team came. That was the only lead of the game for the Panthers and Northwestern never got a good look at a winning basket. Champagnie scored 20 points and corralled a career-high 20 rebounds for Pitt. Buie led Northwestern with 14 points.
ATLANTA (AP) — Georgia Tech will try to send the seniors out in style when it finally plays the last game of the season at Bobby Dodd Stadium. Of course, in this most unusual of years, there’s a chance they’ll return in 2021. The NCAA has granted an extra year of eligibility because of the coronavirus pandemic, adding another level of uncertainty to a season filled with all sorts of twists and turns. The 3-6 Yellow Jackets will host 5-5 Pittsburgh on Thursday night in a game that was supposed to be held Nov. 14, only to be postponed because of the pandemic.
