Boy , 3, died after being discovered at a Queens homeless shelter with bruises all over his body and suffering from a collapsed lung - and his father was taken into custody on Wednesday as part of the case, police said.

Little Shaquan Butler was found unconscious at around 7:40 p.m. at the animal shelter at 79-00 Queens Boulevard. Sunday, according to the police. He was taken to NYC Health & Hospital/Elmhurst by paramedics, where he was pronounced dead. Police are searching for the person who killed a 3-year-old child in Elmhurst, Queens. Officers responding to a 911 call found little Shaquan Butler unconscious with bruises all over his body inside a city-run shelter on Sunday. https://t.co/urnpXMIALP — CBS New York (@CBSNewYork) November 16, 2022 The boy's 21-year-old mother told police he fell and hit his head on the kitchen floor after choking on a chicken nugget. But the coroner determined that Shaquan had suffered blunt force trauma to the chest and his death was ruled a manslaughter. Doctors concluded that the bruises on the boy's body were in various stages of healing and would indicate abuse, ABC 7 New York reported. He also had a collapsed lung at the time of his death. Investigators questioned Shaquan's mother and 26-year-old father. The father was arrested on Wednesday, the police said. Neither was charged. Two other children were taken away from their parents by the Child Protection Agency. The shelter where the boy lived with his family is located in the former Pan Am Hotel and is managed by the non-profit organization Samaritan Daytop Village. Read the full article
