Best Weekend Ever: Dr. Dog, Lake Street Dive, Cheesesteak and More!
Best Weekend Ever: Dr. Dog, Lakestreet Dive, Cheesesteak!
Featured Image by Amanda Silberling The beautiful weather was short-lived as we plunge into chilly nights again this St. Patty’s Day weekend. Bundle up and bring your friends out to the show for company and warmth. Although, with the amount of moving you’ll be doing to the music, you’re probably fine without bringing that one friend who tries to climb onto the stage. Photo by Wakana Narisako…

Interview With: The Lawsuits
Tumblr media
First off, please introduce yourself and tell us what you do in the band!
My name is Brian Dale Allen Strouse. I sing, play guitar & piano, and I am the chief songwriter for The Lawsuits.
You recently released your newest album, Cool Cool Cool. How have the fans reactions been so far?
The reaction has been good. We felt strongly about this album prior to it's release, and we see this album as being the best thing that we've produced thus far. We intend on continuing to push the album with the hope that we can reach more people - There are quite a few individuals that haven't heard the album that might just like it. It's a matter of figuring out how to get it into their speakers.
In a recent interview, you guys have said that you will no longer stick to being only one kind of band that can only make one type of music. That's something very admirable considering most people feel like they need to stick to certain standards. What made you come to this conclusion in really staying true to who you are?
Cool Cool Cool is a refreshing and different album to listen to. It's great to hear a fusion of sounds that you typically would not expect. What influences or inspires you as a band and the music you create - and why?
Our influences can be extracted from our music to some degree. Most of the artists that influence us influence other musicians as well. Where the inspiration to be influenced comes from is something I cannot truthfully answer because I don't know. The "why", from any level, is always the most difficult one to answer. For example: when children ask questions, they receive answers, and they ask why - tough to answer, right?
If The Lawsuits could create a dream tour, who would be on it and what would it be called?
One dream tour would be us and The Rolling Stones. Their people would probably be best suited to name the tour.
It seems like most of your songs revolve around the concept of love. When writing the songs on this album, did you write off of personal experience or whatever happened, happened?
Songs illicit emotion. It could be that some of the songs off the album were loosely influenced by certain experiences, but it seems more likely that they were just written - It's hard to write specific lyrics about a specific event and make it work, lyrically. Bits and pieces of lyrics are influenced by actual experiences: Track 10 - Odd like a Hymn (Flies in the Butter) "When I needed help, I watched you roaches all scatter. I guess I didn't really matter, I had nothing to give".  I suppose this could be applied to the divorce of my parents and subsequent collapse of my own family. However, words rarely describe, accurately, what actually happened - They just toy around with feelings that are occurring at that moment. Feelings are fleeting and inconsistent, unreliable, and in my own experience, can't be defined by way of words.
What can we expect next from The Lawsuits?
As long as the sun still rises, we'll be making more. We're currently in the process of starting a new album. We expect to have a new EP by spring 2014, and a new LP by Fall 2014.
Thank you for your time! Anything else you'd like to add?
