omg Québécoise here: i had the most fun of my life in France - when people would get a little too cocky about my accent, i'd whip out the most flawless international french with stronger structure and vocab and than even the French people themselves and they'd get really quiet when i'd look at them confused by their slang like it made no sense to me. ("Meuf"? Qu'est-ce que ça veut dire? Femme? ah. et bien. Il faudrait parler comme il faut si on veut se faire comprendre :/ )

I only did that with the French and the Swiss french stepping out of line tho. The Belgians never deserved that, and were easy to spot bc they were so cool about it. Most of them anyway!

Also; dying imagining quebecois!reader minding their own business during a SAS/CANSOF-J2 training in the UK and hearing a distant but loud and clear "TABARNAK" from that big, hulking, usually quiet and very Bri'ish Lieutenant in your group. The whiplash would be the funniest thing-

I haven’t been to France yet so I know that’s going to be an experience when I eventually visit.

Omg quebecoise reader speaking perfect English with no accent but the second she finds out her moody, taciturn lieutenant understands French, she’s always chirping at him in French. Soap would whine endlessly about being excluded and wanting in on their private conversations.

Cleaned patterns the senses seek - this is how it will feel - parents’ gone their presence seeping into this felt space - the gaps of experience’s expectation.
