New Korra picture book
Based on Airspeed's last video, it looks like there will be a new Korra picture book coming in 2027 (!?) that will be along the same vein as the ATLA Heart of Hero picture books that have been coming out. Interestingly, the author for the upcoming Korra picture book seems to be a travel writer so not sure if they have the wrong author listed. Here's some more info from the listing:
On Sale Date: May 4, 2027
ISBN 9780316408110, 0316408115
Hardcover Picture Book |
40 pages
$18.99 USD, $23.99 CAD
Juvenile Fiction / Action & Adventure Key Selling points:
THRIVING FANBASE: While Avatar has been off the air since 2008, and Korra since 2014, their fandom has continued to thrive—and GROW! This is in part due to the recent roll out of both series on Netflix. LASTING MEDIA ATTENTION: The shows continue to get lots of love in the media with frequent articles and inclusion in roundups:
Avatar ranked in both Vanity Fair’s and IndieWire’s respective 2018 lists of the best animated TV shows of all time
The final scene of Korra ranked in io9’s 2018 list of the “100 Most Important Pop Culture Moments of the Last 10 Years.”
SOCIAL REACH: The shows have over 6.7M followers across their social channels and almost 800K subscribers on Reddit. Their creators are also avid posters, and they frequently talk about their passion for and continued involvement with the brands. PERFECT TIMING: There will be a new live-action Avatar series likely coming to Netflix in 2022. Also, with 2020 being Avatar’s 15th anniversary and 2022 being Korra’s 10th anniversary, it’s poised to be the “The Decade for Avatar!” PUBLISHING: Avatar has a thriving reader fanbase, too! Dark Horse has been successfully publishing original graphic novels that target teens and adults since 2012 and has no plans to stop—in fact, The Promise, an Avatar graphic novel, recently hit #6 on the NYT list 7 years after its publication! The Kyoshi YA novels, recently published by Abrams, were each instant NYT bestsellers and continue to grab attention. In 2021 the publishing category will continue to expand to include a new Avatar YA series, a new Avatar MG series, and a new three-part Korra graphic novel series. CONSUMER PRODUCTS: Multiple lines of business are planning on ramping up their product, including more presence at mass, expanded collectibles, homeware, and retail initiatives at specialty stores like Box Lunch and FYE. Existing CP includes apparel, a trading card game, video games, LEGO sets, toys and stuffed animals, homewares, additional publishing, and home video that has generated over $18M since 2015 in DVD, Blu-Ray, and Steelbook formats. Avatar is a consistent top 10 item at both Box Lunch and Hot Topic. DUAL APPEAL: With its eye-catching design and original content, we expect these titles to appeal to existing adult fans who want to collect and share with their children while also providing an entry point.
You can find the whole listing on the Edelweiss website.

The garments manufacturing process plays a critical role in delivering quality apparel to retailers and consumers across the United States. For fashion brands, understanding how clothing is designed, constructed, and distributed can make the difference between success and inconsistency. Whether you're a startup or an established label, having insight into this process helps ensure better quality, faster turnaround, and sustainable sourcing.

Step 1: Design & Concept Development
Everything in the apparel manufacturing process begins with a concept. Designers create sketches inspired by trends, functionality, and seasonality. These ideas are translated into technical drawings or digital mock-ups, considering fabric behavior, garment fit, and end-use. U.S.-based design teams often collaborate with sourcing experts to align creative vision with production capabilities.
Step 2: Fabric Sourcing
Once the design is finalized, manufacturers source materials like cotton, denim, synthetics, or performance textiles. In the U.S., many companies prefer local or ethical sourcing partners to reduce lead times and ensure transparency. This stage is crucial in the apparel production process as it directly impacts the cost, quality, and sustainability of the final garment.
Step 3: Sampling & Prototyping
Next, the first samples are produced to check fit, stitching, and fabric behavior. Prototypes allow brands to visualize how the garment will look and feel in real life. This trial phase reduces risk and fine-tunes the product before mass production. U.S.-based manufacturing apparel companies often offer in-house sampling for quicker feedback loops and revisions.
Step 4: Cutting & Stitching
After approval, the garment pieces are cut from fabric rolls using manual or automated cutters. Skilled workers then sew each piece according to specifications. In modern U.S. factories, technology like CAD (computer-aided design) and automated cutters increase precision and minimize waste, streamlining the garment processing stage.
Step 5: Finishing Touches
Post assembly, the garments go through processes like ironing, washing, labeling, and quality enhancements like embroidery or printing. Tags and packaging are also finalized here, adding branding elements and preparing products for shipment. This is where apparel manufacturing is brought to life with branding and attention to detail.
Step 6: Quality Control
No product leaves the factory without going through rigorous quality control in garment manufacturing process checks. U.S. apparel companies emphasize defect prevention, fit accuracy, fabric integrity, and colorfastness. Dedicated QC teams inspect samples from every batch, ensuring the final garments meet brand expectations and safety regulations.
Step 7: Packaging & Shipping
Finally, garments are folded, tagged, and packed for distribution. U.S.-based garment manufacturing companies work closely with logistics partners to ensure fast and secure deliveries across the country and internationally. For wholesale or D2C (Direct-to-Consumer) brands, timely delivery is critical to business success.
Types of Garment Manufacturing Systems
There are different garment manufacturing system models used in the USA. These include:
Make Through System: One operator handles an entire garment, ideal for custom orders or prototypes.
Progressive Bundle System (PBS): Garments move in batches between workers specializing in different operations.
Unit Production System (UPS): Automated systems transport individual garments between workstations for faster assembly.
The chosen system depends on the scale, product type, and flexibility required.
Why U.S. Brands Must Understand the Process
Understanding the garment manufacturing process empowers U.S. fashion businesses to make smarter sourcing decisions, select the right partners, and maintain brand quality. It also helps ensure compliance with labor and environmental laws, especially as consumer demand for transparency and sustainability grows.
Leading American clothing manufacturers like Pearl Global provide full-service solutions, from design to delivery, integrating efficiency and eco-conscious practices at every step. Their expertise helps brands maintain product consistency while scaling with market demand.
Conclusion: Whether you're launching a startup or growing an established label, mastering the garments manufacturing process is crucial. From design to delivery, every stage affects your product's quality, cost, and brand identity. By aligning with reliable partners and understanding the entire garment manufacturing system, U.S. brands can stay competitive and responsible in today’s evolving apparel industry.

Embroidery digitizing
Embroidery digitizing is a transformative process that combines traditional needlework with modern technology. It plays a pivotal role in the textile and apparel industries, allowing intricate designs to be stitched precisely and consistently using computerized embroidery machines. As fashion, branding, and customization demand grow, so does the importance of embroidery digitizing. This article explores what embroidery digitizing is, how it works, the tools involved, common challenges, and the future of this dynamic craft.
What Is Embroidery Digitizing?
Embroidery digitizing is the process of converting artwork into a digital file that can be read and executed by an embroidery machine. This file contains instructions that guide the machine on how to stitch the design—defining elements such as stitch type, direction, density, and thread color.
Unlike simple image conversion, embroidery digitizing is a creative and technical process. A digitizer must understand fabric behavior, stitch types, thread tension, and machine capabilities to produce high-quality embroidery.
The Evolution of Embroidery
From Hand to Machine
Historically, embroidery was entirely manual—a painstaking process requiring years to master. In the 20th century, mechanical embroidery machines were introduced, making mass production possible. Today, with the advent of computer-aided design (CAD) and software, embroidery digitizing has become the standard for commercial and custom embroidery.
Digital Transformation
Embroidery digitizing brought a significant shift. What once took hours or days to embroider by hand can now be done in minutes with precise digital control. It also enabled design scalability and repeatability, which is essential for branding, uniforms, and large-scale apparel production.
How Embroidery Digitizing Works
1. Design Preparation
Before digitizing, the artwork must be prepared. This could be a company logo, graphic, or custom illustration. Common file formats for artwork include JPG, PNG, SVG, or AI files.
The image is analyzed for clarity, detail, and suitability for embroidery. Not all images can be directly translated—complex gradients or ultra-fine details may require simplification or adjustment.
2. Using Digitizing Software
Professional digitizers use specialized software such as:
Wilcom
Embird
Hatch
Brother PE-Design
Sew Art
True Embroidery
These tools allow users to:
Import and resize artwork
Assign stitch types (satin, fill, run, etc.)
Adjust stitch density
Set thread colors
Define stitch angles and entry/exit points
3. Stitch Type Selection
Different parts of a design require different stitch types. For instance:
Satin Stitch: Ideal for borders, text, and smooth shapes.
Fill Stitch (Tatami): Used for covering larger areas.
Run Stitch: Suitable for outlining and fine detail.
The choice of stitch affects the visual texture, stitch time, and how the embroidery holds up on different fabrics.
4. Pathing and Sequencing
Pathing refers to the order and direction in which the machine stitches a design. Good pathing ensures efficiency, prevents thread breaks, and avoids puckering. Poor pathing can lead to misaligned designs, increased production time, and higher thread consumption.
5. Exporting the File
After digitization, the design is exported in a machine-compatible format. Common embroidery file formats include:
.DST (Tajima)
.PES (Brother/Baby lock)
.JEF (Janome)
.EXP (Melco)
.VP3 (Husqvarna/Viking)
These files are then transferred to the embroidery machine via USB, memory card, or direct software integration.
Common Applications of Embroidery Digitizing
Corporate Branding – Logos on uniforms, caps, and accessories
Fashion and Apparel – Decorative embroidery on garments
Sportswear – Team names, numbers, and mascots
Promotional Products – Custom bags, towels, hats
Home Decor – Monogrammed linens, wall art, cushions
Patches – Digitized designs for badges and emblems
Benefits of Embroidery Digitizing
1. Consistency and Precision
Digitizing ensures that every piece looks exactly the same, which is crucial for brand identity and bulk production.
2. Time Efficiency
A properly digitized file allows for fast and accurate stitching, reducing production time compared to manual embroidery.
3. Versatility
Digital files can be edited, resized, and reused, offering more flexibility than traditional methods.
4. High Quality
Modern embroidery machines, guided by digitized files, can produce intricate, professional-quality designs on various fabrics.
Challenges in Embroidery Digitizing
Despite its advantages, digitizing is not without hurdles:
1. Fabric Considerations
Different fabrics behave differently under a needle. Stretchy or thin fabrics like jersey or silk require special digitizing techniques to avoid puckering or distortion.
2. Design Complexity
Highly detailed or shaded designs may not translate well to thread. Digitizers must often simplify artwork without losing visual impact.
3. Thread and Color Management
Matching thread colors to digital artwork is not always straightforward due to color limitations and lighting conditions.
4. Machine Limitations
Each embroidery machine has specific hoop sizes, needle counts, and color change capacities. Digitizers must account for these constraints when creating files.
Digitizing Best Practices
To achieve optimal results, experienced digitizers follow these best practices:
Use High-Resolution Artwork – Clean, crisp images ensure better accuracy.
Understand the End Product – Digitizing for a cap differs from digitizing for a flat t-shirt.
Test Stitch outs – Always run a sample stitch to identify issues before full production.
Use Correct Underlay Stitches – Underlays stabilize the fabric and create a foundation for top stitches.
Mind the Pull Compensation – Adjusting for how fabric stretches or pulls helps maintain design proportions.
Embroidery Digitizing vs. Printing
Though both processes transfer artwork to fabric, embroidery and printing differ significantly:
Feature
Embroidery
Printing
Durability
Long-lasting, wear-resistant
Can fade or crack over time
Texture
Raised, tactile texture
Smooth and flat
Cost for Small Runs
Higher setup cost
More cost-effective
Suitable For
Uniforms, caps, towels
T-shirts, posters, banners
Customization
More complex, limited colors
Easy with full-color capabilities
The Role of AI and Automation in Digitizing
As artificial intelligence advances, the embroidery industry is beginning to see software that can automatically digitize logos and images with minimal human input. While promising, these tools still require oversight, especially for complex or multi-fabric projects.
AI-assisted digitizing is speeding up the onboarding of new digitizers and helping businesses reduce turnaround times. However, expert human input remains irreplaceable for high-stakes or nuanced projects.
Career Opportunities in Embroidery Digitizing
With the expansion of custom apparel, digitizing has emerged as a specialized career. Professionals in this field can work as:
In-house digitizers at print/embroidery shops
Freelancers offering remote digitizing services
Product developers for clothing brands
Educators or software trainers
Digitizing requires both artistic ability and technical know-how, making it ideal for creatives with an interest in digital design.
Getting Started with Embroidery Digitizing
Interested individuals can begin learning digitizing through:
Online Courses (Skillshare, Udemy, YouTube)
Embroidery Forums and Communities (e.g., Stitchboard, DigitizingMadeEasy)
Trial Versions of Software (Many programs offer demos)
Practicing with Embroidery Machines – Even basic home models can import and stitch digitized files.
For beginners, Hatch by Wilcom or Embrilliance Essentials are recommended as user-friendly starting points.
The Future of Embroidery Digitizing
The future is likely to be shaped by:
AI-Powered Software – Further streamlining digitizing processes.
Cloud-Based Platforms – Enabling remote collaboration and instant updates.
3D Embroidery and Mixed Media – Blending embroidery with printing and laser cutting.
Eco-Friendly Threads and Practices – As sustainability becomes a priority, digitizing will evolve to support greener production.
Conclusion
Embroidery digitizing is a fascinating fusion of art and technology. Whether for personal expression, branding, or fashion design, it enables creators to bring embroidered visions to life with accuracy and efficiency. As tools continue to evolve and digitizing becomes more accessible, we can expect this digital craft to remain at the forefront of textile innovation.
