NDLEA Seizes 14.5 Tons Of ‘Ghanaian Loud’ Linked to wanted Lagos Drug Baron
Tumblr media
Operatives from various specialized units of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have successfully intercepted significant shipments of Cocaine and Colorado, a potent strain of cannabis. The illicit drugs were concealed within containerized household items and vehicles imported from Durban, South Africa, and Canada at the Tincan Seaport in Lagos. Coordinated intelligence efforts and months of tracking by three special NDLEA units led to the seizure of these illicit substances, along with arms, ammunition, and various military effects. Joint examinations by NDLEA officers, Customs Service, and other security agencies took place between Thursday, January 18, and Friday, January 19, 2024. The deployment of NDLEA's sniffer dogs aided in identifying locations and bags used to hide the illicit items. The seized items included 1,274 parcels of Cocaine and Colorado weighing 884.09 kilograms, four pistols, 197 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 49 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, 275 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, 14 rounds of 9mm ammunition, and various military personnel effects. While one shipment of Colorado (32.5kg) arrived in used vehicles from Canada, the rest were found in two containers from Durban, South Africa. A suspect linked to one of the containers, Akara Chibugo, was tracked and arrested. Additionally, two vigilant freight agents and a traveler prevented two drug trafficking operations at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. The agents, contacted to send a consignment of 1kg of cannabis concealed in Milo beverage tins to Turkey, chose to submit the shipment to NDLEA checks, leading to the discovery of the psychoactive substance. In a similar event, NDLEA operatives arrested Okosun Paul Punitt, the consignee of a shipment of tramadol concealed in a bottle of dietary supplements. The staff of Pathfinder International Ltd, Ajuzieogu Mac-Elvis Ugochukwu, attempted to send the consignment to Accra, Ghana, but a vigilant passenger suspected illicit substances, leading to further investigation and the arrest of Okosun. In Kano, NDLEA seized 5,653,000 pills of tramadol 250mg and exol-5 from three suspects. Two were arrested with 5,404,000 pills of tramadol 250mg, while another was nabbed with 249,000 tablets of exol-5. In Lagos, Ali Abubakar and Murtala Sani were arrested with 110kg of cannabis sativa, and 69kg of the same substance was recovered from the hideout of a fleeing suspect in Akerele, Surulere. A raid operation in Abuja led to the recovery of 2,800 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup, with the suspected owner, Jideofor Sochima, still at large. In Taraba, NDLEA seized 100,510 pills of opioids from a suspect, Ike Emmanuel. In Abia state, a 60-year-old Joseph Isiguzoro, along with Emmanuel Eugene and Malachi Ndu, were arrested with 34,200 pills of opioids. Isiguzoro was also found with a monetary exhibit totaling N2,885,045. The NDLEA's War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign continued with sensitization lectures at various institutions, including the Federal University of Technology in Akwa Ibom, Federal Government College in Lagos, Edusoko University in Niger state, and Community Secondary School in Kano state. Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), commended the officers and men across various commands for their efforts in the arrests and seizures. He urged them to remain focused and resolute in achieving the agency's goal of combating substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking in Nigeria, emphasizing the importance of collaboration with other law enforcement agencies and stakeholders. By • Olalekan Fagbade NDLEA will deploy personnel in 774 LGAs nationwide to fight drug war – Marwa The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), has said the anti-narcotics agency will deploy personnel in all 774 local government areas of the country in 2024 as part of efforts to strengthen the war against substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking especially in local communities. Marwa made the pledge while responding to a request for partnership and deployment of more NDLEA officers in all parts of Katsina by the state governor, Dr. Dikko Umaru Radda, to tame the problem of drug abuse and insecurity in the state. This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy. According to the statement, Marwa said, “With the Agency’s staff strength expected to rise to 15,000 by the end of the year, the next development was to deploy in the LGAs. “We currently have zonal commands, state commands, and area commands. We want to go to the LGAs for the offensive action and the advocacy work. We would need more support to succeed. I appreciate the work of the Katsina governor as the challenges are numerous in governing the state. But if insecurity is a problem and is fueled by drugs, I believe we have to collectively take it out of the security equation.” He commended Governor Radda for his efforts to surmount the various challenges faced and enhance the socio-economic development of the state. According to him, “The drug menace is a huge issue and has destroyed the lives of our youths and communities. It is the public enemy number one, and especially the criminal aspect of it. 99% of the criminals must first have access to drugs and be under the influence to perpetrate some of their acts. That is why the NDLEA under the collective support of the directorates and the management has put all efforts towards operation ‘offensive action. “The preventive measure faces those who have not started or are about starting drug use. They are targeted through advocacy and sensitisation across all levels. It is for this reason we structured the WADA initiative from the National to LGA levels. “We appeal to the government to have a state drug control committee of which the NDLEA will be the secretary and the chairperson would be the First Lady of the state. The first ladies are in the strategic position, because they are the mothers and have the best interest of the government at heart.” Speaking earlier, Radda said he was at the Agency as part of his government’s efforts to solve the problem of insecurity facing the state. “This synergy is important and I recognize that the NDLEA has been making a lot of efforts in supporting the government. But we still need more support from the Chairman/Chief Executive to stop the movement of drugs and ensure the arrest and prosecution of dealers in the state. We are appealing for better partnership and synergy to reduce the abuse of drugs, the activities of banditry and trafficking in the state. “We hope the partnership will go a long way in alleviating the issues of the state and improving the economy,” the governor noted. #NDLEAtodeploypersonnelto774LGAsnationwidetofightdrugwarsaysMarwa

Spokesperson of the agency, Femi Babafemi, who disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, January 29, 2023, said the special operation came on the heels of a warning by the Chairman of the Agency, Brig. "Leaders of the cartel which spreads across Dubai, UAE; Cotonou, Benin Republic; Togo; Oman, Thailand and Europe as well as Lagos, Imo and Onitsha in Anambra state, had while on Christmas and New Year holidays in their villages were still coordinating efforts to send their illicit consignments to Dubai and other parts of the world.," the statement read. NDLEA boss chides AdekunleGold, Burnaboy and co for glorifying dr¥g ab¥se in their songs . . Chairman, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd) has ber@ted Nigerian artistes who glorify the ab¥se of dr¥gs and substances in their songs. . . He lamented how the drug-promoting lyrics from songs have become a buzzword among youths, noting how the young population, on the strength of these songs, have come to see dr¥g ab¥se as a ‘grand idea of leisure’. . . The NDLEA boss who was represented by Dr. Segun Oke said this during the 2nd edition of the Vanguard Mental Health Summit held in Lagos on Thursday with the theme being: ‘Mental Health in a Distressed Economy’. According to Marwa, dr¥g ab¥se is a ‘serious’ problem in the country, revealing that 10.6 million Nigerians ab¥se cannabis. . . He stated that the agency has continued to put measures in place to curb the ab¥se of dr¥g and substances in the country. “The “high syndrome” is so entrenched among young people it has become a sort of self-prescription therapy for dealing with some of life’s issues. For some, it is the grand idea of leisure. It is a buzzword in their everyday life and a motif in popular music. Off hand, I can give you three quick examples of hit songs that glorify the ab¥se of psychoactive substances in the name of “getting high”. . . ‘I just want to be high’, ‘I need Igbo and Shayo’, ‘Sometimes food no dey give man joy, but Canadian loud, the feeling is different.’ These street anthems motivate young people to ab¥se alcohol, c@nnabis and other illicit substances. It is now commonplace for young people to organise cannabis parties,” he said. Follow us for more trending updates #9jafastlink #news https://www.instagram.com/p/ClYAuTcKZt2/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
