Day 16: Bruno Bucciarati

My thought of the day: Bruno Bucellati has the most beautiful laugh.

For all the grief and pain and loss he’s witnessed at such a young age, there are times you worry for him. He’s so serious sometimes, puts on a brave face so frequently in the face of unfathomable challenges. But in reality, it almost seems he feels joy more deeply than anyone else you’ve met, letting it wash over him- almost as if to make up for everything else.

Bruno has the brightest and most infectious laugh you’ve ever heard. One that makes it virtually impossible not to laugh and smile with him, the sound of it bright and loud and long and clear. I don’t mean a reserved chuckle in passing conversations, but the moments where he really, genuinely laughs. He laughs hard, head thrown back, nose scrunched and eyes squeezed shut, holding his sides. In the moments when Bruno is alone with the people he cherishes and he lets out a truly happy laugh, he’s beautiful. He looks young, the extra weight of his years melting away as he catches his breath and wipes the tears beading at the corners of his eyes. In that moment, he could be any twenty-something young man, smiling with all the radiance of the sun as he feels a moment of pure happiness.

Do you ever think about how much Bruno lost from such a young age? Bruno, who always had such a strong sense of morals and learned right and wrong from his dad, and now he knows those morals have gotten grayer and lines have been crossed since he’s moved higher up in Passione.

Bruno, who may have gone home and cried the first time he killed someone. Or worse, sat there staring blankly and wishing he could cry. Wondering if he had lost a piece of himself or of his humanity, if he was becoming a monster. Bruno who had to grow up much too fast. Who’s somewhat glad that these ragtag teens and lost souls wound up with him if with anyone…. But it’s bittersweet because they still deserve better. They’re in the mafia, for fuck’s sake, their youths being torn away from them like his had been. A part of him wants to be some sort of mentor, some positive presence. A part of him knows he shouldn’t get attached to anyone when they lead such dangerous lives.

Bruno who’s patented a warm smile that looks real enough that no one will ask him any questions. Bruno who feels so fucking lonely some days. Bruno who sometimes isn’t even sure if he recognizes himself. Bruno who wonders if it’s all been worth it. If he’s really putting more good out into the world than bad. If it’ll ever be enough. Bruno who wonders, if his dad could see the young man that he’s become…. would he understand? Would he be proud? Bruno hopes so.

have you considered making a masterlist?

Hi bby! I do plan on setting up a masterlist eventually, but I’m a bit of a mess and just need to figure out the best way to do it, I suppose. I do try to run things with a tagging system, but that’s not always as neatly organized as it should be, and I may have to rethink some tags with the tumblr censorship update.
