laura did not handle losing her alpha status   ....   well.      like at all,   really.      she was born for this,   trained and tutored by her mother who she idolizes as one of the most impressive alphas she’s ever known.     and it was stolen from her,   by a man she trusted,   a man who was her family.     make no mistake,    even though she’s settled in her status now as a beta,   she will never forgive peter for stealing this birthright from her,   and she’ll never let him blame it on just the trauma from the fire.     he’s wanted this for a long time.

LAURA HALE pot-fire sees danger around every corner and in every shadow. by turns she’s overprotective of derek - - almost to the point of being smothering - - and distant with him, harsh because she feels she has to be. the harshness is always in her training. she was trained by her mother, never learned how to train a werewolf younger than herself, particularly not while her mind and heart are in such turmoil (she has trouble with the full shift for a full year or so after the fire, it takes her quite a while to channel her emotions and energy properly. 

she’s inexperienced and young and grieving, full of anger and dismay, desperate to keep her brother safe.

she chose new york city for the distance and the anonymity, she rents their apartment out under an assumed name to make it harder to track them. she’s sure - always - that the argents could be coming for them tomorrow (or the next day or the next day or the next). 

she never was the sort to plan revenge, but that was before the argents killed her family, burned a house of innocents. now she wants to tear them all to pieces, in a way that’s nearly beyond her control. deep and visceral, almost instinctual. in verses where she lives (or returns to life) she still wants to tear them apart, despite any warnings to leave them be, despite any information that they’ve changed. she’s deeply wary of any and all of them, always expecting the worst.

some off-the-cuff L/AURA H/ALE headcanons: 

the queen of bad jokes. bad puns are her favorite. always delivers them totally straight, as if she doesn’t know they’re bad (or even jokes at all) 

nothing bad ever happened to her as a result of being a werewolf up until the fire. 

she has insanely good control and always has, her full shift is a result of that 

loves dark chocolate and can’t stand milk or white chocolate 

doesn’t have much of a sweet tooth at all, really, she prefers bitter or salty tastes 

will basically tear you apart with her teeth if you so much as look at her siblings the wrong way (she’s the only one who’s ever allowed to be mean to them, thanks very much) 

isn’t actually usually mean to her siblings, but she is v. sarcastic and loves to tease them. is also insanely protective, particularly of cora. 

does not have a heck of a lot of patience tbh

was on the girls’ soccer team in highschool

before the fire she was very impulsive, quick both to anger and to laugh, and very playful though she took her training more seriously than she took just about anything else 

very close to her mother, driving force was always making talia proud

after the fire? had a lot of issues with trust and paranoia, isolated herself and derek in new york to the extent of her ability, very much went into lock-down mode. could be a little harsh, her temper got a bit quicker, knew she had to step up derek’s training and do it all alone, and it was probably...a little too intense tbh
